Omg he’s the smartest person I’ve seen interviewed yet! Even if he did have anything negative to say about him he’s not going to say it. He knows the guy is still out there. Duh
I completely agree. I thought he was intelligent and well spoken. Most of the time interviews with locals are Not very bright, and don't even have anything good to say. They just want to get on camera.
He said the family were good people and that the negative comments were not true. Facts, maybe the family are just good people and, as the family said (and the committment over summer implies), the military guy had developed psychosis.
Just because the guy is a Vet does not make him Rambo! So please, do not use veterans as crazies. He might be sick mentally, but it's not just because he's a veteran. There's thousands of veterans and none are shooting up people. Being a veteran does not make you a marksman or Rambo.
I agree, he had never even seen combat or experienced the horrors that TRUE veterans have experienced. He was a reservist and firearms instructor. They're definitely using that as an excuse. Sure he may be suffering from SOME sort of PTSD, as there are many causes for it. But IF he suffers from it, it DEFINITELY isn't because of combat. People suffering from PTSD don't typically target other people and leave suicide notes. My best friend suffered PTSD from actual combat from 14 years spent overseas in the Army Rangers. I've seen PTSD firsthand, and what that guy did has nothing to do with PTSD. That's just an excuse to make him seem sympathetic.
He’s not a veteran! Never served active duty, being in the reserves or national guard does not make you a veteran unless you were called to active duty .
Not really. I had a cousin who was sycophantic. He heard people who weren't there. I lived in Florida at the time. He was placed in a mental facility. For a long time. Where he was safe and so was the public. For the most part he was harmless. But after Florida closed all these facility's. He was put out to fend on his own. To become a police responsibility. I was young at the time. One night he showed up at my house.with a 44 magnum. That he had stolen from someone. I had a young wife and a two year old son. Scared the crap out of me. Was able to get him to give me the gun. Thank God. He was safer though he didn't like it being in a mental facility. And so was the public. This is a social problem. It needs to be addressed. Our mental health system is non existent. Honestly. Unfortunately I don't see it getting any better.
@Angela-G my cousin had a long history. I know. This person didn't. My concern was. Any really or honest help. Has been sweep under the rug. Let the justice system deal with it. This doesn't have to be a thing patrolman have to deal with. Their jobs are hard enough. My cousin was a confused individual. Who anyone in their right mind could see. I'm glad I was able to defuse the situation I was confronted with. I'm over sixty now. As far as mental health system goes it's not gotten any better. The man who has committed this crime in some small part all of are inattentiveness. We weren't listening. Or didn't care
This is very hateful statement. I also heard the term sleeper cell.Imagine I live in a area where all are w-it- and you are scaring me that they may k-ll me because one of themcoul dbe a sleeper cell? This will divide our society
Yes it can happen anywhere but there are a lot of places that have very low crime rates and never have violence like this in their community. I live in a close knit farming town and would be shocked if something ever happened here. In 10 years of being here there has never been anyone die from violence. Home break ins are pretty much unheard of. The only reason we ever hear about the town in the news is due to fatal car accidents. Now where I grew up 35-40 minutes from here is a whole other story. It was a nice town when I was young but now a shit hole. Shootings, stabbings, robbery, drugs, etc. Along with the neighboring towns. No one is surprised when anything in that area happens. Can it happen in my town, of course it can but is it normal here no. In areas where there is not normally violent crime people are shocked because stuff like that doesn't happen there. You are more likely to hear about a farming accident and a cow killing someone or an off road vehicle like a dirt bike injury then you would ever hear something like this. We must always stay vigilant everywhere but there are places where it is safer to live or people are surprised when things like this happen.
@@rogerrabbitog683 Oh the Chicago reference. Tell me would you have said that to any poster, or was it because her profile picture looks to be of a black woman so you wanted to say that out of spite??? hahaha seriously man, instead of having an intelligent discussion your answer was "Especially Chicago".
The title is enough drama for the whole interview tbh the question he ask was was weird but the guy had probably the best answer other than being rude to comahead I mean all the good stuff he said about them and then he's going to turn around say yeah everything I saw him I shit myself
His neighbor has to consider himself so lucky. Living next to a ticking time bomb. Prayers to the victims families. I know this isn't enough. Unfortunately
I'm so thankful I left America for good on Monday. This reporting is nice and all but the issue is repetitive. People move past it and it happens again and again. I have no interest in having a child and having them do shooting drills or explaining to them the other atrocities that exist in the US. Most people who think America is the greatest nation haven't lived in many other places. I've lived in 6 countries and America is by far the worst from violence to racism to government corruption. This shooting is just another reason why I'm thrilled to no longer call the US home.
Traveling abroad has showed me that they are much safer places in the world than America. Of course they are things I like about this country but the gun violence is becoming a problem. I saw a guy get blasted in the head in my neighborhood which was terribly traumatizing, I have almost lost a loved in a mass shooting it's just too much.
@@signoracarter7024 I am very sorry about your experiences for sure. The US is not what it used to be years ago. However, I noticed you still didnt share what better country you have moved to. How come ?
The dude is still out there. The neighbor isn’t dumb to start say his neighbor was a nut job while he’s still hiding from everyone with an assault rifle. 🤦🏻♀️
Just a minute. The Maine police were involved in suspects threats he made, he was hearing voices , he was hospitalized for mental issues, he had firearms and the VA hospital did what for the veteran suspect? The family warned the police. It appears the government had an agenda of some sort as there were many serious RED Flags on the suspect. So sorry for the veteran and his victims. Government, you didn't give this veteran the help he needed.
The police would be at my front door with a warrant if I made threats, was confined to a mental hospital , hearing voices , and had firearms, taking medications . Different State. I know.
Suppose they did help the guy but he refused to accept he was schizophrenic and refused meds??? Don’t blame wrong people! This guy knew he was sick and was angry about it and in denial! Blaming others!
The neighbor may have not seen any warning signs however the family must have. 2 weeks is never long enough to be on a psych hold. These hospitals push patients out way too soon and follow up care is practically non existent.
2 weeks is longer than most people get. Most get a 72 hour evaluation and are released. They cant hold people in mental hospitals for long periods of time especially against their will. But mainly due to costs and insurance companies being willing to pay. You have to be an imminent risk of danger to yourself or others to be held in those facilities. Which clearly he was but he obviously wasnt saying he was going to do this .
@@JenessaAndKingstonRight ! Most folks don’t get a day! And while they love attacking the VA, guess what party in Congress loves voting against benefits for veterans…
Dude spent not time in combat. He was never deployed. JMilitary just taking anybody. He should of been in the psych ward not the military. Can't blame this on PTSD.
I think in our culture people have become individuals and they are not connected enough to feel that loneliness causes anger, our kids do not have anybody to go to, Teachers are busy, grandparents are busy and only TV or friends are left, they have nobody to sit and laugh and cry and spit out their problems. We are too busy and then it is too late
That is very thoughtful. One thing is, if you don't get Schizophrenia treated early in the disease, you may never get good control over the symptoms. Get the person in and checked out carefully early on.
Where was this concern when Jordan Neely a young black man, was murdered on the train in New York by a white marine. He had no weapon just begging for food. Yet white people said the white man was a hero because Jordan Neely was homeless and slept in the streets. Now white people are concerned about this terrorist. The hypocrisy is real and off the chain
The guy's probably schizophrenic. He could even have a brain tumor. One of the first mass shootings, years ago (Charles Whitman), was a guy with a brain tumor. Who knows? There was something wrong with the guy, obviously. He was hearing voices and in a mental hospital a few months ago. And everybody in the country has an AR15 so what else is new?
accurate…not a Veteran. His Twiiter/facebook was full of the usual hate propaganda, reposting the same hateful people, that’s what it is.,,this isolated online culture of hate and propaganda. Probably an inferiority complex of not being a soldier. He spent his time shooting guns and getting his mind hyped up on hate.
@@Rowganlife It’s not well at least that I know of people want those black thumbs up. He was a reserve who I’m pretty sure was never deployed into combat I had a person literally berate me for debunking his obvious biased for Military Personnel.
I saw another neighbor interviewed who said the exact opposite: that the entire family were "gun nuts" who shot their weapons every day and that people tried to avoid confronting them because they intimidated everyone. That neighbor even suggested that they were "militia members." But that may apply to many locals.
The family has been trying for months to get the military to help him. They called multiple times asking why he was let out in his condition. He was showing signs of schizophrenia. @@Paul1958R
@Letsbelieveanything putting others down will never lift you up. There's no reason to detract from this man or put his community down. Soften yourself to others, friend.

He isn't a combat vet, so just stop with that. Only PTSD he has is from training in the cold weather. He is at the age of being schizophrenic, and he targeted ppl that he thought might have messed his personal life up with his ex girlfriend, he went only targeting men, that speaks volumes. Plus it was on a kids night and no kids were hurt, so he had a specific idea of what he was looking for, i wish they would interview his ex girlfriend that worked there, or hung out there
He was never in combat. There's no need to allow speculation that he was - especially if a reporter has been told information to the contrary. Read how many in the comments now assume he was in combat...it's absurd. BTW, combat isn't the only way to suffer PTSD.
How about you tell us all how this could have been prevented without breaking laws like kidnapping and imprisoning this guy??? Let’s go! Give it your best mouth!
Why we pretending as if this not about to happen tomorrow and the day after that ..and next year like this get exhausting to have to keep hearing ..prayers to the family and friends and everyone reading this ❤️
What that guy said about his neighbor is true there’s not enough mental help for the military also for the Public just take a look around all our cities and you’ll see mentally ill people roaming the streets there’s no help for them just look up Philadelphia on the street of Kensington you’ll be shocked
Not sure why Chris Cuomo is covering a situation surrounding violence. There are plenty of videos out there demonstrating Chris” unacceptable, immature and violent behavior.
Cuomo is a terrible interviewer. We never heard: how did you know the guy, what did you see him doing on a day to day basis, what conversations have you had with him in the past, what interactions have you had with his family.....Instead he just asks some random guy opinions on stuff he can't give an opinion on.
This is the problem when vets don’t get the help they need. 😢 Va hospital has a lot to do with it they prescribed medication after medication. They don’t care, my brother came back from Afganistán 🇦🇫 and he was never thesame. Va hospital prescribed 28 different medications for him to take. Is sad for the victims and this guy. Ptsd is real.
Veterans have to want help, they have to want to stay in treatment and advocate for themselves. There’s no magic recipe, there’s no cure for Schizophrenia or schizo-affective disorders. He couldn’t be held against his will or hospitalized indefinitely. This isn’t the VA Hospital’s fault. I’m a veteran and my dad is too. I’ve become my own best advocate and also for my dad. Without that it’s the same as any other person. The VA doesn’t have the jurisdiction to go door to door looking for veterans to treat.
This was exactly like he would have reported it at CNN. WTF are you talking about? Did you ever see any of is interviews at CNN? They were just like this - and nothing was wrong with them. LOL. Some of you do not have a clue.
It’s frustrating that people just want to complain and come after the gun issue when this happens, but it’s the lack of mental health resources that’s the real problem. And I’m not just talking about “oh you’re depressed, go see a doctor and get some pills”. No. When you’re as mentally gone as this guy is, and you’re making substantial threats, there needs to be a long psychiatric stay so they can regulate you on medication. Mental illness is complicated and not one size fits all. Usually with psychosis, there’s cocktails of medications that can take months before doctors know if it’s the right fit. But now, instead of keeping the person hospitalized, they tell them to go home and take their meds and report back. Obviously this isn’t working, especially where most mentally ill at a severe stage, will not be consistent with their medication. We need state run psychiatric hospitals again, except with better standards and state inspections to insure there’s no abuse.. which is the reason they all got shut down in the first place.
The decline in federal spending on mental illness after Reagan signed the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act plays a big part in this, but no one really talks about it anymore.....
no it would not make a difference. they would just use another means to do what they want. California has some of the strictest gun laws in the nation, yet they one of the highest crime rate.@@Phil-tl8vp
You NEVER know who your neighbors are. I lived next door to a family on the lamb and their names weren't even the names we called them. They moved and the FBI showed up at my door . Crazy
Kind of wonder why this man admit himself needing help... And then release him back into public hearing voices.. And then this happens Wow ! Sad day for everyone and all those families involve...
@@bigpicturethinking5620 how did he skip all thoes tours though! He joined in 2002 same time as me, I deployed 6 times... how is he just leaving with no tours?
It does happen here in America because politicians are paid off to never pass harder gun laws. It will never change, sorry to say. What would you do... you get a bag with $100k cash to not vote for certain gun laws. Your wife wants a new car, and your mistress wants a new condo. It does happen here
55,000 dollars is spent on 3 months of basic training for a soldier. 8,300 dollars is spent on one year of PTSD treatment for that same soldier. Thank you for your service?
One more thing when his family called for help there was nothing but now everyone is wondering -------WHY------ because he is sick his mind is in crisis . His family called for help because the man is sick no one came.
After being in a mental hospital for two weeks...curious what kind of mind altering drugs they had the suspect on? Isn't it true that all mass shooters have been on some type of anti depressant or other meds for mental issues?
@@jim-se5xcLmfao, you really have one of those, “can’t think logically” type brains, huh? Hospitalization and psych meds for 2 weeks and there you go , back out to society. Many we'll meaning mental health facilities prescribe medications for people suffering from mental illnesses. However they usually don't do brain scans or analysis the majority of the time, because it's expensive. Im not excusing what this man did, it's horrific. However improper diagnosis and treatment with psych meds wich always have the potential to exacerbate a chemical imbalance in the brain have to be considered as a result. Throwing pills at the problem is part of the problem. My condolences to all of the families and everyone affected by this awful situation.
It’s so sad these veterans don’t get the help they need.Ive met a few Veterans that have lost legs in the military and are homeless riding on wheelchairs with no tire only rim.Our country should take care of those who have fought for our country risking their lives.🤔
They all refuse meds and help like anyone else whose nuts in society and you can’t help the unwilling!!! You can’t kidnap and lock them up either by law! Duh 🙄
I understand this man's reaction to this tragedy, but it is high time we stop saying as Americans that this "doesn't happen here" after it just happened.
The usual banter happens after the mass shooting of innocent people. - - the Govener of the state giving speech, the police chief promising safety and to catch the culprit, - candle-light March, - the psycho-analysts getting their 'glory moments' on television, - the politicians condeming the 'brutal' act; this same drama is repeated over and over again; but nobody and especially the American law-makers do anything to impose "COMPLETE BAN" on guns of all description. Lawmakers are thoroughly dishonest about this national problem. Vivek
Not sure why Chris Cuomo is covering a situation surrounding violence. There are plenty of videos out there demonstrating Chris” unacceptable, immature and violent behavior.
This was another failure of the VA and our mental healthcare system. A dear friend of mine, a veteran who did three tours right after 9/11 - the SSRI’s they put him on made his issues even worse and added new problems. After continuous grievances and notes put into his psych - He turned the gun on himself. His presence is missed daily, but I’ve always counted our lucky stars that if his pain and confusion needed to yield, I’m glad it ended like that - than like this. *Much love to our veterans.* I’m so sorry our government continues to fail you after the incredible magnitude of efforts you put out and the unspeakable tragedy you are forced to take in. May the gods watch over us all and assess fairly when the day of judgement arrives. - To my dear friend Carlos, along with all of the souls caught in the crosshairs of this tragedy, peace unto you and journey well ♥️
They can tell him he has TBI from loud guns or schizophrenia but if he refuses to take the meds nobody can help him! People have to want help! Just like any addict too! Duh 🙄 there’s no blaming the VA or the Doctors! He likely refused meds and the terrible diagnosis of schizophrenic with the hearing voices and psychotic thoughts symptoms! Nobody wants that stigma!
There are times that it’s the individual who doesn’t want to receive the help even if the help is offered. The person may complain about the VA or the care that they perceive is not available but that would be false. Many times it is the individual who cannot accept the fact that they actually need care. A warrior without a war is idle with their thoughts. Rest in peace Carlos.
Well if he was in a psychiatric hospital not long ago, I’m pretty sure he was on something. Maybe something that was helping him and then he thought he got better and stopped taking them and went off that deep end. That’s the usual story with something horrible happening. That the person stopped taking the medication.
