Great video man! The road leading into our camp in Jackman Maine that my parents use to own was discontinued and un-maintained. We didn’t always have it in the budget to keep up the road so some years the road got beat up pretty good from water and frost heaving, it naturally kept people away lol. Miss those days and would love to live back on an un-maintained road again.

Thanks!👍 Being on an unmaintained road does keep the visitors away! We do what we can when we can.

Nice work Jason! I lived on an unmaintained dirt road all my childhood and still remember going out and mending our part of it. Hated it as a kid, miss it as I age and look forward to doing it in the future!

I can very much relate to this video. With 3 backhoe in here, a gravel pit, 5 houses = 5 weed hackers and 8 people, im the one (without a backhoe) who maintains 80% of over a mile long road with loppers, a shovel a wheelbarrow and a lawn mower. Aggravating when they will hug one side of the road because branches are encroaching their driving lane but wont take 2 seconds to cut the limbs.

I had a brainstorm, on that road near the culvert, if you could get the barriers to stop cars from driving down a road that could be out near the culvert. I’ll try and attach a pic. My second thought was, if you saw a baseball game and saw the device they have on the back of a tractor to grate the infield, looks like a piece of chain link, that would grate the road well and easy for you.
@HanbleceyaRanch
@HanbleceyaRanch Месяц назад
I’ve thought about putting a barrier up…it would do the trick for sure. A neighbor of ours built something similar to what you’re referring to. We’ll see how that goes. 😊

Good video. Off Grid is not all glamor. Requires yearly maintenance. Our road is also not maintained, other than us.

We’ve been on our land in Maine 3 weeks tomorrow… house frame starting to go up already! The unmaintained road is one of the things that made me hesitate as it’s a mile long and about 6 families in theory are supposed to maintain it. So far it’s really fallen to just one family. So we will definitely be pitching in.

Welcome to Maine!! 👋 The unmaintained road is a job! It is helpful when everyone pitches in to maintain it. Good luck with the house! 👍

@@HanbleceyaRanch thanks. it’s been so crazy because husband and our livestock have been up here since May but I’ve been finishing my teaching year and selling our MA house… so it’s crazy. I have no idea where any of our stuff is. We are sleeping in a camper and I’m trying to find a teaching job up here. But we are together. We are finally here.

We’ve homesteaded on our almost acre in MA for over 30 years so at least I come Up here with lots of Skills. But as you know there is still learning curve. Your channel really helped when all last winter and spring we weren’t sure if this whole thing was going to happen or fall thru. So thank you and Jen for reducing stress and distracting me lol.

So happy we could help with the stress and distractions!!🤣 We are so happy your journey here in Maine has finally begun. As you know…now is when the fun begins (and the hard work!!)♥️

Do you harrow your gravel roads? I've seen several videos some farmers would take a rake or harrow to their gravel roads, to "freshen" up the gravel and cutting down weeds. I'm sure you do mow the shoulders once or twice a year?
@HanbleceyaRanch
@HanbleceyaRanch Месяц назад
Our neighbor has a rake that he uses. We used a box blade we borrowed earlier this year for a bad spot we had. We do cut down the shoulders by us and the neighbors do by their places.

how did Jen make the zucchini chips
@HanbleceyaRanch
@HanbleceyaRanch Месяц назад
Hi Sherry!! I thin sliced the zucchini. Layed the slices on a paper towel and covered them with another paper towel. Press down on them to try and get as much moisture out. Lay them single layer on parchment paper on cookie sheet. Brush lightly with olive oil. Add salt or any other seasonings you want. Bake in oven at 235° F for 1 1/2-2 hrs. Lay them on paper towel to absorb any excess oil and enjoy. 😊
