I started using vibram’s toe shoes for walking, running and then hiking. My feet and my toes have never felt so strong and the progress was super quick.

I switched to minimalist shoes almost two years ago. But I know I have a long way to go in revitalizing my feet, and so this video (and being introduced to the idea of toe yoga) is very much appreciated.

Been running in minimalist shoes for a couple years now and love it. I don't think most people have any idea how many modern day technologies we use on a daily basis dumb down and weaken our bodies.

I dont think you have realised our society has evolved too. You wouldnt see people barefoot on asphalt, concrete or what bacterias do to your barefoot walking anywhere right? If you are unsure go seek a podiatrist who is objective when it comes to traditional shoes vs barefoot shoes. If barefoot shoes is the king poop then how come you dont see this in ultra marathon elite runners? There’s a reason why! If it works for you then good but it will not work for every single human on this planet.

Paleontologists of the future, upon discovering the school desk that I grew up with (not sure if still in existence today), will think it some kind of torture device.

Growing up in Hawaii we only wore shoes during school or work. Other than that we’re barefoot or slippers (flip flops). Walking on the beach helps too

I've always been one who likes to go barefoot. I don't wear barefoot shoes. I simply don't wear shoes at all, when possible. If I must, I'll tend to wear sandals that let my toes move freely. I've also been doing this toe yoga for the past year.

Besides making feet stronger and connecting you to the ground, are there any other measurable results among a wide population? Like better runners, more athletic, less injuries, better climbers, stronger lifters? Any evidence that’s not just anecdotal?

We look at the horrific results of foot binding that took place in China as horrific yet when most people take their shoes off, their feet are also deformed, albeit not so extremely, yet people think nothing of it. Most shoes, even ones meant to offer 'relief,' constrict the toes or have so much foam beneath the foot that it literally disconnects us from the ground beneath the feet. Minimalist footwear is the way.

Doing ballet barefoot will make you super aware of your feet and toes :-)

I’ve never done foot yoga, but after replacing my entire shoe collection for minimalist shoes in 2016, I tried the exercise/test Beth described. To my utter surprise, I was able to quite easily move big toe & lateral toes independently on my left foot, and laterally with my right but not the big toe. I take from this that switching to minimalist shoes has improved my foot health, plus my knees and back don’t hurt anymore. FYI, I’m wearing shoes from ZAQQ and the early Joe Nimble collection (pre-2018) from Baer Shoes (both from Germany), and the latter used to be the world’s best minimalist shoe in the sense that you could wear their shoes to formal occasions (weddings/work) and their casual shoes looked as expensive as their price tag. Unfortunately Baer made a huge strategic shift with Joe Nimble from high-quality designer minimalist shoes to cheap shoes made from the same template in different colours/textures. I can’t stand Joe Nimble’s new shoes feel and look cheap and nasty not at all matching their premium price tag. They’re even worse than Vivobarefoot, which are pretty bad. If any one knows of any high-end minimalist shoes then please let me know.

Dr Attia is a big fan of Xero. My wife got a pair and shoes is a convert. I’m considering getting their cross training shoe too.

I've had Vibram Minimus shoes for several years. They're good, but squeeze my toes together more than I'd like. Just got Xero running shoes last week and they're the shoe I've been looking for. More room in the toe box and no slipping in the heel. They're pricey, but I'm very happy with them.

@@DrewPeabawlsdid you ever try the cross training shoe? I’m having big toe trouble and going to look into this more. I love my HIIT and weight training exercises but I’m afraid to not address it sooner than later.

@@lorineely6921 yes I did and would recommend them. I think they are called 360 or something
