Another thing to mention about end caps, jump rings and even the clasp itself is wear. I worked in a repair shop and I would see plenty of people’s chains have worn down components that get worn very thin and run the risk of breaking. Same goes for bails on pendants, I’ve seen people lose (and luckily later find) sentimental pendants due to wear overtime.

Get an ultrasonic cleaner! Got mine for $70 CAD from Amazon a few years ago and WOW! I had just been using Dawn dishsoap and hot water in my hands before that. Using Dawn dishsoap, hot water and the Ultrasonic was eye-opening. The first time I used it, I cleaned all our jewelry and you could literally see the crud rise up off the jewelry when the machine turned on. It literally ran for about 60 seconds and it removed all of the grunge.

Getting a small ultrasonic machine is the best and easiest way to clean jewelry in precious metals and/or with precious stones.

That's why I hate lobster clasps! They will only last so long! The S clasp is much better, more secure but usually you only get that with 22k or 24k gold.
