I liked that Vera's to do list was mainly in English 👍 You have more lubricants in stock than we ever had at my late fathers car repair workshop !!! Our supplier was only two minutes away though ....😉
I normally walk the dogs first thing every morning - but on Sundays they now have to sit and wait until I have watched you video. Amazing how a D3 (or any LR) can be the gift that keeps on giving RU-vid content.
As a lover of Landrovers, having owned defenders and Discovery's, I'm glad I came across this channel. Got a lot to watch and catch up on and oh to have a car lift on the drive,
Another great video Christian and Vera. Remember Christian...''A happy wife is a happy life''. I loved when you said ''Robin can fix it with a hammer''. Thank you for sharing.
ITS LR TIME😊😊😊 great episode guys.i really look forward to your videos every sunday.good to see all lubricants are debri free.looking forward to next weeks episode 😊 till then have a good week😊😊😊
Another great video and fixes. I can normally gauge the severity of the videos fixes by how many times Vera says shit. Enjoy the rest of the weekend, everyone. Ps what's wrong with UK English 🇬🇧
Christian, I'd call that a confidence boosting result with the engine having no "metal chips" in the lubrication system. It's easy to see how one of these could bankrupt someone who cannot work on the vehicle themselves, so many little fiddly glitches could cost a fortune to get fixed at a dealership.
I love watching these two. Great onscreen rapport. And better grasp of the English language than most English people! Amazing channel. Keep it up. A thousand thank yous. Very clever and skilled people. ❤
@@Vera_and_Christian brilliant! You'll have to do some videos on them! Maybe not as troublesome as the landrovers though. So wouldn't be as much content! Thanks again. Great channel. 👍 🙂🙂
Great episode. Looking forward to seeing the 4WD screen in action. Well done for getting through so many of the things on the (Vera's!) To Do list. Congratulations re: the lack of debris in the oil pan etc
Oh you guy’s are truly amazing. Vera and Christian worthy of a BAFTA or Golden Globe. Let’s go the whole hog and make it an Oscar! Essential viewing as we celebrate the first day of Advent. Everything full of promise.😵💫😵💫😵💫
Were there Hybrids amongst those burning Land Rovers? Don't think I would be rushing out to buy any full electric or hybrid car just yet. Congratulations on a successful rebuild.
Yeah that is very unfortunate. The oilpump on early Discovery 3 are know to fail. We cannot stress enough that every owner has it checked and replaced if not upgraded yet. 🙋♀️
I find it quite strange that I watch your videos!. Oh . . . I have an LR3 so there is that! But I know NOTHING about auto mechanics, I have no garage, very few tools, and a huge fear of screwing things up!! But I absolutely love your all's humor and interaction and every so often I actually learn something that I feel like maybe I can use.!! Hahaha!
Very impressive I own a Toyota Landcuiser But that is one landrover I would like to own After you done all that work Well done and thank you for showing how it all should be done
You should find that with the next oil change it ought to come out a lot lighter if the rings are sealing well. I had a 170k mile TD5 that would blacken its oil instantly after a change until i wiped out the black goo from the sump when i happened to have removed it. For the next 30/40k miles the oil would come out as clean as a petrol engine. It was the black goo that was staining it rather than any recent engine blow by.
Good job guys! You know the language used for instructions from chinese stuff written in english is chinglish. Always fun to read. By the way wheel spacers are illegal in Australia but bull bars and winches sticking out are all good.
Great content this week it addressed a few issues I have so I check them out the days... what I really like is that possibility to play your music via bluetooth I'm going to have to check that out too!
I put a D4 nav display in my 2006 D3. Love the updated look of it and all it requires to work is power and MOST. If you want nav to work, then you also need vehicle speed (one wire). The only annoying thing is the display backlight is always on full, it ignores any input from the D3 system. There was some sorta chance. But I simply made a independent device with an Arduino that regulates it beautifully.
Oh my god! Look at the state of the leather gearshift surround gaitor! All that work and Vera has to change gears with such a worn and scruffy looking gaitor! No wonder the propshaft is knackered - it's probably all the bits of leather falling on it! Christian - you can make a new one from a pair of your old Lederhosen
Exellent C+V, the best about having a Land-Rover and a RU-vid channel is that you never run out off content, that why Toyota drivers becomes coffee channel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
G’day Christian, with the coolant hose leak, have you ever considered investing in an Aussie product called Engine Guard. Would make sure you have warning if ever a hose or any coolant leaks occur. Thanks once again for your entertaining and informative video 👍🇦🇺
I must say I do love watching your videos but they make me so pleased that I own a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4ltr compared to your Discos everything is so simple.
Need to 3d print a nice case to fit that DAB thing so it looks better. I suggest place it where the ashtray is. Ive done that with a similar thing (police controll & radar warning screen)
With iid you can add 4*4 info without removing wire. there are little problem with rang rover mode the clock and data can't adjust good ....... very nice job
So good seeing the finishing touches, but but would love to see a New Gator on the gear lever😂, maybe Vera could make one in leather 😊 have a great weekend and week guys, see you next week
@@Vera_and_Christian 24 hrs ! But you are probably sleeping for 8 hrs, maybe just maybe you need to cut the sleep out 😜😂 so look forward to your videos ,on a serious note I hope you are having a good break for the Christmas holidays? Very important family time. Stay safe
I’m doing a satnav upgrade in mine, I have made a 3D Printed bezel adapter so I can fit a 7in android wireless car play in place of the day nav as the maps are too out of date now. This uses the aux wire and also takes a usb input which I routed to one of the charger holes which so you can be wired or wireless. I’m posting it on the Disco 3 forums.
just love your content guys have to go and mod my screen to RR spec now! oh and you have corrupted my mind now every time open my bonnet and see the oil filler cap i hear christian say 5 W DumAss :)
Well done guys really didn’t think there would be any chips 🤠, gawd changing head unit back I wish my D3 had the unit my is only an se so I had to go with the Chinese one 🤯 keep up your great work cheers
Hi Cristian, I did that exact mod to the Nav screen a few years ago with the switch to go in and out of RE mode. The only problem was the brightness of screen reduces after a short I’m so is no good during the day. I did a resister mod to the screen and switched on and off with the lights, now all is perfect.
I have had it now installed a couple of weeks and been on a couple of longer trips, day and night driving also in terrible weather conditions and I don't have any issue with the brightness for some reason. 👍🙋♀️
thanks you two...another great video...USA English..!! OMG, NO.... You drive a Land Rover so you'll be constantly fixing this'n'that...see you next week 🙂
Great content and funny, well done getting the clean oil pan , bit of heat might have helped give everything a test when you where being very vigilant on the first trip better to find out when you a watching everything rather than later. Is oil in short supply over there or are you planning on starting a auto supply chain 😅😅. Looking forward to next week's German bloke gets a list of stuff to fix 😂🇦🇺.
Glad to see that it was nothing major after the Alps trip. I also want to install the OEM screen so it was useful seeing that too. Centre bearing prop shaft will have the keyboard warriors screaming but I changed one in the D3 and also the Range Rover and providing the ends of the shaft are in good order why wouldn't you extend the life this way? The D3 looks and sounds great so long may it continue. I was reading earlier that the D3 has broken Ryan in Australia and he's got himself a Toyota 😮 maybe you need to move there and help him out 😅👍we can't lose him to the Dark side 😂 see you next week.
Wonderfully hilarious content again and how easy was the flip from Discovery to Range Rover? Love the content guys. American or British language. Its all good with this old Brit.
@@Vera_and_Christian Yes I agree. I was thinking along the lines of monitoring the oil over an extended period to see if any increased wear indicators. But given the nature of the failures in these engines (sudden/catastrophic) maybe not?
@@russhumphreys8109 Frequent oil changes are the key to reduced wear on the engine, in our humble opinion. Even a10000 km oilchange interval is too long. No more than 8000km. That way you can reduce the dilution of oil with diesel and keep the lubrication properties intact. A viewer recently send us his oil analysis, after according to him an 10000km oilchange, and the lab recommended him to do as frequent as 4000 km oilchanges, but he was still on 5W30 and not 5W40, what we recommend. The oil did not have the lubrication properties needed anymore. The money is best invested in frequent oil changes. 👍🙋♀
@@Vera_and_Christian 400km😲 I'm with you on this. Oil is cheap! I actually use 5w40 but not the actual spec. recommended by the manufacturer. The recommendation is low SAPS to protect the DPF. But at the expense of reduced engine protection!
Hi Christian and Vera, I’ve been watching your videos for the past 3 maybe 4 years and I’ve never thought to ask you this question, where do you source your parts from, online or from your local reputable motor factors? I’m in Ireland by the way. Love the videos and get a great laugh from them. I’m also a Qualified BMW technician, you can feel free to ask me questions too. I’ve also bought a Discovery 3 recently. My father had 2 and loved them and so did I so I had to have one of my own. Kind Regards, Ryan.
Always online. For the engine rebuild, Christian spent endless hours researching online. Always search for the part number, using the AdvancedFactors website, for example. Then then buy there or search with that part number online. We buy mostly in German online auto stores, and most often at an online Land Rover store.👍🙋♀️
Another great video, thanks guys, there is never going to be a shortage of content is there!?! Your friend brought an Ineos Grenadier a while ago, you were going to do a follow up, is there any news on that?
We barely can manage our own workload at the moments. It is very difficult to meet and create good content with other people and their cars. No matter how cool the car is. 👍🙋♀️
Unbelievable we had a walnut tree on the farm i grew up on every year. we picked them up by hand and stored them until my mother was ready for us kids to crack them open, i do miss that simple way of life 😢, I've also added Bluetooth to my lr3 that i can use from my cell phone , i usually listen to music from RU-vid makes it nice to pick what you want to listen to sense a lot of today music not for me i miss the 80's way of life & being young once in a lifetime. When i did a brake job and ebrake shoes, it's always the little details that get overlooked . When i couldn't figure out why the hole in rotor wouldn't line up to adjust ebrake duh i had to lift other side so im able to turn hub after throwing a tool two screaming mary jane i finally figure out both sides needed to be off ground 🤯 it's the little details that some you tuber leave out is the most important piece 😊
@@Vera_and_Christian bummer. I had the most difficulty trying to figure out the type of conversion cable. Finally found out what he was saying is “fakra “ cable…
Congrats on the clear oil! You had me worried with the talk of pushing the Disco off a cliff in your previous episode. What's the story with the freelander I spotted tucked away?
What coolant is that ? Is it ready to use "no water to be added" . That oil here in South Africa is extremely expensive . I shall faint if I have to buy that engine oil for my cars. Keep well .
Love watching your videos. It's quite relaxing! I'm a DIYer and would like to know how many litres is your air compressor and how many hp does it have please? I just need one to use air tools. Thank you very much Much love from Srilanka!!
Hi there thank you for these wonderful and helpful videos. Can I ask, if you were buying discovery 3/4 with your own money across all years, which year/mileage would you go for, all other factors being equalled. Sorry if this has been asked before and thank you from UK, we really love these cars after test drive and would like to minimise the risks….!!!
An answer like that is too complex. Watch more of our videos, we work on all sort of Discoverys. But basically, either you can fix it yourself or have the spare money to have it fixed. Otherwise don't buy one. Watch our videos and expect any of these problems. We have our Patreon channel for more indepth information. We just get too many questions like yours. 👌👍🙋♀️
