Indeed, very nice series of videos how to full restore a Disco3. The down of views I can think that people prefer to see how to solve a problem they might have. Not necessarily how to disassemble/reassemble a LR (this is more to the niche of enthusiastic). I suppose more people would google „how to change my EGR“ than „how to undercoat a LR body“
To be perfectly honest with you, I would watch your channel whatever you did. A Toyota, an Ineos, a Mitsubishi Pajero Sport would be fantastic. You are both great and put so much work into your channel you deserve at least 1M subs. 👍🇦🇺

It's understandable that there is burnout, not for the viewers, but especially for Christian and Vera. This is a monumental task, and I commend you both for having the cojones to take this on. This is the kind of project many may dream about but few will tackle. That D3 will be mint for a very long time. Heirloom quality, you might say. 😉 A Range Rover would make for an interesting series. The V8 options would be a nice change, although I guess in Germany that may not be so practical. The new Toyotas are cool, but I'm not sure what you would show other than typical bolt-on stuff. I'm sure you would enjoy it and all the coffee, too. 😂 Top job, guys!! Keep it up! 🥰
I knew Land Rover had some old tech but didn’t realize you needed to look like a 19th century coal miner to excel at working on them. Next thing we know Dickens will have written a book about Christian, probably call it “Less Than Great Expectations: It Ain’t a Toyota”.
May I make a suggestion. Try raptor liner on the areas most likely to get rock chipped. Will save the paint work and keep the road noise down aswell. ❤❤ amazing work u guys

I don’t know , almost certain , perhaps other viewers can comment, that Vera’s Landy , is the only one that has undergone , such major “ surgery “ . Such a DIY , such perfection , such detail , by two ordinary people . I say surgery , because the work done is beyond ordinary mechanical repairs , although it is mechanical repairs .
I recently did the same to mine D3 both chassis and body and there are others too. It's really great to know that owners are taking such good care of these great vehicles 😎👍
I did this rustproofing job on my new Ranger a couple of months ago, just like I did with my other Ranger when new in 2014. However I use a heavy duty wax in aerosol form from a company called Bilt Hamber. Did the whole chassis, inside and out plus the external sills and every hole I could find. Also put grommets to blank all holes in the chassis facing the tyres to stop the chassis being filled with corrosive wetness. Oblong holes were taped with Gorilla Tape before the wax was applied and this has proven to be effective and long lasting on my 1998 L Cruiser and 2014 Ranger.
A great job, looks better than new. I’ve owned a couple of Range Rover L322 TDV8’s, not without their problems but equally an amazing car to own, you should definitely get one. Even better, get an early 4.4V8 with the BMW m62 engine and a vanos issue, then you can do videos to show me how to fix mine :)

I love how Christian changed his ethnicity when grinding. Another brilliant video and step closer to completion. The TUV guy is going to be happier. Aluminium foil is excellent at covering wiring and hydraulic cylinders doing welding or restoration work

Great job guys it looks amazing. Christian as you haven't mentioned it, one thing I would advise you to check is to take the worst side of the rust and take off that side front door car diff and check for corrosion on the steel frame of the door at the bottom and latch side and use the Mercedes cavity spray inside the door. I think there will be plastic plugs like on the body you can use if you decide to spray inside all of the doors if in doubt about any corrosion. The Disco is looking great!

Why didn't l think of that. My lady would kill me, as a lift would cut out our perfect view across the fields. Ah well. Power to you 🎉

Great video! Two things for me to get out of the way quickly, primer: zinc based (Galvafroid) and cavity injection would be Waxoyl. The Mercedes solution is probably the same as Waxoyl. Great job and better than new! omg!

Guys, absolutely love your channel....don`t be too hard on your queen the L405 is a good car....apart from poor lubrication of the turbo bearings.....DO NOT think about buying an Ineos Grenadier.....will be signing up as a patron...keep doing what your doing!
Wire bristle brushes tend to polish the surface (as well as removing rust), I prefer 3M Scorchbrite clean and strip discs for a grinder and Scorchbrite bristle brushes for a drill. Cheap Chinese copies are available from eBay Amazon etc. Fertan (as you used) or Jenolite for conversion of any pitted remaining rust. Overcoat with Jotun Jotamastic 87W (winter grade, useable to -5c) 2 component epoxy. As used on my Volvo rebuilds.
Excellent work, grinding is such a pain and your lift makes it easy compared to doing it 12" from your face! the paint looks awesome, be proud of yourself and celebrate with your favourite drink! For the rust converter a phosphorous acid base or something else? For wrapping of gifts in garbage bags, I have been forbidden from doing that by my wife. So I get my girls to wrap them. I have rust coming through on my Range Rover sills, not looking forward to that job. sorry to hear the numbers of views dropping, watching you guys give me a lot of little tips and tricks and just relaxing entertainment and encouragement.
Another great vid, you’re so fortunate to not have had side steps on your Disco. Mine had steps and the three bracket each side acted as moisture traps and rotted through the metal body, its already a problem area as you say. after new lower sills replaced, painted and new trims installed it now looks great. Side steps are Disco lower body killers. ☠️.
Not wanting to be an armchair mechanic here but I can recommend using a 2k epoxy primer like jotun 90 this is designed for offshore steel protection and brushes or sprays on well. As it's not Uv stable it's good to overcoat it with something like raptor 2k. This would give the best protection in my opinion as the red oxide is not great any more (since there is no lead in there anymore it's just a red primer). But fantastic work. It is really great to see the skill, accuracy and passion you both have.
There is always a better product. But I have to think about the budget and how long it should last... Maybe 10 more years before Germany banns Diesels completely. Christian
This is by far the best RU-vid channel of them all, please please stay with Land Rover, Toyotas are for people who don't want to get their hands dirty and don't have any personality (that applies to both the vehicles and their owners).
I'm in awe of what you achieve at home.... so in awe I'll have another cup of tea and a biscuit and watch you rather than do it myself. And it's "Wellington Boots", "rubber boots" is a term with alternative connotations.
One of the next videos I'm planning is going to be "Why you Shouldn't Buy a Range Rover". With that said, I still think Christian should buy one because I know you can handle the maintenance. I'm interested in knowing more about the composition of your underbody paints. Are they epoxy or oil-based or urethane? Or something else?
Hello Waldo, epoxy based paint is not as easy to get over here. So this is regular fast curing thinner based paint. I use a local brand which is really thick and easy to use. It does not say what it is made of but it cures very well and is impact resistant. The rost converter is FERTAN. That stuff is great and it is easy to remove with water prior paining. Christian
What an amazing job! I do know about that because I did the underbody de-rusting and the whole works too in January by a friend , the only problem was the car was stuck on the lift because he had an old lift but six hours later we managed to get the Disco back down and off by the way the M.O.T here in Wiesbaden was really impressed with the rest process. Having done this same full job on my own D3 I know exactly what you have been through but it is completely satisfying and I really enjoyed doing it and knowing that if will be protected for years to come. I also gave my chassis and underbody a good few coats of additional but sacrificial protection with Lanoguard which i will re apply before each winter👍 Really looking forward to seeing the next step when it all goes back together 😁great job

Looks beautiful. Fantastic insight into how these vehicles age, their vulnerable areas and what to do about it. Finally replaced my beloved LR3 that was written off with a mall crawler. More luxurious but lost some of the practicalities 😢
What an entertaining video. You say you just compile whatever you learned on YT. But you know - that is crystalized intelligence. You gained intuitive knowledge that allows you to find solutions in known areas. You just look at the maze and the solution lightens up like a neon line. It is actually incredible how deep your knowledge of LRDs became. You remind me of Ed China. He used to say: _That's gonna be a ton of work, so I better get started._ What an attitude. Watching you I read in between the lines: _Don't know what to do? Just roll up your sleeves and try. You will find the solutions._ I strongly dislike Nike. Despite that I must admit that their slogan is one of the best. Your vids are a treat.
I've done a couple of Defender chassis with a paint called Jotun Jotamastic 90gf, made for boat hulls it's a 2 pack epoxy that's made to stick where perfect preperation may not be possible, I do the same as you've done, wire brushes, rust converter, Jotun paint and then I use a spray wax both inside the chassis and outside, takes a good while to do a complete chassis but the results are good, I'm not a fan of Lanoguard. 👍
Awesome job, would love to do this to my 2005 Lr3 HSE 4.4 V8 which I purchased after watching your channel for over a year. Just wasn’t game enough to go for the TDV6 and the v8 fits in with my 110 county 3.5 v8 and disco 1 3.9 v8! Keep up the good work and love the kitchen foil tip!👍🏻👌🏻
What a fantastic job! Highlight of my Sundays watching someone else work. Think those holes in the body are called grommet holes maybe? One of the rustiest cars I ever owned was a Mercedes estate. It was rust free when I bought it secondhand. After 6 months it rusted everywhere from the inside out! Ran well though.
Your attention to detail is right up there with Sarah. Glad there were no surprises requiring metal work. Now that you are almost done, would you do it again?
