In this video I cover where to order special parts for JDM 4X4 Kei trucks. I also include a list of Suzuki Carry tuneup parts down below in the description.
I show how a locking differential helps in some conditions offroad, how to repair the axle lock if you’re having problems with yours and ahoy how to change out a CV joint rubber boot.
For more maintenance kei truck videos check out the play list below ⬇️

As a fan, and like the others commenting, keep doing what ur doing. We love ur channel and videos and appreciate the hard work U put in to the builds/projects and the editing process. RU-vid should use a different app for the shorts. Keep this format for teaching, building, etc… Keep up the great job sir.

I never hit the notifications bell because I'm on here every day. Sometimes it takes me a day or 2 to get to watching a video but as I believe you said some months back you have been putting out less videos. You are producing one a month it seems so you will lose the viewers interest. Most of the channels I subscribe to produce on a weekly basis. Yeah it's a lot of work and no one can blame a creator for getting stretched out on it. You content is great and I love watching. So whatever you put out I'll be here waiting. Hope you keep going and thanks for your channel.

Mike I see a direct correlation between you playing a drum solo and the amount of views for that episode! Give the people what they want, more percussion please. ; } I still try to watch all your videos and really enjoy when you are working on a project build. Especially with your cool smooth music in the background. Keep up the great work and thank you!

You know, I can probably count on both hands the number of times I've commented on any video I've seen on RU-vid since the platform started. I say this because I wanted you to know how much value and enjoyment I get out of your videos. I did subscribe, but didn't see the need to turn on notifications.... because every day, I go through my channel subscriptions to see if there is new content. And there's very few that I eagerly await new content, but your channel is one of them. Thank you so much for spending all the time you do to provide me and everyone else with such a great resource. I got into flux core welding because of you. And even if I don't plan on owning a carry, getting into tig welding, or any of the myriad of topics you give to us, I **still** watch it because you are a great presenter and the content is second to none.

Same here. I go to my subscriptions page several times a day, and decide if I have time to watch a video of a given length right then, or defer it until I have enough to watch the entire thing. And that just basically means do I watch it in the middle of the day, or later in the evening after all the chores are done.

Hey Mike, Mick here. I have been down and out for awhile with hand surgeries ... Wore the cartilage out in the major thumb joints both right and left thumbs ...was bone on bone and as I was healing up, my son PTSD and TBI (traumatic brain injury) came back to haunt him in a bad way. Results of 400 days in Afghanistan war. But we are on the up swing and ready for your new adventures and awesome builds.

Man sounds like things have been a bit difficult these days for you, I sure hope your thumbs heal up quickly. Sorry to hear your Son is dealing with all that, man there’s a lot of our veterans dealing with that and unfortunately I don’t know if the US is taking care of them with the help they need. I sure hope he can get a handle on that. Wishing the best for you and your family.

Great information in this one Mike! I had a not so great experience with G&R but only ordered from them a few times and the second time was decent at least.. I use a PH4967 and I'm pretty sure it costs twice as much haha, I should try that one next. As for the Tube... everyone we know is just about fed up with it, we're not really even sure if we want to bother making more videos. Not that we ever expected much, but the numbers are a joke these days and its like we don't even get a chance... on that note, 😂 keep them coming and consider Patrion, I'm sure you will be surprised by the amount of support 👍👍👍

Thanks for checking out my new video man! Haha like I mentioned most of these companies are a bit strange to deal with but they do have access to a wide range of parts for our truck if you’re willing to deal with them. Yes the algorithm gods of YT seem to only push big channels or people willing to jump through there hoops. My brother mentioned the other day on his YT creator app it mention that you can ( pay to promote your video) WTF as if we already have put enough time and work into making videos, now we need to ( pay for our videos to be promoted )??? Take care man and I hope you’re having a fantastic summer. 😊👍 I have been hiking and camping a lot this summer, good times!

Your videos have inspired myself, I have purchased a 1993 Daihatsu Hijet Jumbo Cab in August 2023, first thing I did was get rid of the ATV tires and rims that were on the truck and purchased a set of the same tires you are using with a set of 13 inch steel rims from an older Mazda RX4 that had the same bolt pattern.

Greetings from a NC boy living in the Philippines. Your videos are great and I just subscribed. I've got a workhorse of a Suzuki Carry minidump, a near clone of what you have. Specifically a Model DD51B minidump with a 660cc F6A engine, 4 speed 4X4 hi/low with difflock and axlelock, Its simply badash. I run up it 180 meters up very steep mountain grade with up to 1.3 tons of sand, gravel, etc often, 3 loads yesterday. It just grinds up slow and doesn't spin a wheel. We call them multicabs here and they are chopped surplus on arrival from Japan, They put them back together with the steering column switched to the left side. I'll be glad to send you in action pics and videos. Btw. My axle lock switch light stays on now. Im going to try to figure it out as i know what it is now after watching this vid. Thanks for your vids and laymans explanations!

Hi there I happened to see your post and I thought I'd reach out. My wife and I just moved to aloguinsan cebu from Maui last month and we have a house in the province and I'm looking to buy a multicab. I found a dealer in Toledo Cebu where I'll probably buy one. I was wondering if you have any advice on the buying process. I need 4x4 and Id like to get a motor with timing chain as I don't care for timing belts. They will custom build one for 220k php I guess that's a average price, I'm just wondering what to look for as I don't know if these dealers check out the drivetrain much. Any advice is appreciated 😊

I agree, the short and vertical videos are just mindless fluff. Sadly, we live in a world where people just want to be amused without any mental effort on their part. One of the things I like most about the videos I’ve seen on your channel is the fact that they are long form and each one tells a story of one sort or another - some, like this one, are in-depth on mechanical topics, whilst others, like the winter camping videos, are a wonderful insight into outdoor life on the other side of the world from me. I’m in (hot) Western Australia. I enjoy both types because they have a human story element that I can identify with. And, I’ve always been fascinated by Kei cars and campers. I even drove around the whole of Britain in a Kei camper many years ago. It was darn slow but very memorable! I hope you keep the channel going, even if the vids are less frequent. We need positive human story tellers like you in our somewhat superficial 21st century world. I’ve clicked the bell icon - I hadn’t really thought about it, so it’s good you explained a bit there. Cheers!

Hi Mike. I am a Japanese who always enjoy watching your and your brothers videos. I am glad that you and your brothers are using Japanese Kei trucks in faraway lands. I know you are disappointed with RU-vid's disdain for creators, but I look forward to watching your videos and hope to see more in the future. I know it is hard to maintain the old standard Kei trucks as parts are getting scarce in Japan, but keep up the good work! By the way, many of the newer Kei trucks produced after 1999 are less fragile, roomier, and easier to use, so if you have a chance, experience them for yourself! see ya :D

Here in Europe we(the royal we) imported these many moons earlier and while we don't have the axle variety of NA (on account of having articulation all round) quite a few people i've met with these have done a complete overhaul of the undercarriage (where possible, we're also a lot more restricted with what we can bring on the road) in order to escape the parts issue. IMO, after having seen that aspect of the Kei community, it's probably the best approach. Find the closest denominator, modify it and slap it on the mini-truck to make it more modern and accepting of parts readily available. Yeah, i know, big pill to swallow upfront, but if you do the long term math (and that math includes the fact that there's only so many parts for these, as most have run out of production - Japan is a small country and the Kei truck is native and specific to Japan) it's not in favor of the owner. Here in Europe, most parts belonged to VW buses with some minor intermix of Toyota Rav bits where the change implied a full body articulation swap. Just a thought.

I personally go through my subscriptions basically daily and hence only use the bell very rarely. I liked the kei truck adventures, but really the stuff I enjoyed the most were the mini dumptruck, the quad and the pinzgauer builds. The tool reviews for me personally are less interesting, I either have my my mig and plasma cutter already or don’t spend that much time fabbing stuff to need the kinda specialty stuff you use. Getting to see you come up with a project idea that solves a situation you have, see how you source reasonable materials and build exceptional quality stuff or even just building using your own lumber is the coolest. Working with your dad or adventure camping with your brother is super cool to see too. It would be a shame if you *stopped filming and sharing your cool projects, unique view and spot on musical taste. ❤

Mike, I'm really sorry to hear about your situation with the current direction of YT, it's impacts to your channel, and the down stream impacts to you and your ambition to continue. I fully understand, and can empathize with you on how much time and effort goes into creating your excellent content. Your channel has been !!!very instrumental!!! in me realizing a life long dream of working with metal. When I first had ideas of working with metal, many many years ago, there were no low cost options. I convinced myself that it was a dream that would remain a dream. Fast forward to me finding your channel (actually - a YT recommendation for your DIY saw mill), then watching all your other metal based content (fabricating, welding, instructional vids, low cost welders, low cost plasma cutters, etc...). YOU showed me that my life long dream COULD be realized. There have been other YT channels involved with me learning the fabricating craft, but it was YOUR channel ALONE that showed me I could do it. THANK YOU for changing my life for the better and helping me realize my life long dream!!! I hope and pray you decide to continue to create content, do patreon, or whatever else, because I watch EVERY second of your vids and eagerly wait for your next vid - no matter the subject. You already know Mike that I watch every video. I always watch to the end and usually watch the same day it’s uploaded (sometimes I get behind 😂). Regardless of the topic, I always watch because I know I’m going to learn something new and something incredibly interesting. Thanks for all the effort. Joel…..

I’m a relatively new viewer of yours, the first video I was recommended to watch was your kei camper build. Since then I’ve been excited to see any kei content but I’ve also gone through a lot of your older videos and builds. I wholeheartedly recommend you keep producing what you want to make. Real people love what you do, even if the algorithm doesn’t push it as much as it used to. I’ve learned a lot about welding, fabrication, and that sorta thing from you and I wish this site cared more about educational-entertainment content.

The faulty axle lock switch is a common problem with 90's era Suzuki Carry. About three months ago, after watching your video, I fixed my own problematic switch. It works like a charm and makes me wonder why Suzuki had to make it so complicated in the first place. Thanks, Mike. BTW, the actuator on my '95 Carry was much more accessible than on your truck.

Just stumbled across your channel, and holy smokes, your style of content is amazing and informative. Especially for someone like myself who is looking at buying a kei truck. I found a kei truck dealer near me. Its a small family owned joint in Mayberry, NC. Yes, the Andy Griffith Show hometown. The guy has roughly 300 of these kei trucks and vans. And as someone new to the vehicle, its cool to see some of the issues an kei truck owner could run into. I'm interested in the Subaru Sambar and the Mitsubishi Bravo.

Great video Mike! You've REALLY addressed the short comings of the Carry for sure. I've found for off roading one of these the best ones seem to be the Daihatsu. They just seem to be better out of the box. Not that you can't wheel the Carry, you can, as you have. I love these little trucks, they are so much fun and are relatively easy to work on too, with the exception of a few tight spots. When I was was looking to buy one, I found that most of these trucks are BEAT to hell or just not taken care of that well. It actually took me a few YEARS to find a decent seller that stood behind all his trucks. When I found my Carry, I knew I had to have it, it was SO mint and you can tell that the last Japanese owner took care of it very well. It honestly looked like it was new. (I've got it on my channel) I think if you hunt around a lot, you can find good examples, it just takes some time. My truck only needed VERY basic maintenance. Oil and filter and I also changed out the trans oil with proper GL4 which is very much needed I feel like. I also appreciate all your honesty about these trucks, they are indeed, not for everyone! I love mine, but I also know it's limitations and have a SxS for really fun fast paced off road riding. I made sure to hit the thumbs up and have the bell on! Your videos are excellent, don't stop with the creation, I know that the struggle is real for sure, but you have great content of all kinds. YT seems like all they care about are the big channels, they make the most money off them, not small content creators, but your sub count is still pretty impressive. You'll do what makes sense for you. I feel bad for the YT creators that need to keep cranking out content because it's their only source of income... Well, sorry for the long post! LOL! Take care Mike, wish I was out there wheeling with ya!
