If I can add a couple of suggestions. Check valve clearance when engine is cold (i.e. leave unused overnight). Timing marks can be alligned by putting bike in 6th gear and turning rear wheel forward by hand only. If you loosen the spark plugs first, this will make turning the rear wheel easier. Overall, great video showing parts of the valve clearance check not available anywhere. Thanks for posting Tasso.
Very good points! Especially about cold engine, I had bike apart for weeks so it didn't occur to me, but of course! About timing marks you're absolutely correct, wheel method will work as well. There are some parts missing from the video such as timing marks alignment, etc... but I really want people to get the manual and do this with it, its soo cheap comparing to messing up. Thanks for feedback!
Excellent thank you! Won't be doing my own valve clearance service in rural Thailand now on seeing this video despite maintenance fitter qualifications!! $200 AUD for the Honda dealer to do it here...
Hehe, yes I think some reasonable space and set of tools is good idea. It's not that difficult if you do it few times however clean environment is probably what you're after.
Thanks for the instruction. I'm surprised your micrometer still works. To not over tighten or damage the internal thread, you use the small knurled-head screw. Don't ask me how I know
Is that any better on the NC750X? After few times it's much faster, most of the pain is to get the electronics out of the way. BTW it's going to be much much worse on the Tenere 700 I have now, that looks like I'll have to take 1/2 bike apart. But T7 has 40000km for valve clerance!
I don't know, if it's possible to change shims. I'd assume that yes if the size is correct. Usually parts websites will have cross-reference to other models which would tell if its possible.
