Majestic Bears of Alaska & British Columbia | Wildlife Documentary
Watch 'Three Bear Cubs - Growing Up in a Dangerous World' here: • Three Bear Cubs - Grow...
Our film journey begins in Alaska's west. We are hoping to find glacier bears in the glacial regions of the Katmai National Park on the Douglas River. At the end of July, brown bears have now arrived to fish for salmon. In the surrounding forests, grizzlies look for berries and fresh, green twigs. The Katmai is Alaska's most volcanic area, and with 15 active volcanoes it is a veritable powder keg, surrounded by glaciers. In the Hook glacier region moose and lynx accompany us. Bald eagles have arrived at the glacial boundary and begin to tear apart their freshly caught prey. At last, we catch sight of a glacier bear. Hungry, he has left the ice region and has been forced down here in search of food, which he satisfies extensively with fresh shoots and berries.
Continuing our film trip, we head for Prince Royal Island in British Columbia. En route, we meet with black bears on their way with their young to fish for salmon. The mother bears have to remain alert to protect their young, as we have spotted some New World porcupines too.
Then, out of the blue, directly in front of us: the Kermode, or spirit bear. He shows no signs of timidity and is only interested in one thing: salmon. Then, a further Kermode appears, enjoying his cranberry dessert, allowing us to approach him, almost too close for comfort. But a black bear arrives on the scene and claims the cranberry bush for itself. After a brief confrontation, the Kermode opts to leave, preferring to focus on salmon fishing. Fascinating footage of this rare species of animal.

The black birds are Raven's not crows. This is one of the best documentary & very good information others do not know about. Like about the mosquito's in Alaska when your out of town. Yes we have them in town but not as bad . Novarupta volcano is the largest eruption in over 100 years this day June 6th,7th,& 8th put ash in every city on Earth. The photos was the first photos printed in the National Geographic Magazine. Every one thinks of the bears in Kami. But S.E. Alaska down through B.C. Canada to W. State. are some of the biggest bears in the world. Some over 2,000 lbs. I hope they do more documentary on Alaska Yukon B.C. & N.W. Thank You.

For your info, their are no coastal brown bears on the west coast of Oregon and Washington, only place coastal browns are found on earth is mainly southern coastal Alaska, and Kamchatka peninsula along the pacific Siberian coast and a few along the very far northern BC coast right next to southeast AK! And they don’t get up to 2000lb,s. Max recorded up here in Alaska, the largest ones anywhere have been recorded approx 1700, lbs, largest being at Katmai area, Kodiak island, and Admiralty, Chichigof, and Baranof island along the Alaskan inside passage! By the way have worked at wilderness lodges here in Alaska for years as a bear viewing guide, fishing guide! You have no clue.😳🤪🤣

I've educated myself on brown bears grizzlies and Kodiak brown bears for over 35+ years. There's know way I would travel in bear country unless within a group of others and carrying bear spray. These are the most beautiful peaceful animals when respected. they are my favorite animals after domestic dogs. I have compassion for others but I have to admit I find bear and human confrontation very entertaining. Because people should be educated and cautious but most people are not.

@@marcalan1198 I love dogs too. They're such beautiful animals/companions! 🐕💓 If you've ever seen the 2014 film "Backcountry" which is loosely based on the true story of a fatal black bear attack in an Ontario Canada provincial park, you realize that although bear attacks are very rare, it would be a horrible fate . And the film is very graphic in that respect.. In real life (and w/o giving too much away) while the bear was attacking, the other stabbed the bear w/a Swiss army knife in order to prevent the bear from dragging the victim into the woods. (This was not depicted in the film). The spouse then got the victim into their canoe and paddled to the nearest park ranger station where the victim was loaded into a rescue boat but sadly succumbed to their injuries en route for medical treatment. (This also was not depicted in the film, thus why I mentioned the film is only loosely based on real events. The director also reversed the roles in who was attacked). The spouse who tried so desperately to save their loved one received a medal of bravery for their act of heroism.
