This is our review of our Seacation to Eden on the Majestic Princess.
This was a short 3 night cruise from Sydney to Eden and back on the magnificent Majestic Princess.
Find out what we thought of the ship and the cruise and would we do this again?

$65 a day sounds like good value. And it might be on a short cruise but for a family of 4 on a 13 day cruise it soon adds up to an enormous amount.

This must have been a while back because we just got off a 12 day cruise on the Majestic Princess yesterday and it had done a New Zealand cruise prior to that. I agree that the boarding was great - one of the swiftest we've experienced. The longest bit was the security screening after checking in and even that queue moved swiftly. The ship is clean and the staff great. My one gripe was the terrible food in the dining room. The buffet food was much better, except for the pastries and desserts which were either soggy or dry and unappetising. The reason we went to the dining room was to avoid crowds as we thought it would reduce our chances of catching covid. It didn't and I tested positive on the last day and my husband on the disembarkation morning. We had sanitised our room on boarding, used the stairs instead of the lifts and avoided any crowded areas, but the number of people that were coughing without covering their mouths was shocking, as was the number of people not washing their hands before dining. In terms of the food, none of what we have seen on YT videos was offered. Steak was actually a couple of slivers of tough, steamed beef and the fish was dry and leathery. The pork and chicken dishes were nice though. We never saw salmon steaks, lobster, scallops or prawn dishes other than the shrimp cocktail. I must say though that the soups were delicious and I had one really lovely lunch in the dining room where I had beef with broccoli and steamed rice. This was our first Princess cruise and most likely our last unless food quality improves. We've done 15 cruises so we know what it was like pre-covid on other cruise lines, but this was our first since covid and we were not impressed, nor do we have much desire to do another cruise right now.

That's interesting. Our trip was 4th November 2023 so not that long ago, just a couple of months. I wonder if they changed the chefs? In terms of pre-COVID, post-COVID cruising though, all cruiselines have changed. I think it's probably a matter of economics as they are all in so much more debt now with higher interest rates and higher costs for all goods and services. Hopefully it will balance out but in order to maintain reasonable fares they have had to make cuts elsewhere. I did see that P&O have recently updated their Dragon Lady menu and it is getting alot more positive responses. Maybe this will filter through to the other cruiselines. We'll see, I guess.

I went solo on the Coral Princess a couple of weeks ago for a Seacation, absolutely loved it. How does the Majestic differ to The Coral?

We got on the majestic for an Alaskan cruise just before it made its crossing to Australia. We had the best boarding on any ship and the crew were so amazing I tried to book on this 3 day cruise when I returned to Australia as the ship and it crew were so amazing I wanted to see them again as they were trying to get us to do the crossing with them instead of flying home. Must said we thought about it as it would have been so much fun.

I was on I think the second to last Alaskan cruise out of Vancouver on Majestic this year. Took nearly 3 hours to board from start to finish standing in huge queues, ship actually ended up leaving late. So you must have got luck as that was not a good start - other than that thou, amazing trip.

Curious about what line you’ve found best for dairy free food?

Hi Malena and thanks for supporting us. Probably P&O but Carnival are close. Both have dairy free milk options but P&O have more options than Carnival who only have Almond or Soy. Both have dairy free desserts as part of either the actual menu or already prepared for on requests as 'chef's choice' desserts if you just ask for them. P&O has dairy free spread but you need to ask for Nuttelex rather than dairy free spread. We weren't able to find any dairy free spread on Carnival. Hope this helps

@@robandalicruisetravel that’s really helpful thank you! We are going on Dora in August with a family full of allergies! I worked as a pastry chef for Silversea and Oceania and they were pretty good but no idea about the more affordable end :)
