Seems like my first comment got swallowed for some reason. So if it pops up again, never mind, here's my second attempt. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Daz Studio becomes part of the Adobe family. They're a perfect fit. DS has been playing around with AI technology for a while now and since Adobe has been one of the major players in that game, it would make total sense. I imagine DS will leverage Adobe's database to build a system that cuts out the middleman, the content creator. You could make DS a command line driven program that creates a scene or character pose on demand. Rigging, weight mapping, texturing, even modeling the assets would be redundant. That might bring some of those content creators back to Poser. I hope we see another path for Poser. Blender, once a proprietary software, was abandoned by the company that sold it and "saved" by the community that used it and Ton Roosendaal, the inventor and brains behind Blender, who negotiated a deal with said company and placed Blender under a public domain license. The rest is history. I honestly think this would be a reasonable way to go for Poser too.. Poser has a small but loyal base of users and content creators. The program's code is old and open to Python scripting, just like Blender. This approach would be a great opportunity to finally have a native Linux version of Poser. Windows 10 will die next year and older but perfectly fine computer systems that can't run Windows 11 and the Recall/CoPilot+ nonsense in mind it could be a huge advantage for Poser as it becomes the first 3D content manipulation software for the Linux platform. Since Poser is already linked to Blender, a resourceful member of the community could create a Blender-to-Poser module and we could make good use of both programs. Wouldn't that be nice?

I don't know if there are enough fans with the skill to make more of Poser any more. The number one thing would be Genesis support. I fear that it would be the final nail in the coffin.

It's still just a rumour. Bondware has a long way to go before Poser can be viable enough to match DAZ. It is encouraging that more and more store items are becoming available. But that's it for now. Any news on when we'll get a sneak peak of Poser 14?

No news. In fact, I have heard that the dev team has been reduced to just one person, and the CEO of Bondware said something to me last month that makes it sound as though it will be a looong time in coming.

Yeah, as you say interesting. I have heard about this but not about the Adobe stuff. I don't have any subscription and only pay for licensed softwares. So the future is clear to me: I will use the free version or a licenses one as long as there is one. Same for Poser. Poser as-is is ok to me, I am mostly upgrading to support Poser. But is would be sad for both Poser and DS to have them go like this. For now I will maintain a working version of both, it is the best way not to be caught off guard.

I highly doubt Daz will become a part of adobe after the shitstorm and legal trouble they got themselves into this time, it's more likely that Adobe will be broken up to stop the monopoly and Daz potentially positioning themselves to buy up parts of Adobe, substans painter perhaps who knows. The most likely is that Daz is positioning themselves to become the industry standard for character creation since they brought in a whole bunch of new PA's and introduced sculpting based on mesh grabber among other things, also the fact that premium members get a new model and a lot of extra discounts every month while both the free version and the plus subscription are still available to choose from talks against it, they also know that professionals are looking for alternatives to get away from adobe's piss poor practices against their costumers and they know artists hate generative AI, so there's all that too.

Great observations across the board. In fact the person that revealed the "news" has now admitted it was just a "joke," so not a concern. That said, I think Adobe's inability to buy a 2 billion dollar company has little to do with its ability to buy a much smaller one, especially as so many alternatives exist. But I would LOVE to see Adobe broken up. Their toxic subscription model is the absolute worst.

Poser is ancient. Poser models are way worse than Genesis, the render results are bad. Poser cannot be the one with this ultra slow development and expensive price. Every NFSW 3D artists, novel makers and more just use Daz3D, but noone, probably only me, uses Poser. Blender became blender because people wanted sexy Overwatch stuff. Daz3D is Daz3D because people wanted to have fast adult scenes. If you fail to attract NFSW community, you lose it and Poser lost this years ago after Genesis. I really don't know how they use 10 years old quality renders at their PR too. Game engines got way better even. Don't forget that poser wants the subscription model too as they are at milking for years with minimum updates. Daz3D will go for it too but people will just pirate more, not big deal. As there is Daz3D already, nobody would care poser too to make it another Daz3D.. Poser was strong with animating/morphing abilities but they literally do not touch those for years as I think the current developers do not have any skill to do it. As a result, Poser is dead. It's just a corpse that old people like us are kicking it.

I agree with most of what you say, but I'm not sure I agree that the NSFW community makes up as large a buying percentage as you suggest. The question is, if Daz Studio cost $240 per year and you never own it, would those fans buy the new version?
@laurentyarp514

Poser is not that bad, I achieve some good renders with Poser. But I admit It is far behind DS. Especially when you have to deal with shadows. Now with some post-processing you can improve your Poser renders. In Affinity Photo you can add spotlights to a picture and turn a daylight picture into moonlight. I admit what cripples Poser is mostly the lack of Genesis support. > it's just a corpse that old people like us are kicking it Yeah, maybe :)

Daz made their figures exclusive. File formats are closed while poser file formats are open. Poser couldn't render a daz figure for that alone. Poser also use cycles which blender uses. And poser bending is 3 axis vs the one axis for daz. Poser's big issue is they got held by a company that only cared about selling units vs upgrading and so they fell behind on unimesh. There are still things Poser does that Daz is still catching up on. Most users simply don't use Superfly when rendering, they still use firefly because they are using poser 11 or earlier. Also people using the free version does not translate to sales of any kind. There are some heavy NSFW creators who still use poser. It just does so much more.

@@cb-gz1vl Yes the free version is for sure a burden for Daz. I would be willing to pay a one time license, not a subscription. 20 dollars a month makes 240 dollard a year plus all the assets you have to buy. It's not even an option when you are not a professionnal.

Hiding features behind a subscription doesn't really make sense for Daz since you already by the features individualy unless they are trying to be bought out by Adobe. However it's weird since why would they want to be owned by Adobe when they can work individually? Also Daz is a free software you don't pay subscription to get Daz why change business model?
@poseranddazstudiofunhouse6153
@poseranddazstudiofunhouse6153 2 дня назад
There are many features that are NOT available in a free version, (although some were previously available as purchasable add-ons in the store). You ask "Why would they want to be owned by Adobe when they can work individually?" Why did Activision, a 70 billion dollar company want to be bought by Microsoft? Why did Allegorithmic (Substance Designer), want to be bought by Adobe? A large wad of ready cash that means you never have to work again? The threat of competition? Daz Studio did have a pro version sold as a one off in the past. It didn't work out, but I see this as a better crafted way of enticing people back to that business model. The problem comes, when Daz starts including features that should always have been in the standard version.

@@poseranddazstudiofunhouse6153 i guese when you put it that way it starts to make more sense, enough money to retire does sound enticing. As a content creator I really don't want Adobe to buy Daz cause that will mean 3 major things. 1. Adobe Ai spyware being imposed upon Daz Content Creators. 2. It will mean monopoly of 3d Industry they allready have Mixamo, Photoshop, Substance Painter, Designer etc Owning Daz will result in higher subscription prices that artist will have to pay. 3. They'll buy poser. They're some features that poser has that go well with Daz. If Adobe gets Daz they'll buy Poser and remerge the two softwares back into one again complete with the old pay to use model.

Daz doesn't own most of the content, the creators own their content. As for Adobe buying Daz, I don't feel it's a viable option, because a massive part of dad's customer base are hobbiests, myself, I won't go back to poser, instead I will focus on blender, I'm heading more and more in that direction, thanks mainly to the stagnation of Daz and poser in the updates, nothing new, and frankly pretty lack lustre.
@poseranddazstudiofunhouse6153
@poseranddazstudiofunhouse6153 День назад
Creators may own the content, but DAZ could theoretically change the program in such a way that it is no longer able to utilise the content. Hundreds of millions of people are subscribed via youtube and patreon to their favourite video and art creators. I don't think the fact that DAZ users are hobbyists will be a sticking point for large numbers of users, although it obviously will for some. Blender is absolutely not an option for the vast majority of users. Great though the program is, the learning curve is steep ESPECIALLY for figures and clothes, and the creation time really ruins the creativity flow. You talk about no updates, but DAZ has literally just had this new version, before that, there was the particle system, Genesis 9. What updates would you like to see?
@peterstrong772
@peterstrong772 День назад
@@poseranddazstudiofunhouse6153 the Daz studio updates are lack lustre at best, and tbh, bug ridden to the point I'm still on 4.21. and Genesis 9 is not an upgrade, if it was a true upgrade they would have needed to rename the torso. Both are money exercises, Im not not moving over to G9, because I have a hell of a lot invested in G8, and G9, doesn't do anything better than what I'm doing with G8. As for what would I like to see, AI in Daz studio, not for image creation, but for things like pose assistance, rendering, figure muscle control, texture creation, and application to surfaces, to name a few, G10 should be better on muscle and skin weight maps, and not use a shoddy gimmick like, comes with 8k textures....sigh. Tbh blenders learning curve is not that bad, I'm finding quite easy, but for those who have never used 3d programs maybe it might be. And I can see my work flow moving to blender, just because blender can do sooooo much more than Daz, and make images of a quality Daz can't do.

I don't think it's good value at all. Daz studio premier is just Daz studio with man Fridays products added to it, which would be fine if they wouldn't have removed all of man Fridays add ons from the market place, which imo is disgusting. I will not pay a subscription for the software, I would buy the software, after all I bought poser for the 16 years I used it, let alone premier should be adding ai into studio, for things like posing muscle control etc, but would rather add already existing content and charge people for that again.
@poseranddazstudiofunhouse6153
@poseranddazstudiofunhouse6153 2 дня назад
I very much agree that removing his products from the store was shitty. Also agree that the subscription model as the only choice sucks. However, if you buy a lot of DAZ models, I guess it might be economical... Their problem is, they have created the expectation of a free software model, so it's hard to change that for the majority of users. I think the software should ALWAYS have been commercial, but in the early days, it was so bare bones, nobody would pay for it.
