Level is horizontal plumb is vertical. Looks like the bottom of the cabin is close to plumb but the second story is way out, so if you move the whole cabin at the bottom, you still will have the same problem. From watching the video, the second story shifted somehow as far as how to move it back is above my pay grade. I may be wrong with my assessment without actually seeing it in person.

You might be right , I will have to find a way how to move the second floor. Thank you for your feedback.

@@thezaytsevs My advice from my lazyboy LOL would be to get the cabin on a solid foundation first then deal with the second story out of plumb then the roof after that. One big job at a time then tackle the second story if that makes sense. Good luck and be safe. You can handle this.

First time asking a question, so I apologize if it has already been asked. Wouldn't it be easier to disassemble then rebuild the cabin? 1.Label each wooden beam from bottom to top. 2.Then literally take it apart and reassemble it like Lincoln logs. 3.Put new mortar in-between each log to make it stronger 4.replace rotten wood as you go. I'm worried that even if you get it all level and complete the old dried out mortar might make it unstable and you would lose all your hard work. Prayers and blessings for your family and your projects! ❤

No need to apologize, it's a great question! Disassembling and rebuilding the cabin piece by piece would indeed make things easier in some ways, but it's also a massive undertaking with its own set of challenges. We're trying to balance preserving the cabin's original structure while making necessary repairs. Your method is definitely a solid approach, and im actually more incline towards doing that , we will see in next few videos what we can do and we appreciate the prayers and blessings! 🙏❤️

You’ve put so much time in it already, it could be beautiful even if it takes a bit longer, when it’s done you could rent it out or have family stay there, winters would be beautiful, especially with the huge fireplace, hope you can save it!!

The second level is your problem, the base is fine. I would use pulleys on the outside chimney wall to slowly winch it back to the chimney But before winching remove the roof and replace any rotten timbers and strengthen all four corners. Then and only then proceed to tighten the outside pulleys or winches. You could even use fencing wire pulleys.

When mobile homes are set up they use crawlers to move the homes sideways to connect them together. Contact a mobile home delivery and setup company. They have the equipment you need and the skills to get it done right. It's like a lift on tank treads. The important thing is they have the skills to level the building.

Not a builder but here's my 2 cents! The second story seems to be the leaning problem. Once the bottom of the cabin is anchored to the new foundation, perhaps sink some heavy post upright further out and away from the cabin to use as an anchor to pull to second story straight with come along/chain blocks etc.. Good luck to you all👍

I have an idea but it's just a amateurish thought, I'm no structural engineer or have any building experience. The way I see it is the cabin is leaning away from the chimney. If instead of rolling the building towards the chimney, find the center point of the structure and use that as a balancing point. Raise the cabin on the opposite side of the chimney and lower the side where the chimney is. So no rolling the cabin but tilting it towards the chimney. Just a thought.
@thezaytsevs

thank you for your advice but the way the walls are hangin by the chimney I dont think it would work in this scenario but I will look into this option as well.

It's a shame that whoever had this cabin before you guys purchased it took the main structures out of it by removing the second floor I believe that caused it to weaken the cabin,
@garymucher4082
@garymucher4082 2 месяца назад
Maybe three or four or more diagonal cables attached from the base wood at the chimney side to the top wood of the opposite wall to tension the building. Since the base by the chimney is pretty much where it needs to be, the diagonal cables would pull the opposite side toward the chimney as you slowly and evenly tighten the diagonal cables. And since that would be a slow and positive adjustment effort, you can easily monitor everything as you adjust. Just an idea...

hopefully, there are some historical restoration/ preservation people in your area for advice on squaring off the house. seems to me, the fireplace wall would need braced and secured to 'pull' while pushing from the opposite side.. if that makes sense.. lol. praying for the best, as always!

You've come so far, and it would be a tragedy if you can't save the cabin after all the work you've already done! Whatever you decide, do it SAFELY. The only thing I can think of, and I don't know if it's possible, but if you could somehow encircle the side OPPOSITE the chimney with heavy strapping, even rope, and use the trees out from the cabin to attach block & tackles with pulleys, and use a vehicle to SLOWLY pull the cabin towards to chimney. Pulleys should give you more control to EASE the cabin towards the chimney. That way, you could keep everyone well away from the cabin, with spotters on each side to radio what's going on. I honestly don't see rollers giving you the control you would need - besides, it doesn't appear that the BOTTOM of the wall is that far from the chimney base - more like the upper level.

Did the check how the roof and wall are tied together above the fire place? In a wooden structure the roof ties the walls together.

Agreed, and the FLOOR being partially removed contributed to the shifting wall, I'm sure.

@tidemover
@tidemover 2 месяца назад
@@thezaytsevs What if you go up to the under roof side where the roof meets the chimney wall . See if its being pulled from that direction. Since its a wooden structure it will only collapse in a certain manner. If that upper wall or roof is rotted that could be the cause.

My question is why is that cabin moving as it is. Is it subsoil issues, subsidence? Perhaps a core drill assessment would answer that. The results may guide the next steps to stabilise the ground before the work on the cabin continues. A structural engineer is possibly your best go to. This is certainly a challenge that you seem to be carefully researching. I was amazed to see the earlier videos of what you were doing. It certainly concerned me that there was high risk messing with it, not something I would try without first seeking professional advice. Be safe whatever you elect to do, this is going to be worth watching as you work through the issues, that’s why is subscribed to your channel.

If the second story is out, run some beams vertical from the top down, and one horizontal for the second story floor and pull it in with come-alongs, to vertical level.

I don't know how much you know, so I'm going to assume 'nothing' and maybe give good information. The people who move mobile homes and sheds, have big roll around lifts that they put under the buildings so they can just move them wherever. Maybe you could use some of those?

Without seeing it in person, it looks like the second level is the issue, does the parallel second story wall have the same issue? There needs to be more supports/beams added for those second story walls as the chimney actually weakens the structural integrity of that side of the cabin. The walls and chimney should also be secured together for strength. Right now they appear to be 3 separate entities, instead of working together as 1 strong wall.
@thezaytsevs
@thezaytsevs 2 месяца назад
I might have to take the second story apart so I can take some of the weight off and then try moving it and brining the second story to alignment . And after that, we can put a lot of support and brace all the walls together.
@amilan409

hmm, to my eyes, it looked like it's more so the "second story" portion of the wall that the chimney is on, that's moving inward ...what if that part was straightened out ?

top of the wall is more then the bottom but both need to come closer to the chimney.

The top half looks out of plumb and the bottom half better. I know nothing about these restorations. I would take the entire cabin apart, inspect all the logs and rebuild it, even somewhere else on the property if it fits in better elsewhere. That's the only way I would feel secure that It's sturdy and safe for another 200 years!
