Great review ,it would be great if they made the lower and upper foot plate wider so that you could do various leg exercises on it

Dumb question since there isn't a good forum for these -- how tight are the rollers supposed to be? I find the hack squat to be really hard to move, and I have a weird "thump thump" that happens the less weight I have on the machine...the instructions for building these things aren't super informative (though support is good at answering questions). I do greatly appreciate having this in my garage gym.

I tried not to have them TOOO tight to the point where it’s going to be hard to even move it. I lubricanted the guide rods too and it’s made a difference too

I agree! I’m just going to build a bigger platform for hack squats and use some bolts to lock in through the holes they have there for the pad

Luke, There is a video of Tom Platz training John Meadows on hack squats. Tom Platz used light weights on the hack machine and his heels were all the way back. In the 1970s, I used to train with Lance Dreher; and Lance use to do a lot of sissy squats. Tom Platz uses the hack machine in a way that reminds me of more of a sissy squat range of motion. You have a nice leg press, hack squat, and safety squat bar. You are off for the summer, maybe you should make it the "Summer of Leg Workouts". When you start pounding those legs hard, it's easier to put on muscle in your upper body as well. The legs are magic. You may want to go back and watch some old Tom Platz clips to get motivated. And, also those Tom Platz clips will make you rethink your hack squat technique and your squat technique. With Tom, heavy weights were always secondary to a full range of movement. That mostly means Ass-to-Grass(A2G). You may want to put a wedge or plate to elevated the heels to get that low. The other thing with Legs and bodybuilding in general is that sometimes you can work a lot harder if start out with lower weight and full movement. I generally look at were I want to be on weight for 12 reps and then back off 4 steps. So, for 12 reps if I want to be at 225lbs doing "Tom Platz" A2G squats. Then my first set is just the BAR for 20 reps, 2nd set 25lbers (each side) for 18 reps, 3rd set 45lbers for 16, 4th set 45lber&25lber for 14 reps, 5th set 2-45lbers(225lbs) for 12 reps. Then from there you can pyramid down for a set of 10 and then 8 or stay at the same weight or continue to go up in weight if your execution is excellent. In those early sets I really focus on technique that way as the weight gets heavier hopefully I maintain my technique. I think people enjoy working legs more when they start off with lower weights and build up as well. You get biochemicals like endorphins, lactate, IL-6, Testosterone (naturally made by your body), HGH (naturally made by your body) and synovial fluid in the joints, and the release of Nitric Oxide by the endothelial cell of your cardiovascular system (this Nitric Oxide release is what is responsible for a pump) to ramp up in the body as you take more time to move up in weight. Testosterone and HGH are stimulated through resistance training. Lactate sometimes gets a bad name because of supposed Lactic Acid build up. But, both are natural biochemical released primarily during the anaerobic process of the Krebs Cycle (Krebs Cycle is also call the Citric Acid Cycle). But, as it turns out Lactate is used by other surrounding muscles as well as by the heart and the brain as energy during intense exercise. It also acts as a signaling hormone during exercise which increase BDNF and other neurotransmitters. So, you get that workout high, and other long-term brain effects. Anyways, the bottom line is you can now beat your legs into submission over the summer break with the new equipment and Tom Platz attitude. Great review. Machine could probably use two side braces instead on one center brace on the bottom. Also, I noticed they used a nice reinforcement corner on the top. However if they would have used a bottom brace on each side they could have had reinforcements in the corners of each of the triangles. I am sure Major Fitness will figure that out and add it in the future. They have really recently added some good corner bracing to their racks. Sorry about the long length of the comment. Thank you and regards, Larry

Bro, I need to see this, especially with John. He has shown me so many movements that have inspired my training. It is so true with the lower weight. I just feel better going lighter and better form, and if I ever go super heavy, I swear I feel like I cannot walk for days lol I have been doing 2 days a week of legs, and it is has been working out pretty well!! I am going to take a look! The bracing has been a nice touch in their new machines for added durability for sure!
