If people come here but are not willing to embrace the culture, which includes hunting, guns, camping, respect of those who hold more traditional views, then please stay where you are. :).

That is not the regret. it's going woke and sucks. That's the issue. I wish people in Billings WOULD not tolerate it.

@@ScottGrow117 One thing we can do, if any business supports woke ideology, we dont shop there. I started doing this in Billings. If I see it, I wont spend a penny in their establishment. That is where it starts, in their pocket books. But we have to do it as a whole, not as a lone wolf.

@@wordswithatwistI'd refrain from using the word "woke" its just nonsense. I'm a progressive myself and believe in gun restrictions for bigger cities, but this doesn't mean that I don't think Guns are necessary especially when you live in places like Montana that have a lot of dangerous wild life. I'm also a supporter of vegans despite not being vegan myself but if you hunt for your food It's different than arguing against the meat industry. Youd 100% call me woke given these descriptions but ultimately as I pointed out it's just a propaganda fueled buzzword to make you disagree with democrats. Majority of democrats share this outlook and those blue haired liberals you guys point at are the minority of the group. If you really want to see what democrats stand for you need to force yourself to step out of your bubble and search for left leaning media or at the very minimum a centrist channel that covers politics. I'm a centrist progressive so personally I get most of my news from channels like Secular talk, David Pakmen, TYT, Adam Mockler, Luke Beasely, Rebel HQ, and Meidastouch which all tend to still criticize Biden even if their content predominantly criticizes the right. That's where you'd find more authentic criticism that isn't just CNN or MSNBC left wing vague media.

@@johnjaco5544 What are you use to in terms of taxes and electricity rates? I'm thinking of moving to Montana from western washington. You talk about high property taxes, come live here! lol And Montana has electricity rates that are effectively cheaper than western washington (which is already one of the cheapest in the US) because WA has a step up rate, the more you use the higher it costs (Although still really cheap). But Montana's is even cheaper. Want overcast/grey skies for 8+ months? Come visit western washington where it's 40f and raining for 9 months of the year (slight exaggeration). Really though we have 9 months of grey skies and 3 months of good weather (which is recently ruined by smoke from wildfires). Montana looks like a step up in all categories for me except the state income tax...but lack of sales tax and cheaper goods overall, plus way cheaper property taxes makes up for any state income tax.

Montana is nice 5 months a year. This winter 2024 has been sooooo great. I love this winter. We are leaving in August. I don’t like Butte. There are too many mean people. They come in all ages, and sizes. Just waving back to you when you are walking seems to anger most of the people here. The town of Butte is falling apart. Bricks are falling out of the old condemned buildings downtown and in other smaller towns too. Drugs pouring in. It’s too much. We are going back to the southern states, maybe Texas. At least there the people are more fun. The weather isn’t horrible. Good luck. If we were going to do this again, we would have probably tried the Hamilton Area. That is south of Missoula. Look it up. Nicer winters than Butte too. It’s called the Bitteroot Valley Area. Take care.

Generally east coast people will never like west coast or even the midwest I think. If you are used to that busy life style with the corner shop and tight housing and the streets buzzing with kids and activities like the old NYC shown in the 50s-60s TV, you will hate the west coast. West coast is huge and spread out. It is not concentrated like the east coast. Even in LA, there are only about 30 high rise buildings, nothing like NYC. If you leave downtown LA, the rest of Los Angeles is just sub urbs and it is vast and empty. You will never get that tight knit neighborhood like the east coast. Life is slow here and the pace is slow.

I’m from Colorado. I went to Philadelphia and I thought it was interesting. Nice place to visit wouldn’t want to stay. It’s just a different lifestyle. I don’t think the two mix very well. I know somebody from New York City that moved to Colorado and she hated it. She couldn’t stand the open space, she couldn’t stand the wide open sky, she even hated the mountains. I thought she had lost her mind. But yet I don’t like skyscrapers, crowds, traffic noise, etc. so you just have to find what works for you.

I am originally from Texas, married a guy from Colorado. He works in construction and his job is moving him long term to work in Big Sky. They are putting us up in housing in Bozeman the first few years and his pay increase is significant. When we got to visit, just about everyone seemed super friendly which was nice in comparison to what you read on some of the comments on YT and reddit threads, this isn't anything new though you have people here in Colorado and back in Texas that are very vocal about not wanting anymore out of staters moving in. I do think the thing that has me worried the most is back in 2019/2020 when it first came up, if i remember correctly the housing market was very different in MT than what it looks like now. So the timing of when and where to buy is really intimidating.

Eastern Montana has dirt cheap prices. Things get extreme $$$ as you head West. People complain about prices but actually there are a lot of places in America that are incredibly cheap it's just that people don't want to live in very small towns. I am retired from the Air Force and I got stationed in Great Falls in 1989. I bought my first house, kept it when I got transferred to New Mexico, and returned after I retired in June 1995. Montana is a wonderful place to live and raise a family. I eventually left only because my wife , of 35 years, passed away and I then got remarried. In this day and age, there are no perfect places but we enjoyed living in Great Falls and Montana. In 12 years when my wife retires, we’ll sell our $1.1 million dollar home here so we can put our septic system and well in, buy our fixtures and relocate for our retirement years. A big part of the culture here is be kind to those you meet, especially your neighbors, new or old. Another big part is respect the culture and don't try to change it (culture including hunting, guns, a fair amount of Libertarianism (ie, leave me alone), and a relatively traditional view on most things). A lot of people have started jackin' with the second part of that, so the first part has kinda gone out the window for a lot of people. If you move here and respect the culture and don't try to change it, you'll generally be accepted. Although rural towns are especially prickly to move to if you're not native to that area. I've heard a lot of people complain about people here being rude, and my first questions are always: "Where'd you move and did you f with the culture or not agree with the culture?" Not saying that's right or wrong, but that is how it is out here.

These videos tend to understate the weather here, winter starts anywhere from sept to oct & can last into Apr, with day highs averages low 30s & sub zero at night, with dys & weeks of -10 to -60. there's really no spring, we go from 30's during the day to 70 degrees or higher the next day. Fall isn't much different going from 70s-80s day & 50s night one day to 30s to low 40s days & single digits or sub zero nights. These videos also tend to downplay the hunting & gun culture here in MT. Hunting, if it's off season for big game, birds or furbears, then predator hunting is going on. From coyotes & raccoons to rabbits, hunting is yr round here in MT. Gun culture, things have changed since passing permitless carry 3 yrs ago, use to be you saw open carry everywhere, not so much since the passing of the permitless carry. But understand here in MT, even if you don't see the firearm assume everyone is carrying, so don't be surprised going into a WAL-Mart & seeing someone carrying a firearm. MT is a complicated state, from politics to social issues & everything in between. MT is setup for you to succeed, but also setup for you to fail.

Winter is too long, rent is too high, the people are grumpy, mean, and really don’t want newcomers. Good luck. If you have children make sure you supervise them very tightly.
