Oh wow... That is some seriously large chain. Don't think I've ever seen chain that large before! Well, best of luck getting the machine running again. Costly downtime sucks.
I love your business philosophy. I have seen so many people try to borrow their way out of debt, it don’t work in a down economy. Need to send you to Washington, I live in SC, you have my vote.
Charlie thanks for taking time to make this video. Great call on replacing parts while you have the time and $$. Paying cash is the only way to go. When it all goes to he*l you can sit back and enjoy the peace of mind of knowing you will be ok and can swoop in and pick up some real deals on near new equipment. Keep safe down there.
There should be a shear bolt in the driveline, we have had people put a grade 8 bolt then they hit something and it causing the exact damage. I'd check to make sure it has the right bolt
Oh man, that’s not only the hard way to find something buried in the ground but expensive to. I’ve worked on equipment and when, not if, things go bad, it’s hammer down time and get it back up and running and don’t cut corners because it will bite you in the end. Like your take on the economy, and these fuel prices are going to start shutting down a lot things from work to recreation and that means jobs and no jobs no money for fuel and other things, and on and on it goes. Thanks for the video.
Ran reclaimer for 18 years, started with Cat RR250, then RM 350 A and B then Wirtgen 2500 then a CR3800, we metal detected all our jobs, company had 10 reclaimers at on time we did foamed asphalt injection along with cement
I had never looked at how the drums are driven on those. That's kind of brilliant just to use basically standard technology diffs, axles, and planetaries, and some big ass chains, to change the direction of rotation, move it back to the main shaft, and allow drum movements. Sorry it broke on you, but you seem capable of handling most anything! Good luck getting it up and running properly soon.
@@copperheadmarine yes, I am imaging fancy bevel gear shafts and giant double cardan joints like a European engineer might use, and how much harder (and $$$) it could be to work on!
Nice explanation of the drive system. Makes so much sense, vast majority of the power is going to the drum, so to run the wheel motors off the PTO while a fairly conventional geared transmission runs the drum... Sucks that cat don't even got the parts on the shelf, though it is a rather niche machine.
Good to hear from you again, was thinking you might have fallen off the face of the Earth or blew up from working so much. But yes, it's a good idea to get the seals and bearings replaced while the bits are apart because you're not lying about them failing after reassembly. Power wash what you can, then get a old needle scaler or small chisel for an air hammer to get at the really caked on stuff, and no kidding about the forecast for fuel and the market, it's getting real scary and doesn't look like it's going to be better anytime soon. Keep safe out there.
I pray the crash doesn’t happen this farmer here is one that will struggle. I try and keep my debit low but it’s just been unavoidable for us right now.
Charlie, you are truly on a mind boggling level. Every time I watch one of your videos I’m impressed how one man can have so much going on and stay sane. Love watching your videos. Good luck to you Sir.😊
Good luck. I retired in 2008. Didn't owe on nothing still dont. I stay away from going big on buying stuff. No loans unless I am positive I can pay them no matter what. I graduated in 1973 loan for a car and motorcycle. That was a bad couple of years. No jobs anywhere. Laid off 6 months 60$ a week unemployment.. That's was something I didn't want to do again.
I've been saying we're headed to see another 07-08 again for the last 9 months and nobody will listen. No it will be fine they say. It's just a supply issue. The bubble is about to burst again.
Yes 2008 is coming again, I see it coming, pay off all your debts so you can survive. Trudeau has pooched Canada were done, diesel fuel is 2.359 a liter here in Western Canada that would be 6.72 a gallon US.
If you are loosing money in the market you are with the wrong broker. If you've been riding this out on the S&P... you're with the wrong broker. And absolutely. Carry no debt if possible. Debt is leverage... and not the good leverage either.
I always wondered how the drum was driven.... I just wish satisfying my idle curiosity didn't cost you so much time and money. Hope you're well other than mechanical issues. Thanks for taking the time to show this
dam what number is that chain ,, my go kart takes like a 40 that is a big hunk of machine there ,, hope it go's back together with no problems and no extra bolts left over ,,
Hey Charlie !! Guess Chris has been in touch with you to help with the repairs on his ""BETTY"" ?? Hope you can get ALL the parts you need to fix this machine & get it back to work !!! Saw it working when Chris was down to do a video on the ""SWAMP"" project !! Great to see how you get the ground to withstand being built on !! Have a good week & yes,, Things are going to "H____L faster than you can swim !! 😡🤬
When the tide goes out you find out who's skinny dipping. Just don't follow that tide out hoping it's gonna come back in or your walk back to shore is gonna get longer and longer. 😂
I did that too don’t feel bad I had five coal trucks and the market fell out I had money in the bank and kept paying guys to do dead work and paid insurance till I paid my way out of business when I should have just cut and went home but I kept thinking it was gonna pick up well not out of business but I had to sell 3 trucks and start over lucky I had the trucks paid for but I had a nice bank account until that happen I could had lived a long time on that but you live you learn lol
Might aswell do as much as you can whilst she's tore down, and I've been telling people the bubbles about to burst. Top content as always. Thanks for taking the time mate 👍
Oh I'm sure we can cross paths around the area some time. I'll only be in Florence tomorrow then back to Jedburg tomorrow night. For work Tuesday. I'll reply to this coment when I'm back in the area. Be glad to let you check out one of our projects.
Charlie, it is amazing you seem to keep an even keel through all this which probably is key to your success. Thanks for the great explanation of that massive piece of equipment and what ails it. Good luck getting all the parts and getting it making money again soon.
Wonderful instructional video Charlie sorry I don’t understand a word of the tech stuff but it’s always a treat to see what you are doing. Best wishes from the UK.
