minor to major really just doesnt work. many people have tried and it doesnt transpose well. it really only works as major into minor and not the other way around. once its in minor key, its a done deal. besides, oooo major key. so you wrote a song in most likely the same exact key signature as 400,000 + others. whoohooo! minor key is hard to do and do right. why do you think not a lot of artists use minor key for full songs? chase makes it look so easy but its really kind of a pain in the ass! tried going for music theory right out of high school 10 years ago but was nowhere near ready for it. had 2 friends going for music theory fellowships they called it. were looking to become college professors for music theory. they claimed it was a 15 year undergrad program with at least 5 years at grad school to finish entirely.

matthew lowe Amen to that. The only way I'm willing to let go of that when it ends is the stamp-clap percussion that follows immediately. Those percussion inserts are another of my favorite features of the arrangement.

Easy trick like he said, songs in major key usually sounds happy and minor sounds sad. So if there's a song with a happy-ish tune that you'd like to hear sound a bit sadder you can suggest that. If you're unsure whether it's major or not you can probably google it to find out :P

Jamin Gray Okay - you probably have found the answer by now, but if you're still curious here's a drastic simplification by someone who has NOT studied music theory formally. TL;DR: basically, a minor scale is a major scale that has had some of the tones compressed (flattened) in relation to the major scale, leaving the chords feeling incomplete or unresolved compared to what we're used to hearing. More complex explanation follows... In a major chord, you have a "perfect" first, third, and fifth tone, based on the spacing of the tones on the key. This is easiest to see on a piano keyboard with C-Major (and the C-Major scale) - the C-Major chord is C, E, G. A minor chord drops the second note in the chord down a half-step, so you'd have C, Eb, G. This narrows the gap between the first two tones, leaving a rather "spooky" feeling to it. Applied to the rest of the scale, your third, sixth, and seventh tones will be "flat" compared to the major scale. Again, this narrows the tones in ALL the chords (and changes most of the chords in the progression of the scale), and creates that spooky sound - everything sounds "off" to what we are used to hearing, but without sounding out of tune. Hence, minor scales and chords are used to create spooky or haunting songs (classic example - R.E.M., "Losing My Religion" is in minor). I'm sure music students will have a better answer, but like I said - I wanted to create a drastic simplification while still hitting on some of the reasons behind the spookiness of the minor key.
