Majora's Mask: Time's End (remix by Theophany) 

This track by Theophany was originally made available years and years ago on vgmix. That site eventually went on a long hiatus and much of its music more or less disappeared during that time. I happened to have this track saved on my computer and was in love with it, and I uploaded it to RU-vid in the hopes that others would discover it. I'm so thrilled by the attention it has since received. Please be sure to support the artist if you enjoy this track, I've added a link to his channel at the end of the video.

Ya know... it's been many years since I've found this song, and yeah, the soundtrack is out now which is amazing.......but there's something special and nastolgic about this specific version of the song. Every so often I get reminded about this song and I just feel inclined to come back and listen to THIS version, the beginning of it all.

I hope this song never gets lost and forgotten.

This game speaks thousand of words on how to tell a good story. The NPCs in this game feel like they are real, they have real world problems an react to them in a way thats natural. Characters rarely over exagerate what they need. Each character has a life story. Which is why I think plot wise this is the best Zelda. Without the plot its not the best. When you talk about Majora's mask you talk about Cremia's hug scene. You talk about the composer brothers, not about how you fought a boss.

+Thomas Brimacombe I think thats why Majoras Mask it's the greatest Zelda there is and yet to be. Because no matter how much you like Midna or how in peril Tethra is, you aren't really ... involved.. In all Zeldas everything it's on link's shoulders, should he fail, Hyrule would peril, you know this fact in everygame, but in Majoras, as soon as you begin to listen diferent music, diferent stories and character you start to get involved, like, fuck I REALLY got to save them all, it's not only Hyrule this time, the entire world it's about to perish unless I do something, I felt it that way, and really got involved with every character in the game (As crazy as that sounds). Long live Majoras. Operation Moonfall.

This is the video that years ago introduced me to Theophany. Since then he has become my favorite artist. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for introducing me to this beautiful music.

Wow. You know I never realized that. Majora's Mask was my favourite N64 game and my first Legend of Zelda. I recently re-played it and beat it 100%. I love looking into the games themes and meanings but that honestly never struck me. Thank you for pointing that out. I am now going to re-face Majora as Link and win the fair/proper way. Once again, thank you.

I gotta say man. This was the first game i ever played that i really cared for the well being of any of the townspeople. Well done with the music and the pictures. Damn Majora still creeps the hell out of me.

I was link for Halloween and people called me zelda,the next time I was in class on a computer I was looking up all of the different versions of the hylian shield,then my teacher said what are you doing,then said she loved playing that game when she was younger and then gave me reeces butter cup XD

It also focusses heavily on sidequests instead of just having to collect 100 of somethings you actually get to interact with NPC's and each NPC has their own story, their own daily rythms and basically their own life. That's what makes this game so special for me, the whole world just feels so much more alive. The NPC's actually mean something to you, you WANT to save them. That's my favorite kind of storytelling, when the game tells the story itself without having to rely on 5hours of cutscenes

Goodness, this is so epic

That's why I think this is the best Zelda game- not because of the gameplay or anything else like that, but because it is so dark and has a much deeper message. The focus on sidequests like Kafei and Anju, which really focus on character development and, ironically, the fact that eventually everything comes to an end, especially in a series about saving the world from destruction.

Did you know That the piano notes at the end of the song are the same that the one at the begining but reverse (sorry for the mistakes i speak french)

This is the BEST LoZ Remix I have EVER heard, and I don't think it could have possibly have been done any better. If and when they remake MM, I want this somewhere in the game, if not as the main menu music.

There is an even better version, but this one is still really good. And by even better I mean like silently weeping because it's so beautiful.

This is absolutely beautiful. ...And even though Majora's Mask doesn't have Ganon, Zelda, or the Master Sword in it, it's still a Zelda game, as well as Link's Awakening, and Minish Cap.

No matter what, no other game can bring such pure emotion in the player. You take the roll of hero, yet it is different then it used to be. There is no princess, nor a legendary quest to accomplish, only an overwhelming gloom of death. To witness how the people deal with tragedy as you play through the game, who they'll be with, where they'll be in the end, its heartbreaking. And to realize its all on your shoulders. That you are the only essence between life and death, its frightening.

Majora's Mask is one of the, no no, IS most tragic game I ever played in my life. The whole situation it played in. The music, the character, the events. Everything. What make it more tragic is the fact that if you fixed a problem, eventually you're forced to play the Song of Time and make the problem restart all over again.

It took me years to pass that game... and I love it. No regrets regarding that. It was most definitively the best game ever. You could see the emotion in it. If they let this game die... Ben will pay a visit.

It takes great willpower and courage to actually be able to pass this game without either crying at least once, or being emotionally scarred in any way, unless you are emotionally barren or can't understand the storyline, a very strong game indeed.

This song is just so beautiful. It carries madness in its atmosphere, and has a calm sense of death and fate. Yet, it somehow manages to instill hope into my heart. An absolute masterpiece!

Such a beautifully haunting song. I think it speaks for the Zelda franchise how musical styles ranging from epic to frivolous, majestic to elegant, mysterious to candid, melancholy to cheery, and orchestral to MIDI can all pass perfectly to the theme of Zelda games. I love the many aspects of Zelda, and I hope the designers continue to expand upon this versatility.

A common complaint of Majora's mask is that it is depressing, that the sense of doom is almost oppressive, but that isn't true. The unbridled madness of its characters, their grief, their stories it presents an unprecedented freedom of the mind, a carthatic paroxysm of emotion. It's beuatiful as well, how the skull kid encapsulates innocence(a child) and death(the mask). I have no qualms in deeming this one of the most masterful pieces of art ever created, not simply a stunning video game.

Best musical track in existence. I mean that. No other song sounds so sad in the same time like this one can. I can relate any number of scenes from other movies, games, books, even my own life to this song, as if a distant memory were flickering in and out of existence in the back of my mind. It makes me realize that, even if I were to become immortal, I would still die from non-natural causes. No, the only constant for us is time. When even that finally fades away, this is what will play.

His clocktown remix is probably my favorite. It almost makes you feel even more sad that this amazing town full of lively would be dead without you.

Just for the fun of it, I played this on Dec 20th too...right before midnight. I knew nothing would happen, but it still felt epic to listen too and to imagine being in Link's footsteps on that final hour.

I just realized that the Song of Time is played at the end, but with a different rhythm from usual. O.O Awesome.

Im 18 years old and I have to say Zelda has been a major impact on me .I remember going through Hyrule Field and being scared shitless because of the creatures(Cant remember the name right off the bat) .Such a enjoyful game for a child back then.The 90's were the bomb

Same here. My childhood is with Super Mario Bros. 3, Sonic Advance 2 & 3, Mario 64 DS, OOT,MM,Crash Bandicoot 2, and Pokemon Silver. I feel that I was born at the end of a great legacy of games, and the beginning of a fresh new one. Nintendo for me has more meaning to it. Classic Sony was awesome as well. I will never forget my reaction when Claus died in MOTHER 3 or when Navi left and Link returned to his own time or when I beat the Elite Four and went to Kanto. So many memories...

That's what I liked about MM, it was very subtly one of the very dark toned games. I loved that for once in a Zelda game they actually changed the gameplay style from their routine games. In OoT when you come back 7 years later, the townsfolk don't even seem to acknowledge all of the troubles in Hyrule... or the fact that you know... Ganon has taken over the area they used to live. In MM, you have a sense of people being afraid of the moon crashing on them and as you said they felt more alive.

This song is so deep. It just reaches into the innermost part of your heart.

All in all...Real majestic piece....I can imagine Link riding away very slowly on Epona. He's found Navi and they are all headed away from Termina....because maybe Link became powerless to stop Majora? Just a thought.....

Ocarina of Time scarred me for life. I stopped playing Zelda all together... It was almost seven years before I could even bring myself to try and finish the game... I was eight years old when I stopped playing. I was young and afraid of Hyrule Field. Though it was not the field itself, but rather the Stalfos Children that would rise from every corner of the earth to attack me once night had fallen upon Hyrule. Majora's Mask is deep, but that scarring memory of Ocarina of Time still haunts me to this day. Even though I no longer fear the Stalfos Children, who are most likely the reanimated corpses of those who died in the war for the Triforce, I'll never forget the fear that I felt. My next greatest fear was the Redeads, but they are another story... After having beaten the game along with Majora's Mask, I have finally accomplished that which I set out to do.

I used to think like that too. Then i got older, understood how subtley scary the story is, and finally understood why i always preferred this game to OOT (not saying it's a bad game by any means). The inevitability you feel will never change, and how fleshed out the characters are in the game compared to OOT and demonstrating how they deal with the moon situation and the dozens of ways each of them can change their choices and missed chances....it's just a bit too real to a lot of us for a game

I agree. When I look back on old videogames, I tend to romanticize them. But this... I can remember it in all its details and it doesn't lose anything with time, no themes or atmospheres have been exaggerated within my mind. Whether it is perfect or not, I do not know. But it is eternal.

It's awesome and frightening all at once how well Google manages to create the My Music playlist just for me. This was #2 on it.

What's even more depressing is most everything he does is undone shortly after, and most everyone he saves is in the same situation agian, and again.

When I first played the game, I dismissed it because of the time limit. A decade later I picked it up again and experienced the greatest piece of art in any medium, bare none.

They could never do it justice. Majora's Mask was pure gaming perfection, with a simple, yet powerful main plot, sidequests that actually have a good story (Anju and Kaffei, anyone?), and great gameplay and deep meanings behind it all. The only disappointment was how easily majora could be taken down with the Chatau Romani and the zora mask's magic shield.

The timeline is easy if some points are clear. 1- Adult link from OOT came back to the present as a child, then he became an adult by growing up normally. 2- Majora's mask happens before link growns up, after he completed his time adventure from OOT. 3- After majora's mask link comes back to hyrule, get old and die. Then, time passes and the age of twilight comes. This is the final timeline. The other two timelines are created before you beat ganon in OOT and are destroyed after you beat him.

Simply put it, I never truly noticed how twisted the games darkness behind it is. At first, your body is twisted and hallowed by a boy with a mask, and you are stuck trying to find help. Then you literally step in the shoes of a stranger and live their troubles. The masks you hold are of once living creatures. And in the end when it's all over, nothing is remembered...

Well I say that your thought is spot on. I think they gave you the FD mask to make you wonder if you were any better, just like LordZelkova said. I realized that when I first got the mask and read the text when I got it.

Games today will never come to this level. This game was a masterpiece (To me at least) I didn't see it when I was little, but it had messages in it that are simply touching.
