I have Sherpa friends in Kathmandu who put me up in their home when I visit Nepal. Their father was a climber he died on the Makalu and his body was never brought down. He has been up there for around 20 years.

Bringing bodies down is not worth the risk for Sherpas. All it does is put their own lives at risk.

Great respect! Turning back so close to the summit must be so tough, but very wise..

fantastic style; so much more respect for your attempt without support and o2 compared with those that use both. Chapeau

"if you're following your passions you're not making sacrifices".... what in the hell does that even mean.

I think she's making a riff of of the saying " if you love your job, you'll never work a day in your life " meaning doing what you love isn't work. Or a sacrifice. But she doesn't seem to like climbing Makalu, so it all seemed like work for her in this video.

@@adler923 Agreed, seemed like she wanted to prove something to someone rather then do it for herself.

You chose not to die. Success coupled with death is really overrated. It just really puts the dampers on things.

So sad....I feel bad for them. You know it hurts getting that close and then turning around 150 meters before summit.

Sorry they need to pay Sherpas for their logistic support first and the rest depends upon the mood of Makalu.

Huh. I found Arnot to be a bit of a bummer. I don't think I'd enjoy climbing with her. Her lack of planning and motivation would grate on my nerves. Does she even like climbing? Kinda a waste of money for whoever's sponsored her.
@prussik666

So, who fixed the ropes? 2 man team? Looks more like a full on BS sponsored gear advert. Makalu is just crampons in the snow.. with commentary..

There's always a better rate of success with Sherpa support; after all they're the local expertise with Himalayan mountain knowhow inside-out...........................So while they are there, use them................

Every ascent has a turn around time. Regardless of how close you are to summit if you hit the turn around time you head back down.

Why even post this video? There's been nothing achieved and it just seemed like both climbers lost heart and didn't even want to continue with the expedition. What a waste of money and time.
