3D images are fascinating to look at and surprisingly easy to make. I'll cover different methods including using only software (like Google Earth, flight simulator and ACC), one camera and a pair of cameras.
Huge thanks to Valerie for modelling in this video - find more of her at / valerie_della_longa

Hi nice summary. I have been using stereo photo maker a free software, able to color correct and align images. Output can be in various formats suitable for different devices.

Two identical action cameras set up identically and attached to a light bar on a handle works reasonably well. I use two older AEE s71 action cams.

Perfect. And you can get the action cameras quite close together if needs be, too. I like it.

I used 2 YI action cameras, but they had different WB settings. And they only had Auto WB.

I made some 3D pictures and short videos just to test it. My biggest isue is how to comfortably watch them. Crossing eye view works but it's very tiring for eys. I bought a 3D viewer for my phone (those googles you put on and put your phone in) but for some reason it's hard to use them and the effect isn't great. Best for me so far are anaglyphs - best 3d effect, not tiring for my eyes. I did those 3D using 1 camera technique, 2 identical camera (action cameras, but they used to work in slightly different WB) and Samsung NX with 3D lens (45/1.8 3D). Samsung also had some issues with exposing right and left size. And 2 shots were just one after another so no fast moving objects could be found in the scene.

I think that is exactly why stereo goes into and out of fashion so fast. It can strain the eyes, and you need special equipment (sometimes expensive and/or bulky) to do it.

@@FilNenna I use two Fuji Instax SQ 6 mounted on a rail side by side, and a thirty years old viewer, which enlarges a bit, and is a bit prismatic, so you won't have to stress your eyes. Works pretty nice, also for children and elderly people, who otherwise would not succeed to view the stereoscopic effect.

Very informative!!!! What’s the minimum inch distance required to make a stereoscopic image?
@FilNenna
@FilNenna 4 дня назад
Usually, the lower limit is the distance between human eyes - about 2.5 inches. I imagine you could go narrower for macro stereo images, though I don't know too much about that. You'd also be limited by the physical size of your cameras and lenses.
