@@rhondad6802 it's not so simple often. they are often talking over the music. And often it's an irritating loop. My opinion the sound of the cook's voice is best.
My lovely wife also adds shredded carrots. Makes them about palm sized. We eat them with Thai hot sauce and/or ABC Sweet and Hot sauce. In her home country of Indonesia their called bala-bala. Deliciousness 😋!
For people that only have a dollar or less per meal to spend, this is perfect. I've found that if I can afford a bunch of scallions at the store, could be 2 or 3 bunches, sometimes 4 for a dollar, I'll keep the roots put them all in soil in my throw away plastic containers and let them regrow. Healthy food doesn't have to break the budget. Covid times are rough for many people, so having healthy cheap foods is great. Thanks for sharing.
These are the things our grandparents did. There are so many tricks, tips that we could learn from them. Buy old cook books, 60',s and older. Go to utube cooking sites. Older people, foreign, Polish, Greek, German, czech, etc. Many basic meals. A wealth of information.
@@TriggerShims Really? Have you not found the MUTE button ...or the volume control? Many Videos from around the world have no dialogue: That's why there is a MUTE BUTTON! Use it!
I like how people are saying this is "slow." It's five freaking minutes. Five. If you think five minutes is TOO LONG, I feel very sorry for your sex partners.
Mmmhmmm, because anything good and healthy will be made "disappeared"--*am seeing more and more that BASIC! Foods,Ingredients are indeed being "overly hoarded up" by the "more avid" Shoppers",& hence, in this Respect, YES!--Silence IS Golden"
You must try this! I had it for lunch today. The kids loved it! I added onions, belly pepper and celery also. It's quick, healthy and cheap. Thank you for sharing!👌
Belly peppers. I think you meant bell peppers. I don't care either way. "Belly Peppers" sounds so sweet. It gave me some sweet giggles! I want to say, I'm calling it "Belly Peppers" from now on🫑🫑🫑🫑 Thank you!
I am going out specifically to buy a cabbage in the morning. This is a very simple, nutritious and cheap meal. Looks tasty. The beauty of it is that it can be added to for variations and favourite ingredients. I will certainly add half a ton of cheese. Thanks for the 5 minute cabbage pie.
So you'll make it more like a heart-attack pie, as all the fat from cheese and other dairy can build up around your heart, clog your arteries and give you a heart attack or stroke.
Yes Almond flour works great The same as wheat flour does. I fried chopped onions to a brown color first because my fam hates white cooked onions Then added those, cooled,, to the chopped cabbage. Added beaten eggs, seasonings, almond flour. Cooked in EVOO, both sides. Kept my blood sugar down. Yay! Thank you for your great recipe!
My sister and I do "Cabbage and Noodles," which is simply that - cooked egg noodles and raw chopped cabbage, sauteed in butter or bacon grease, salt and pepper. Plain and simple. But no eggs or flour. But that's just ONE type of dish. I'm definitely going to try this other version, without the noodles and WITH the eggs and flour!
I make this often, adding red bell pepper, onion and grated carrots, whatever I have. I add a garlic herb seasoning. Because I just make it for myself, I use 2-3 cups veggies, one egg and 2 tbsp flour, browning it well on one side and cover and cook slowly on the other side. So sweet and nourishing with some siracha and a fried egg on top. Yum!
Sounds like you make it like I do. That little bit of shredded carrot really kicks it up. To me, it seems like the carrots sweeten the dish. I fix this quite often. Never thought about it being a cheep dish to make, I just really like it.
This has become one of our favourite meals. Sometimes I add grated cheese, shallots, onions, etc,,,in all versions it is delicious, nutricious and so easy. A really eccellent evening light meal..Many thanks!
It's kinda like Egg Foo Yung, which is good ! I am going to try adding some chopped green onions, celery, and bean sprouts, one more egg and a little bit more flour. Then serve with some gravy like Egg Foo Yung. Yum!
Very nice of course ppl out there have negative comments usually these are the ones who don’t have any videos themselves put up.🙄. In General this person is showing her version. Of course you can add seasonings.who cares if it’s paleo diet friendly or keto, blood type etc it’s a vegetable and lo cal and cruciferous is ok to many. Depending on your tastes she’s just showing how easy it is to use this cabbage and eggs 👍
Made this tonight. I added onion and cheese after flipping. It was actually really delicious yet simple. I'm thinking smoked sausage would go great with this!
@@davideldred.campingwilder6481 You can use any color. Red bell peppers are sweeter than green or yellow. If you add more ingredients, depending on the amounts, you might need an extra egg.
@@davideldred.campingwilder6481 I like the Red ones better than the Green. Do either, do both, should be great :-). I am thinking of adding grated potatoes, onions, and a little corned beef..
I eat keto, and I am going to make this with almond flour, maybe a chaffle batter recipe and try it with this, serve it with some soy sauce and hot pepper paste.
My Japanese aunt taught me how to make this several years ago. Quick and easy. She sometimes added green onions, shredded carrots, etc, basically anything in the frig, and occasionally she added some protein in the form of thinly sliced beef, pork, chicken, or even chopped shrimp. Add a little soy sauce and yum.
If you precook it will become too mushy and soft …it doesn’t need to, remember cabbage can be eaten raw as a salad why should you cook it more ?? It will also loose its crunchiness and more of its vitamins …. The lesser you cook the veggies the more nutritious they are ….just keep in mind, vegetables that can be eaten raw need minimum cooking …
Wonderfully simple and inexpensive recipe. I loved cooked cabbage. I would probably add some sauteed onions and garlic, and then diced ham. But I love how simple this. Thanks for sharing.
I love that gas burner! Moved into a house with an electric stove and I am still adjusting to it so thinking of getting one of these for the adjustment period and can never have to many burners around the holidays. 😂❤
I made this tonight as part of our meal for dinner, but played with the recipe a bit. I used red cabbage and chopped up brussel sprouts and finely chopped courgette. It was really nice. And I used lemon pepper and garlic and herb salt as my seasonings. I also served it with sweet chilli sauce. Thank you so much for this. Watching cooking videos like this has taught me to think outside the square. Who would have thought cabbage could be cooked with egg! 😀
@@pulireddy5441 since the advent of COVID and the very noticeable increase in the price of food, at least in my country, a recipe that is advertised as “healthy and cheap” is going to catch my eye! And indeed this recipe is both of those things, and as I discovered, incredibly versatile. Perhaps just different strokes for different folks?😀
As alot of people here have mentioned, This is a great basic recipe that can have things added to make it your own, Onion garlic, paprika, Turmeric, all sorts of things to make it even better. Great recipe to start a dinner. Thank you, Oh and Cheers from Canada
My mouth is watering just watching this video. I love simple, healthy concoctions using easily available ingredients, and this little gem, I think, will become a favorite for me. Thank you!
Looks yummy. Sprinkle with garlic powder, turmeric, and black pepper. I love cabbage and would like to make this but have to find the small head of cabbage I have in the fridge. Been looking for two days. Strange.
Just made this and it was disgusting! Measurements are clearly off. If you want to make this, use at least 4 eggs. And pour flour in sprinkles and mix before adding more. Way too much flour, not enough egg, and we had burned under cooked cabbage! What a waste of money! I don't recommend.
This will help anyone whose constipated. Cabbage good poop food along with glass of metamucel. Makes me sit on toilet and poop away!!! Mind you crack a window open and do first courtesy flush. Grt rid of stench air. Ok?
Simply Ming did something very similar on his PBS show called Okonomiyaki (Japanese Pizza). He did things in a different order. He made a batter mixture (flour, baking powder, eggs, veggie stock) about the consistency of pancake batter, then he mixed the cabbage in.
I watched and subscribed. I sent this Video to my recipe file. I have company this weekend and will be making this along with another one of your recipes. Thank you so much for sharing your recipes. I get tired of cooking the same thing. Also, I have read through your comments and found some that were inappropriate or gibberish/unrelated. I clicked on the right inside (the three dots) of each of these comments. A menu popped up providing options to click on according to the type of content it contains. I reported the appropriate type of comment. I just learned about this feature. I encourage others to do the same for inappropriate and unrelated comments. I really appreciate your recipes!!
LOOKING WHERE TO BUY SINGLE BURNER PENSONIC STOVE. NOT AVAILABLE ON EBAY LOVING GREAT VERY INEXPENSIVE MEALS SEVERAL CABBAGE SO CREATIVE AND INSPIRATIONAL
That looks both DELICIOUS and HEALTHY indeed! I will have to give your delightful recipe a try. I might add a teaspoon of Garam Massala Powder and perhaps a bit of cayenne or other hot pepper as I like my dishes on the HOT and SPICY side of life. Thank you for sharing your lovely recipe. YUM!
Basically, it's the Japanese dish called okonomiyaki (means mixed up). You can add shrimp, calimari, onions a little carrot perhaps. Is served with a little seaweed dust on top and bonito flakes. When served hot, the bonito flakes dance on top. You can get ononomiyaki sauce at an asian grocery, Yum.
Let me add that cabbage pie is a great substitute for rice or pasta as a base. I just had a big bowl of gumbo tonight over cabbage pie. If you are diabetic (as I am) or in a keto diet to lose weight, cabbage pie can become your new staple. It's quick and easy to clean up afterward. I use a 'mandolin' for the slicing and also add some onion, but only to cut (!) the slicing time and I like the extra onion flavor. As for the flour, a typical 'pie' will go for at least 8 meals, so that only means 10 grams a meal.
@@natm.6168 True, Nat, but you need something to bind the 'pie' together. The egg (alone) doesn't quite do it, however an extra egg might. I started with half the suggested flour and tested my glucose levels. I found that the 'pie' had very little effect, simply because the portions were small. I'd recommend that anyone with a glucose problem test, as well. 'Keto' eliminates 'carbs' (quickly absorbed starches and sugars). However, proteins are also converted into blood glucose, and many 'keto-allowed' veggies also contain a modicum of starch and sugar. It's a matter of degree.
My daughter and me are just getting ready to do a cabbage pie and its always nice to see the most basic presentation of such a delicious and flexible recipe, well done without any BS or annoying tunes, right spot on matey! For our tonight batch we'll be adding some summer sausage, pinch of fennel diced in with the garlic, red and a yellow cooking onion, a pinch of cumin and some fresh greek oregano from the garden :) A hint on the large pieces is to cut the cabbage evenly into 1/4in. strips, it allows a more even cooking, med heat hot oil 15-20 mins on the main side, 7-10 on the flip, add a cheese on that flip sometimes, we're going with mozza but I think an older maybe even a bit smelly cheese would add character. So delicious!
@@addapinchoflove It turned out amazing and delish! We used some of my 'special' grape based (very) hot sauce with it, oh man nom-nom-nom! As I said, so simple and so flexible and I pass the basics on to all my friends! Big cheers from BC Canada!
I've added green scallions, red bell peppers, and shredded carrots and garlic powder. It was a very healthy meal. Also you can substitute potatoes flour to make it gluten free.
This is an excellent recipe. L sometimes swap out the flour with mashed pototoes. am going to try it with the canned corn beef also. Your have a great site. I love cabbage and watch for cabbage recipes all the time and your site is the best. Thanks for sharing.
It's called Okonomiyaki - it's a traditional Japanese cabbage pancake typically with fish/seafood and fish (bonita) flakes and tapioca starch instead of white flour. Usually mayo on top
