Hey mate. Thanks for tuning in. There are LOTS of alternatives for tinder out there... anything from dried leaves to fuel soaked cloth. This tin actually came with a Ferro rod that I purchased.
Man, that's sweet, but why bother? I get developing the skill to build a fire without any tools, but ferro rods' (another modern tool, just like a lighter) usefulness eludes me. If one is to worry to always carry a ferro rod at all times in case one needs to build a fire, better to carry a lighter instead.
Ferro rod can get wet & still spark, it won't run out of gas, you can drop it without it breaking (even if it does, it still works) and MANY more reasons why it is a far better tool.
@@mitchdoescoffee Not my experience. Ferro needs the sparks to catch - which won't happen if material is wet-ish. A flame WILL get such stuff to burn. A butane lighter is worth for some 3000 uses - which incidentally is about the time a ferro rod becomes useless due to abration, so moot point. And no, a butane lighter won't break if you drop it unless you are into skydiving ;-) And know what? If your butane lighter runs out of fuel, you still can use it as a ferro rod. Checkmate. 🙂
