Using a dresden plate ruler, Katrina shows us how to create a flower design using the Creative Grid ruler. Throughout this tutorial Katrina used a 12.5" square for background fabric and 4" wide strip of fabric (light & dark) - enough to make 20 pieces. She also talks through options for the centre of this block, either cutting a circular piece or creating something more 3D like a suffolk puff.

I think both colored centers look nice and alternating them in a quilt would look lovely.

I prefer the darker center, but if you’re making a quilt it could be nice to alternate both. Casually I made a pillow last week with a classic basket with a few dresden units as a bouquet of flowers. Thank you for sharing.

I've never made one but will be doing so now. I like the lilac centre but think alternate middles might look good on a quilt. Thanks for the tutorial Katrina

That’s a tough choice, they are both very nice. I love purple so I would probably go with the dark purple center. Thank you for all your great tutorials . . . really enjoy watching them & have gotten some great tips from them. 👍

This is just beautiful (I'm partial to the darker center, but you can't go wrong with purple anyway 💜 😊). It is wonderful to see you doing the tutorial. While everyone here is great, I am partial to your tutorials. ❤🙂

I prefer the dark. Purple is my favorite color, any shade, but dark the best. Enjoying your videos from NE Tennessee in USA...

I think the pale lilac centre. You could also do a point at the other end of each petal instead of placing disc over the centre - which gives a star effect.

If you are going to use the Dresden plate block in a quilt I think I would do half in the dark fabric and half in the light and place them alternately in the quilt layout. Otherwise, I think that either coloured circle looks good. Love yours and Janette's tutorials.

Definitely the lilac centre circle. I would use a glue stick to hold the turned over edges down whilst sewing the circle on.

Beautiful block in my favorite colors! IMO either dark or,light, could be the center circle - as someone suggested, if making a whole quilt/wall hanging, etc. alternate the dark and light centers - would look very nice!

Definitely darker center - I think it highlights the lighter points. As others have said, though, in a quilt i would do both. Thanks for tutorial - this is something I would like to try. Appreciate your helpful tips - always learn something

Many years ago when learning I wasn’t told to clip that corner at the fold - so I always had trouble when flipping the pointed top! Definitely do trim that corner part off! I haven’t made a Dresden Plate block for a long time so I’m going to get this template set and do it correctly!!😄😄😄

A glue stick is great for keeping the seams in place on the central circle.

Katrina- I’ve always loved this pattern, have yet to do one. I love either and think if it were in a large quilt I might alternate! Thank you 😀❤️

I prefer the pale color. I cut out the Dresden plates using that same ruler using 5” squares. I must not have cut them right because wen I sewed them in quadrants.. it did not make a circle. I thought about adding more Dresden’s but that will make a larger circle that is called for in the pattern. I took all the quadrants apart and will pin them together before I see each one. I am hoping that will work. I cut 220 Dresden’s I hope I don’t have to waste all that fabric!! Your tutorials are the best…you go into great detail and I appreciate that being a self taught quilter.

I noticed that she said to use a scant 1/4” seam - wondering that may be a good idea since there is a little thicker layer at the pointed top!

I have made this before in a u acorns and rainbows for a childrens quilt . I love this design ,I think a alternate colours in the centre is a possibility, but if I had to choose I think I would prefer the lilac 😊❤

I like both centres, but I would alternate them in my quilt. I used to see together in pairs and then joined them together in fours and so on. Where in the UK are you situated?, just wondering because I would like to visit you, if you're a shop that is, next time I get to Britain. Greetings from Kenneth in Norway.
