This is how to make a transmission cooler line tool for a Jeep Grand Cherokee from a Sharpie cap. Don't burn the tabs that connect the transmission cooler line to the radiator. Instead make a tool from a Sharpie cap for a quick disconnect.

This worked for me... keep in mind I had everything out. A big part of the technique was to push the connector onto the lid more so than pushing the lid into the connector if that makes sense.... Thanks for posting dude!!

@@americanplayscapes I didn't actually have a sharpie cap to use, but you gave me an idea of what I was working with. I just cut strip out of a plastic bottle and wrapped it around and into the connector.

Heres a different way easier first. Just squeeze the two plastic tabs the hose will pull right off. Especiallially easy when in the car. Then you can remove the tab that stayed on with sharpie,

It didn’t work for me that easily and that was probably because I slit the cap with a hacksaw not a knife, thus reducing the diameter of the sleeve the cap made. Its useful to understand the inside of this connector to better understand how it should work and why it fails. The two ears appear to extend into the joint to create two corresponding lips. These lips are not as wide as the protruding ears, but have to be pushed away from the pipes ridge. That is what the sharpe cap is doing. I suppose the idea was the ears being pressed in should make the lips push out, sort of seesaw effect, but it’s a one-piece moulding!

Can the seal inside the connector be changed ? Mine leaks at the connector. What's in there...an o-ring?
@americanplayscapes
@americanplayscapes 3 года назад
The way that thing is made I don't think it can be changed. If you are having leeks you might need to buy a new hose connector to the radiator or replace it with a simple threaded connector. You might try some high temperature sealant around the connector before pushing it back in and letting it dry. Good luck.

If I'm replacing these lines on the vehicle, do I need to drain the radiator?
@americanplayscapes
@americanplayscapes 5 лет назад
No...the fluid in this line is transmission fluid. It circulates through the radiator separately and can be disconnected without affecting the fluid in the radiator.
