Afew years ago l helped a friend who does name plates on caskets & marble mosoleum face plaques.... found out that high end caskets are often shipped in foam lined crates, so I'm sure any funeral director would be glad to have someone take the blocky sheets away !!
I’ll stick with my poor man’s pumpkins instead, that’s a huge piece of styrofoam, wow! I’m impressed. We make pumpkins with a filled plastic bag, tape, and the expanding foam from loctite
Jen we hear ya on the expense for materials it can get crazy even buying expanding foam. We got lucky on these large blocks because we picked these scraps up from the studios for FREEEEE! can't beat that price.
@heatherbright7214 Hi! Great question. Here's a link to that answer 😊 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RX8fcQk27Xs.htmlsi=hahXduq8W70TSYnp
We get blocks of foam from our mennonite neighbors they own a pole barn company they build hundreds of barns a year in our area and are always offering us free foam sheets and blocks
Exterior brick and stone masons face houses with foam before attaching the faux stonework. Builders supply companies often sell this thick foam at bargain prices.
Now y’all just need to build a giant 3-story house with a basement (outta foam) to store all those wonderful creations!💪🤷🏻♀️❤️ PS- I love you guys so much. Been following and cheering for about 4 years now!🤘👍🙌
@@deannaduncan1775 yes I was just trying to describe what I meant if I just said pumpkin man that could be taken many ways. I was meaning stacked pumpkin man of 3 pumpkins with a face on the top one similar to a snowman. I get what you are saying though.
@@deannaduncan1775 I didn't take it as rude your are fine no bad feelings at all. Lol just wanted to clarify for anyone that might not of understood what I meant in my comment. Hope you are having a good day. Thanks for your comment.
I love what you guys do. I don't live in sunny California though. I live in Montréal, Canada. I always wonder how the weather proofing would (or will) hold up to our Canadian winters. Also, I don't have enough shed space to shelter my Halloween decorations. I can wrap them in plastic or put smaller decorations in plastic bins. But they live outside all year round. 35 degrees celcius in summer during heat waves and minus 20 celcius in winter. Snowy wet weather in January and February. Can these pumpins survive two months in a snow bank?
Advanced Foam in Gardena has good pricing and quick lead time. The gun was your best recommendation ever this year. Made life so much easier - recommend ALWAYS where gloves. That stuff is a pain when it gets on the skin …
🍊 awesome. I mostly make papier mache pumpkins, but if I ever find some foam Im going to try to make a pumpkin. Thank you as always both of you are my inspiration. I always enjoy your videos.
This is not a question but a tip from another creator. Siltbeats Studios uses locktite foam it is more expensive, but you can work it more, and it doesn't expand as much.
Just subbed, and smashed like on this video. I am in awe, about to ask if you sell these they are awesome, but I was thinking other than turning it into a dog house when it's not the season for such, there would be no where to store it. Though one day I hope to have a nice faux garden scene on my property. I can see a need in my future. I know it would sure turn heads if I needed something to grab peeps attention. Awesome you are guys are so talented. Glad I found the chanel.
We do have molds, that's how we created the jack o lanterns at the end 🙂 You may have missed that part but that's what we did for the Winchester Mystery House.
Have you ever thought of creating a vacuum table... A pegboard top with a catch chamber below with a larger shop vac connected in the side of the collection box below. Might save on the cleanup!
@HollywoodHaunter ! Love this video! I have a question for you though. In your experience, what would you guys recommend for hardcoating a foam character sculpt, that will still allow me to retain the smoothe surfaces and details of the sculpt, but is still easily sandable and durable? Unfortunately I can't use fiberglass mesh because I'll loose the detail, but I still need it to be durableand sandable. I like how you were able to keep the details on your gnarly Indiana Jones Snakes and was hoping you could point me in the right direction? THANK YOU HOLLYWOOD HAUNTER!!!!!
So out of all the materials we have personally worked with I'd say the EpoxAmite Smooth-On we mentioned. You can apply 2 or 3 thin layers and still keep most of the details. Its going to be pretty hard to the touch and it sands and paints easy. It won't stop like a hammer impact but its worked of sculptures we have done in the past. There are so many options available now but if you really don't want to lose any detail from applying material you may need to make a silicone mold and then cast it with a hard resin, plaster, or something.
Thank youa I'm definitely going to try the Epoxamite now. You guys rock! Seriously, thank you for enriching the Haunter community with your talent and experience!
Why are people, so critical and judgemental? Couldn't they, just be nice? And say great! Job!!!! Or that, is fricken awesome! Or too cool! I don't get, it😒 its about a month until Halloween little early to get the green eyed monster! Lol. I think they did, a wonderful! Job! They look store! Bought! 🥰
The Great! 🎃 PUMPKIN! Is rolling around is his grave! 😆 lol. A little, green would nice! To highlight the pumpkins and stems, and brown, and black, and darker orange would give them! A more life, like feel with leaves and stems!
Thanks for making me read the instructions on the great stuff kit I got, with the gun, great information, hopefully they will bring out other cans that fit the gun eventually, although the hazmat costs to get them to Australia are killing me. Love your pumpkins!!
Wow!!! Loved this!!!! At Hobby Lobby the fake huge pumpkins r sooo expensive. I didn't know Styrofoam was so expensive. Guess its like everything else.... inflation lol.
My doctor asked what kind of exercises I was doing. I told him, "I'm a DIYer". He said: "That's nice, I'm asking about _excercise_" I replied: "I'm afraid you don't understand. Have you ever refurbished a piece of furniture? " He didn't get it.
our town's recycling center has a separate section for bringing styrofoam to recycle - of course there will be all kinds of types there, but for small pieces we can usually pick up something that works!
haha! Ya we do talk and joke a lot. We really are more of a vlog channel having fun making stuff that's for sure. I personally don't really enjoy tutorials and how-to vids myself.
Wow..great job!! They're the best I've seen. Way too much work for me.and I don't have a partner to work with. Anyway, I really enjoyed watching all your creativity. Do you sell them? I do live on the East coast. Thanks.🙏🎃🎃🎃🎃🎨🎨🎨🎨🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
That is so awesome I always wanted a large light up jack Old Lantern but you didn't show us the light that you used to make it flicker and you didn't show us what you put on the inside for the screen for the eyes the nose and the mouth so you can't see the actual light but other than that you did a great job
Thank you, we just used one of those LED flame bulbs. I thought we did show the plexi glass cut and mounted inside the pumpkin. I will have to check. We also applied a vinyl graphic to give the plexi the color we needed it to be.
We do, unfortunately we are booked solid up through October of this year already. If you would still like prices and information for the future you can email us.
First time viewer. What do you do with them, sell them? If for your self, you must have a ton of storage space. Very interesting and they turned out amazing! 😊 🎃
Hi! We made these to display but also have been selling them and making custom orders. We would love to have a bunch one year for a halloween display 🎃
There is a big difference one is paint with a little sand texture and the other is cement. It just depends on how much trouble you want to go to. Paint sealer is better than nothing but honestly I'd just mix a little sand or something in a latex color of choice and its the same in my book. the mortar is much harder but we still faux paint over it. The mortar gives it a stronger coating and looks more real texture wise. In the yard and in the dark you really don't notice so again its what ever you want to try. We wanted a smoother look to the pumpkins so you can sand the cement a little but it does still crack it the prop is huge cause the foam expands in the temp.
Love your props. I miss doing Halloween but live high on mountain ridge now and now neighborhood kids but did it for 40 years. Where do y'all store your stuff. Happy Halloween.
We try to make most of our large facades modular so they are able to be broken done and stored. As far as props go we store the largest ones in the garage and then tuck all the little ones everywhere else haha!
We do! It's too late in the season for us to have them ready by Halloween this year but if you're serious you can email us for more information for a future date.
LOVE your channel! We're beginner prop set makers (actually my wife has her degree in tech director/theater set design from UofA) and REALLY need your advice. I'm making a faux brick wall, about 225 sq.ft., for a podcast studio. We hot wire carved 1/2" foam sheets using various tools to create grout lines and "weather" the brick for a rustic aged look. After gluing the foam to the walls, we went with all purpose foamcoat from hotwire foam factory using a hopper. It's very expensive and spraying it on was faster and looks great, but, it's not as hard and we've already run out of our first 50lb order. Would I be able to spray a second coat of this flexbond on top of the foam coat to make it harder? Just don't want it to get damaged by guests, chairs, etc. As you said in your video, "the thicker the better". Reason I ask is that the flexbond is grainier and sandlike whereas the foamcoat is like fine flour. Not sure if that will make a difference. Thanks! Keep up the great content.
Hey Adrian sounds like a fun project. We went to UofA and even built a couple sets for the theater back in the day 20 years ago. I know of the foam coat you mentioned but have never tried it. You may have to test and see if the mortar adheres to the top of the foam coat. If it does it should create a harder surface. If you don't mind shelling out some more money you could use an epoxy resin like smoothon epoxamite, or epsilon pro, or shellshock. It may be easier to work with but Try the mortar see if it works in a small area. Wish you the best of luck with your project.
We do! It's too late in the season for us to have them ready by Halloween this year but if you're serious you can email us for more information for a future date.
Another idea for you guys. Make a giant pinecone and acorn to go with your giant pumpkins and jack-o-lanterns. That would be a pretty cool display. 🧡🤎💛🍁🍂

Love you guys. Our family resemble yours except I’m a power tool for everything person and my husband likes doing everything by hand and the kids always appearing to help 🤣
That's just great... Show us how the "pros" do it, along with the pros' massive costs for time and materials, but pretend it's just a quick, easy, cheap thing to do in your backyard for Halloween... Even as a former commercial/graphic artist (fine art as a hobby), I turned down work doing things like this for fairs, theme parks, hotels, etc., because all these companies wanted to pay is minimum wage... I was well past my art school days, and had made good money in the commercial art business for years, and while work like this may be great for students, you'd be a "starving artist" in no time... I certainly wouldn't spend massive amounts for once-a-year deco yard art, so this must have been for a commercial venue paying them the big bucks (they were NOT the hired help -- or "starving" either)... They must have made the Jack-o-Lanterns extra for themselves.
Hey there. This is super awesome and my family and I are going to give this a go. I do have a question though. If I’m going to use a thinset, can I apply that straight to the foam when ready and then paint with exterior paint when ready for that step?
You could try I know most end up having a softer inside than outside so I have only had luck sculpting expanding foam with dremels. Then I covered with drywall mud to harden enough to sand
Love love love, I love Halloween I just wish I had your talents. Would love to see you do a 12-ft foam skeleton like the ones home Depot sold. I know it would be quite a task but I know you guys could do it. 💀❤️
3:50 wear a mask using the foam,. if it gets into you nose or mouth it will expand and that would be bad. Kids should NOT be playing with it like that.
These are amazing!!! Do you sell any of the fiberglass ones?? I’ve been looking for some large pumpkins to display for fall, but all I can find are Jack o lanterns. I’m not sure I could make these and would love to purchase some of you sell them! Thanks for the awesome video!
