AUX to RCA
@v-g-z3689
@v-g-z3689 4 года назад
@@delksbwg3777 It´s only that easy if you can change your output settings on your laptop/tablet/smartphone from headphones level out to line level out. Otherwise, you need an external D/A converter, like the Behringer U-control. Because if you just plug your headphone out to the RCA in on your tapedeck, you will record the sound that the amplifier in your device produces, not the actual signal itself from the source on spotify/youtube. That is a significant difference and if you don´t have bricks instead of ears, listening to those recordings will become pretty awful very quickly.

I would suggest modifying your technique for recording vinyl. First, use "Pause" instead of "Stop" between songs on the same side of the tape. That way, only one button needs to be pushed to start/stop the recording. The second suggestion is to put the needle on the record first, rather than dropping it and then hitting record. The sound of the cartridge will be heard every time it's dropped. So, queue the record to the beginning of the song first with the needle on the record.. Then, rewind it a few rotations in the gap between songs and hold the record so it doesn't spin. Release the record so it is spinning at full speed (for belt driven turntables) and then hit the pause button, so the tape continues recording. This will be a much more clean product and will have less dead-air time between tracks. It's the way I did it for years back in the day and still do today. Update: If you have a direct drive turntable, you can also use the Start/Stop button instead of holding the record while the plate is turning. Just my 2 cents on the process.
@halfmt4643
@halfmt4643 7 лет назад
I had that happen to me one time when I dropped the lid down too hard on my turntable when I was recording it to tape.

I find that recording with a high quality analog/digital source like a well pressed record or CD can sound absolutely finominal (not to mention if its way more traditional). But if your amplifier/ reciever has a auxiliary input or good bluetooth compatibility, it's much more convenient to just que up your spotify or RU-vid playlist as an alternative, if you don't have certain songs in your collection!
@GilyBeck

Loved making mixtapes in my younger days. It's an art that is lost.. i still make the odd one now and again.. My personal favorite way to make mix tapes was when I got into minidisc.. that's when everything changed and made the creation of mix tapes more fun.. cause I would record all the songs to MD first and then edit and arrange to the 45 min mark (side of 90min) for The first side and then another disc for the second side. Then that way I was able to make multiple copies of the mix cassettes and send them out to my friends. Always will love the mixed compilations.. on cassette CD or minidisc. Beats any Playlist hands down.
@tadreaming1
@tadreaming1 7 лет назад
Yes, minidisc was & is great! Too bad they weren't as ubiquitous as cassettes were. So easy & fun to make mix tapes/discs, change track order, edit track size if you wanted to, cool. Cassettes were very good in the early/mid 90's so highly improved of the previous decades with HX Pro & Dolby S as options, cassette sound became less an issue.

I never got into pre-recorded tape when they were the dominant medium. At that time I was mostly buying LPs with the occasional CD purchase. Now I buy all 3 mediums, but I will have to get a good cassette deck to make mix tapes. I currently use a portable players for my tapes. Something I found to work on portable recorders without a RCA input is to get a male to male 3.5mm headphone jack and plug that into the mic slot, It works well enough with my Sony TCM-929. Another method I found (since i lost my m/m 3.5mm) is to hook up an HDMI cable to a laptop going into an AV output and then hooking up an RCA to 3.5mm to the audio ports and putting that in my recorder, Nightmarishly long but works too.

Back in the day in the eighties I used to listen to the radio with the cassette on stand by ready hit the "record" button whenever one of my favorite songs came up. And to hit "stop" as soon as the song ended. Most of the time when the song started the radio show host continued talking and introducing the song and I started recording once he was finished talking so the beginning of the song was often missing. Also, at the end of the song either the next song was blended over or the host would start talking before the end of the song. So also the end of the song was often spoiled on my mixtape. But I never worried about it. I loved most of my mixes :) But when I had an LP borrowed from a friend I usually recorded the whole thing instead of making a mixtape from several LPs. I was an album type of guy early on.

I do, I use Mexell UR-90s and I get them from a shop in Dunfermline in Scotland and the shop is called Ali's Cave. I have made quite a lot of mix tapes, they are very fun to make.

I recorded some cassettes to CDs in 2006 because of I've never found some tracks on the Internet exactly like it was on the cassettes. I pick my sister Walkman and I proced using the line in input on my computer, finally I filter the track in goldwave software. Nice tutorial hehe I've done it thousand of times on my childhood... I was all day playing with cassettes players and radios.

I used to do vinyl to cassette mixtapes all the time back when I was a kid, I have a cassette deck almost identical to the one at 1:22 but it has automatic bias adjustment. a few of my others have manual bias though.

I've been recording audio compact cassette tapes since 1990 when I was still young and I still record everything from Vinyl, CD's, Mp3's and other compact cassettes unto Metal and Chrome tapes till this day. Cassettes are awesome and are my number one choice for music storage and reproduction. I also love to mess around with and fix tape decks. I just connect my RCA cable to my tape deck, and the other end of the cable to my computer, CD player, Record player or another tape deck, simple. Calibrate my tape deck, increase the Rec volume to the point where the levels go two red notches above the normal levels, to ensure that the sound would be nice and loud but not distorted, put on my headphones and record. Three head deck is even better because you can hear exactly what you are recording.

Love that some people are trying to keep this lost art alive. I bought an ONKYO R1 from a thrift shop for thirty dollars. It works beautifully.

I had a sony mini hifi that had cd player and cassette player on it, so sometimes I recorded from cd to tape but mostly I would connect the hifi to my pc and then record mp3s to cassete, this was sometimes beginning of the century

Great videos as usual, do you mind sharing your setting for bias adjustment. I also like to set the bias adjustment manually and usually set it a bit to the left to boost the highs a bit more

yep, that's how its done. you could basically make an album like that too. what we did, back in the late 80's, was plug a pair of headphones into the mic jack on the radio, and record ourselves rapping over other dudes instrumentals. and that was our preferred way of recording, until we found out about the tascam.

First rec then play , because when u press rec u start the monitoring from source and can adjust volume level (lot of people have two head decks) , also my advice is to skip empty part on start of cassette with pen so u know start position Nice video btw
