Well, I don't have a project story, but as I watched this I kept seeing a garden trellis.....I think I'm going to try it with floral prints on a white pole with a sky blue background. What do you think?
Saw this pattern quite a few years ago. It was called DNA. I believe it was featured in the Philadelphia quilt show. Have always wanted to do it. It has laid in the back of my mind since I first saw it. Glad I watched, going to do it now. 👍
Thank you for this pattern. I have a lot of scraps from Christmas patterns to try this. My story of something that started small was I was learning to make quilt blocks that Jeni was teaching in her tutorials and ended up making myself a large lap quilt for cold Colorado nights!
I wanted to make my daughter a round table topper and saw the dresden star burst on msqc. I bought a wedge (it was my very first quilt attempt and the template looked like the one used in the tutorial). When I put the wedges together it took 40 pieces instead of 20. It turned out to be 36" in diameter. I was so upset but my daughter loved it! (I found the actual dresden template.)
It was so so awesome that finally get to meet you in KY at the Jabez quilt seminar. It was the best one I ever attended. Keep giving your testimony. It sure blessed me.
It is amazing how many different designs can be made with HST. I love this quilt and can understand why you kept going. I need a quilt for next month and this would work for my project.
Every project I do seems to get larger, I create my own patterns & always buy a little extra fabric, maybe I should follow one for a change...no, I have too much fun. Love your videos Man Sewing 😍
I have always made my own patterns. I use s spiral note book. But have upgraded to grid paper for the real special ones. I so cannot follow a pattern. It's too hard. But my math skills SUCK! LOL good luck to ya! Kari
This is the first ribbon quilt that I can actually SEE the ribbons! The contrast is perfect. I wonder what would happen if changed the top color in the center pole, would it look like they were spinning, or just be visual chaos. I must try it to see
Once, while working on a quilt that was a diagonal set, I was arranging and rearranging my blocks ( I didn't have a design wall at the time so I would either work on the floor or walk back and forth between bedroom and sewing room). The quilt just kept growing as I was sewing rows & columns. I believe the pattern that was following said queen size - the quilt now hangs nicely down the sides and almost to the floor of my California king size bed!
I really love it hun!! I personally love it as a table runner too! I was making as n infant quilt for my newborn granddaughter and it turned out to be as twin!! LOL!! Xx Kari
I’ve always wanted to but was equally as afraid to do something like this.. but now I understand it and will definitely try it.. 1/2 square triangles who’d of thunk it would be that easy!!
Love this quilt! I need to mention that you used accuracy but I think you want precision and accuracy. All the seams need to be 1/4 inch (accuracy) and close together (precision). Very cool quilt. I think I want to make it look like DNA!
Rob, will you please tell us how many of each block is needed to make a quilt the size you did? Because your columns are much longer than on the diagram, and since we can't see the whole quilt, . . .we cant tell. Thx. Great design, BTW.
My link from Zelda pixel quilt was supposed to be a "small" wall hanging but by the time I had stitched all 600 2.5" squares together it was mahoosive. I LOVE this pattern. I think it would lend itself to even tiny HSTs for dolls quilts.
Had to do a "third" comment. If I had read the instructions right the first time!! I am making 3 - Christmas table runners. Hoping my sister's will like them. Thanks again for a great tutorial.
Hi, Rob. Have you ever made a puffy biscuit quilt? I don't know what they're called. Each square is stuffed? They are cool. Maybe not complicated enough for your channel. Loved your firewood hauler. I am making one.
Thanks for this tutorial. I'm glad to see you do a more "normal" quilt. I enjoy watching how to make "normal" quilts. My favorite is the quilt you did with Jenny, The Three Dudes Quilt. I got the fabric to make that one but haven't gotten to it yet.
Love this. The first thing I noticed - after the beautiful quilt of course - was the geometric quilting! Perfect choice! You answered my question about how you quilted it LOL ! Thanks for another great tutorial.
I'm new to guilting & I'm teaching myself to quilt. My first quilt I chose a jelly roll race so I could learn to sew a quarter inch consistently. It turned out my first quilt fits a cal king & I quilted it on my domestic with like an 8 inch throat. Never again!
So this year I wanted to make a xmas wall hanging. The pattern was 22 blocks across and 26 blocks lengthwise. So I said to myself, without doin the math in my head "oh I think I will use 4 inch blocks/hs triangles".As I'm sewing i begin to realize this is no longer a wall hanging (unless its a wall in the Mall of America)this is a HUGE quilt. It turned out to be a beautiful xmas snowflake ❄ quilt .But I wasn't aiming for something approximately 77×91. I should have worked with 2 inch squares in hindsight, for something half the size.Mall of America...call me.
I am wanting to do this design and a smaller version. For the backside of my quilt with the fabric isn’t wide enough I split my background about 1/3 of the way across vertically and then insert a new section about 8 inches wide. Can I use a 6 x 6 square or 8x8 square and then make my 4 1/2 square triangles?
cutting my fabric today to make a few Table Runners ... explanation is PERFECT!! The blue mat you are using to press ... what is that????? Thanks for a wonderful tutorial. Today is November 15, 2020 ... behind in finding this.
Do you have to use two different colors (the blue and teal colors) to make it pop like that? In other words, can I use all blue and get the same affect?
Today is January 11, 2021. I am also requesting what the total amount of blocks it takes to make this exact size????? There is another Lady (Susan Mei) has also asked for this same information. I need make 3 Christmas runners using this pattern (smaller version). Thank you!! Anne
Question: how many squars of each color is needed to make a quilt of this size. I thought I had the correct amount of fabric etc but have run out a some of the colors. HELP!!
Hi Rob! I would love to know the name of the quilting pattern you used to quilt this quilt. It was nice seeing you at Road to California a few weeks ago! Thanks, Doug Sobel
I enjoyed the tutorial, but with the printout of the twisted pole … you didn't provide how much fabric for each color and what size are the HST ???? Measurements of each block. This is 11/09/2019
Yeah, I liked that! Being that my name is Susan, I appreciate the change in description. I've heard all the jokes, LOL. Efficient sounds so much better, AND efficient! 👍😉
I am currently working on a cow quilt that I am doing for my Aunt and one block started out just a simple cow head outline and I decided to add cow spots. I am quilting approximately 128 spots on 6 blocks.
Hey Rob, small project growing big? LOL started making a kidsquilt for my little kid, with a feathered star in the middle, but after adding borders until I was satisfied with the looks of it, it now more than covers a twinsize bed.... but she loves it and it can stay with her for a long time. Greetings from Germany to you
