Whoops hit the go button. I've never worked with MP simply because I prefer CPOP or HP. Thanks for taking out time from your life as a mother of 2 and the CEO of a majorly awesome soap supplier!
im happy to report that my second attempt at the sugar scrub was successful! i added no oils, and i used the shea butter base. i now have orchid coconut scrubs! thank you anne marie!
Hi Kathleen Donlon -Dort! What a great compliment from the receiver! Maybe give them a small sample to try out so they can see that they smell great and feel great. =)
Super love this!! I just made them. When mixing the sugar it never got gloppy. It immediately became too thick like it was too much dry ingredients for the amount of wet. I had to add more soap and melt it all down again. They are cooling now, but I have a feeling it is not going to be too scrubby.
thank you so much!! you have no idea how much help you've been! its been a very festive and busy last couple of months with so many parties and im the planner. lol so ive been making so many things myself like gift baskets, favors, activities, etc. and i would not have been able to get through it all without your advice or brambleberrys wonderful selection of ingredients! thank you!
Oh that's awesome - handmade gift baskets are definitely best. They add such a thoughtful touch to any party. You're welcome, and thanks for your kind comment Kat! =)
This is adorable! Could this be made in a loaf mold by layering the 3 different soaps on top of each other and then sliced? If so, would you recommend spraying rubbing alcohol in between the layers to help them stick?
You are doing a great job, these are the best soap making videos on youtube. You are clear with your directions step by step. It makes me feel like, hey I can do that! :)
Hi Ezequias! Melt and pour soap is a type of soap that you can melt, add color and fragrance to and pour into molds. There is a full list of the bases we sell at brambleberry.com. Also, you may like this post called Free Beginner's Guide to Soapmaking: Melt and Pour: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/melt-and-pour-soap/free-beginners-guide-to-soapmaking-melt-and-pour/
These are so easy to make, however when I make and give them as gifts...the receiver won't use them because they smell so good and would rather use them to smell up their bathrooms...any thoughts?
Thanks for responding! I tried some of my scrub in the shower. The EO combo I used was yummy but yes, the brown sugar was a TAD aggressive! Gonna try it again with granulated sugar. I'm thinking the oil floated by itself because (a) I used unrefined avocado oil which is a bit heavy and (b) I didn't STIR enough before pouring/spooning the mixture into the mold.
Here's an idea: use melted plain soap base to "glue" the different color soap thirds or sixths together to make a full neopolitan soap bar. Just wanted you to know.
I am super super new to soapmaking, but I can already say I would never recommend using jojoba oil in my soap.. because it stops the soap from making lather due to it being a wax, and I know I'm the kind of person that likes foam and bubbles and creamy lather everywhere. In my opinion, Olive oil isn't a good substitute for the sweet almond oil either. If I was allergic to almond oil then I'd substitute it with apricot kernel oil, because their chemical properties are very similar. I haven't got any apricot kernel with me but I'd try it out when I get it; I've tried it with jojoba and olive oil and it was absolutely disappointing because I wanted my fluffy lather :(
I love your soap recipe :D great work. My batch came out nice and I wrapped them up in plastic so it wouldn't catch dew. I was wondering how should be the texture of the cubes ? Mine turned out to be rock solid. Thank you so much for sharing your videos, I love soaping thanks to you.!
+Soap Queen TV Thank you so much for your kind reply. :) I just checked they are a little soft on the edges, are they suppose to be a little soggy or hard? I am just not sure.
super super duper easy. i do have a quick question. does the vanilla color stabilizer smell like vanilla? does that ruin the rest of the essential oil smells that are poured to the soap? like for example, if i wanted my soap to smell like chocoalte, by pouring the vanilla color stabilizer would it ruin the chocolate smell of the fragrance or essential oil or whatever that i use to make it smell like chocolate?
Hey Anne Marie! I was going to use epsom salt, but then i read the previous comments. Will the sugar make your skin sticky? Also, what stores can i find the soap melt and pour at? How long do i have to wait till i can pop the bars out of the mold?
Soap making is something I've always wanted to get into.So maybe I'll be able to find the products at the health food store or other places if need be. Is soap making products usually expensive?
best thing melt ur favourit soap(if its hard kind) then take it off the fir and add sugar then mold it ... if ur favourit soap is liquid (thats what i do) i keep some sugar in my palm and add the soap then wash my face .. or u can use to moisturize ur skin sugar and olive oil it works to exfoliate ur lips too.
Am I the only one who thinks that she looks younger with longer hair? Then again, this video was made 5 years ago.. You look younger and younger in every new video!
Could I use Olive oil? And is the vanilla color Stuff realllly necessary? A lot of other recipes for soaps don't include It... Plz reply I'd love to make These... Oh and could the sugar be substituted with sea salt? Also how many would this recipe generally yield?
Again Thanks for sharing your formula AM .. This was my try something new (with M&P) project today, and OMG(oodness) Pineapple Cilantro - which fades away in my CP - is absolutely perfect in these! I made three different batches with different FO's, matching colours, and carrier oils to compare skin-feel .. I'll have to send some to my daughter to test too :D ps: love the updated pics of J in your blog ♥
I made these for my family for Christmas, are they supposed to be foamy/sudsy? If not, is there a way to make them so? Thank you, you do absolutely lovely work!
Because of the added sugar and oil, the bars won't lather as much as regular soap. You can use Shaving Melt and Pour instead! That will add a bit more lather. We did that in the Juicy Couture Sugar Scrub Bar Tutorial: www.brambleberry.com/Sample-Idea-Sheet-for-February-2016.aspx Shaving Melt and Pour Base: www.brambleberry.com/SFIC-Shaving-Melt-And-Pour-Base-P4384.aspx
Do you do sugar scrub cubes without using MP or CP soap but using surfactants which makes it pH balanced. I don't want anything that has saponified oils or has been made with lye.
Hi Soapqueentv! I just attempted a variation on this recipe but I think I got my oils to soap to (brown) sugar proportions wrong... Should the oil be floating when I've poured the scrub mixture into my mold?
Love your videos!! I made a couple of peppermint/chocolate sugar body scrubs a few days ago and thought of converting it to solid form to make it more interesting. I was wondering if I could add that to the solid sugar scrub recipe in the place of plain sugar. Would that work out? Thank you!
Hi Brie! So glad you like the videos! I haven't tried that, so I'm not exactly sure. I would recommend making a small test batch using your scrubs. That may help! =)
These turned out wonderful!! thank you so much for this great cute idea! it worked out perfect for my sisters babyshower party gifts! everyone said they smelled almost real! (sister said they smelled so good, she almost wanted to eat em!) lol i had a sort of off topic question. How can you mask the smell of liquid castille soap? i have two bottles of dr.bronners castille soap when i first started making my own cosmetics and havent used em since the fisrt batch of shampoos and hand soaps because they smelled so weird. i have a bunch of different frangrance oils that ive tried using at the recommended amount to try to mask the sent but to no avail. almost makes it worse because the smell of the soap mixed with f/o is weird. could it be something as simple of just adding more? ive also tried adding just a tiny bit more but i didnt want to go too much over as to not waste my oils or soap just to have it still smell funky. also, is there a way i could thicken this to be more soap like? thank you!
I would recommend trying peppermint essential oil! It's a very strong scent that can help mask other scents. You can use our Fragrance Calculator to find out how much to add for a strong scent: www.brambleberry.com/Pages/Fragrance-Calculator.aspx Peppermint essential oil: www.brambleberry.com/Peppermint-Essential-Oil-2nd-Distill-P3832.aspx
Hello.. can I get the web site to order the sents and colorants... Thanks for the great vid... when I try I am going to have to tell my kids this is not candy.. lol... it looks sooooo yummy to eat....
I have the hardest time with fragrances because they are so weak when I make a foaming sugar scrub. I try to stay at 1-2% with either essential oils or fragrances because I read that's the safest amount to use. Also, you know how the scent stays on the skin after using a hand soap or scrub from the stores? Well, this doesn't happen with my scrubs. I'm so frustrated. Do you have any suggestions?
hi I just received the orders from brambleberry and I m glad to have received a sample fragrance oil with it. I just have a query. Can the soap base of this recipe substituted with Castile soap? please let me know :-) loads of love from the new soap making girl :-)
Adding liquid soap will change the consistency of this recipe. It will make it a liquid texture instead of a solid soap bar. You can do that if you like. I would recommend adding more sugar to make it the texture of a scrub rather than a liquid soap. This Cleansing Orange Spice Salt Scrub is a great recipe: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/cleansing-orange-spice-salt-scrub/ You can use sugar instead of salt for the exfoliant. =)
Hi there! My sister and I are planning on making these this weekend for an upcoming baby shower. I was wondering if it would be okay to substitute brown sugar, just in the brown soap scrub. Could you please let me know? Thank you so much for all of the awesome tutorials!
+Sumayah Luna We haven't tried this recipe with brown sugar, so I'm not entirely sure! My worry is that brown sugar melts more easily than sugar, so it may melt in the bar. I would recommend making a small test batch to see how it works. =)
+Sumayah Luna You can add the mica directly to the melted soap and stir well! You can also mix 1 teaspoon of the mica with 1 tablespoon of 99% rubbing alcohol. Then, add the color 1/2 dispersed teaspoon at a time. That helps the soap mix in smoothly and prevents clumping. =) Read more about how to color your soap in this post: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/tips-and-tricks/talk-it-out-tuesday-colorants/
hello ann marie, i made a tomato soap recipe using this amounts: 200g coconut oil, 150g lard, 125g olive oil pomace, 25g canola oil for superfatting, 190ml tomato juice and 75g NaOH... after 24 hrs in the mold, it is still soft and difficult to handle. what and where could i possible done wrong?
all of my craft stores dont carry shea butter soap base i can only get a hold of glycerin and coconut soap base is that fine or do i need shea butter melt-n-pour
@soapqueentv Hi. I think she is asking if the shea butter melt and pour is a must or can she substitute with another melt and pour base. Have a wonderful day.
If I make these and would like to ship them, how to you suggest packaging them once they are cut into smaller squares? I am afraid they will melt if shipped to warmer states and then become one big gloppy mess. Thank you! Your opinion is much appreciated :)
Hi Katie! The good news is these scrubs are nice and firm, so they travel well! I would recommend wrapping them tightly with plastic wrap. That will prevent any sweating from the melt and pour and help those bars keep their shape. You can read more about melt and pour sweating and how to prevent it here: www.soapqueen.com/personal-ramblings/augh-whats-that-all-over-my-soap-2/
Hey I was just wondering how I can get started with selling soap, or if their is a website I can go on to find out where fairs are. thanks your the best!
Jehnins Serrano We didn't test this recipe with this exfoliants, but I believe that would be OK! Some of the exfoliants are larger grained and heavier than sugar, so I would recommend making a small test batch with each to see if you like the way it feels. =) Exfoliants: www.brambleberry.com/Exfoliants-C158.aspx
@soapqueentv Curious about how much lather it will make because you added that much almond oil to this recipe? Thanks in advance! Dipping my toes in soapmaking and starting with melt & pour soap bases first! :o)
