Please help me. I am so confused. My waist measures 32 inches. When I measured 8.5 inches from the 18’ skirt length across top of one layer of fabric. I drew 8.5 inches down from that mark and made a half circle 8.5”. But after I cut that circle it caused a huge circle into the top of the skirt which wound up with the skirt being very short. What am I doing wrong and can you help me correct it? My sister has requested I make this gorgeous apron for her Christmas. She has faced many hardships this past year and I desperately want to do this for her. Yours is by far the best apron and if I can master it I hope to make several. If you do not see this perhaps one of your readers will be kind enough to help me. Great thanks.
the circle will be very big as you are gathering it up to half, the skirt will be short until you add all of the ruffles. Without seeing what you have done, it is difficult to help, you can always email me pictures to shmillinery@gmail.cm
I am confused how you get 69" of fabric to gather to go around waist. Using these measurements and cutting out a half circle gives me the measurement of waist without gathers. Wouldn't you need to cut full circle to get enough to be able to gather the waist?
The waist is where you cut and mark your 11 inchs on the folded fabric, once opened out you have a large half circle, the 69" is the bottom of the half circle (the bottom of the skirt)
whoops. Result is actual waist circumference without extra for gathering. I do get the circumference of 69 inches on bottom of skirt. In video I saw that you were gathering waist. What I am getting is half circle with no gathers. Which is fine. I think I misunderstood the gathering step. I think I will go with that. I was going to make waist circumference bigger to gather but I am thinking not. By the way, this if for granddaughter. She absolutely loves the pattern!
