An easy DIY Knife making project, this Wharncliffe style 1.5 Inch blade wood carving knife. Using simple DIY tools to cut, shape and heat treat the blade, this could be an easy starter project for aspiring knife makers like myself. And the outcome is a fun whittling tools you can use straight away.

Tools I use in this video:
- 5" Vise
- Angle Grinder (cut off disk)
- Hammer
- Vise Grips
- Pliers
- Flat Screwdriver
- Power Drill / with old drill jig
- Water Stone
- Mini Forge with Propane Torch
- Various Files & Jeweler's Files
- Knife Beveling Jig
- Lots of Sandpaper 80/150/400/800/1000 Grit
- Canola Oil
- Acetone
- Boiled Linseed Oil
Materials:
- O1 Tool Steel, 1 X 1/8 X 3.5 Inch (3.2 / 2.54 / 90 mm) Flat Stock
- 4 mm Brass round stock
- Oak 125 / 35 / 20 mm (1.25 X 0.75 X 5 Inch)

Great job! Lots of great ideas in this video. I like you variations on the filing jig and forge. Hopefully you have a video on that filing jig.

Thank you buddy! I try to make do with what I have. I’ve been lucky to find a workspace with a knife maker and we share all the equipment which has been a real upgrade for me in most areas.

looks good, nice build, but for a really good carving knife The blade should be thinner!! and the blade should be at least 58 - 60 rockwell!!

What type of steel? Audio didn't hear instructions and tools much to loud for myself aa I have plenty of shop noise so didn't enjoy files grinding sawing noises Didn't learn anything. 😕 disappointed as far learning

Hi John, I try to share the knowledge I acquire with my viewers, this is one of my first videos. Perhaps one of my newer videos will be more informative. As for the the steel, it's GFS O1 steel, a very common oil tool steel. The list of materials is in the description.
