I'm a retired man and thought I would try this as a hobby. I watched this video and today I made a baby quilt out of flannel. It turned out really nice. This was a good way to start for a beginner. Thanks! Dennis

Rena Bartlett sorry I just seen this. I just posted a video on my page. I gave the baby quilt to my neighbor as a baby shower gift. That was four years ago. She’s had another baby since then and still uses it! I’ve made several now and really enjoy making them!

I made one of these with all flanellette...just wanted to say that the bigger you make the seams, the raggier it will be once you wash it a few times. If you only cut 1/4 inch, it won't fluff up so much. Of course, with bigger seams, you loose more fabric if you are making a big one. Also, I found that the smaller squares (6"), make it look more full. I used 8" and its fine, but it looks a little naked ! Love the Missouri Quilt tutorials !!!

Jenny I learn so much from you. It's nice to see someone who is left handed. I have struggled so much being a left handed person myself. I also like your relaxed attitude about not being perfect. I also like your magazines. Thanks again.

I LOVE rag quilts!! I have been saving my families old jeans for a few years now with the intention of making a rag quilt. =) I would like to include the back pockets in my quilt as well. Instead of the X in the middle I will just make a loop around the pocket to hold these particular squares together. Thank you so much for all of your tutorials!!

I recently made this Minkee rag quilt in the blue/white/green layer cake size with a blue sparkle flannel back - it came out great! I know that my little grandson will love it. This is my first "quilt" attempt and a good warm up for my next project. Thank you, Jenny, for your fun, inspiring, and easy to understand tutorials. :-)

Love the rag blankets you teach!.. This is a wonder way to introduce my teen to making blankets. Saved her outgrown jeans and this is a terrific way to get her "started" on sewing! Also, the "quilting as you go" instructions are absolutely wonderful. Binding teachings, wonderful! Thank you once again! You make it so easy since you go through every single step!

How did I miss this tutorial! I just got a huge piece of minky fabric and my daughter wants a quilt from it as it is her favourite colour! I was afraid to sew with it, but not now! As always thank you Jenny! Due to the pandemic and being a essential service worker! (Grocery Store) I must keep busy! I have almost completed The buildings blocks quilt! You made it easy! Stay safe and huge hugs from 🇨🇦

Loved the idea. It's fast and easy. The denim idea is wonderful. I think I would wash my denim quilt in a laundry mat. I don't want my machine being full of lint the first time it is washed. I loved your video. Will check out the stores in Sydney Australia to see what I can find to make the rag quilt.

I really want to say THANK YOU for this wonderful, clear and interesting video. Following your instructions, I made an ADORABLE quilt for my baby granddaughter who is due in March. My daughter's theme is Beatrix Potter, Peter Rabbit so I ordered the squares for a Peter Rabbit cloth book and used them combined with the MINKY fabric you demonstrated. The back is all vanilla colored Minky and the top is the story, in order with a book square, a minky, a book square, a minky across first row. Second row, all book squares and the next row is the alternating book square, minky squares. I washed the fabric ahead of time and I DID USE cotton batting for the middle. It is ULTRA soft, absolutely gorgeous and unique and the quilt tells a story! I never would have done it were it not for you video and the introduction to MINKY fabric. You provide a great service, thanks again!

Thank you so much! I'm planning my first rag quilt for my sister-in-law who's expecting, and the idea came to use Minky. I did a search to see if Minky would work and this came up. I had also been wondering about using Minky on one side and flannel on the other, since Minky is pretty expensive here in the UK. You answered both my questions!

Try both the Minkee by Benartex and the Cuddle by Shannon Fabrics, they have different properties which different people prefer. It actually isn't bad to work with in my experience, different, for sure, but not harder really. Try a 1/4 yard from either company and see how it goes together with cottons and such, we really like it!

@afkeyes I've been using my zigzag foot when I sew together my squares because it floats. IDK if that is the same thing or not, but it made this project a ton easier. Also, fold all your seams on the underside back so that it is pulled correctly by the feed dogs. If not you have to stop and check every seam to make sure it didn't curl up.

Jenny, wonderful tutorial! You make everything so clear and easy to understand. I'm all revved up to make these for two nieces expecting their first babies. My questions: What weight and composition of thread do you recommend for the Minkee/flannel pairing of fabrics? Any special needle? I've never sewn with Minkee before and am looking forward to it now that you've explained what to do. Regarding the denim/homespun rag quilts: What weight thread is needed here? Some of my reclaimed denim is stretchy; can that be used in the quilt? If a person used reclaimed plaid flannel from shirts would that work with denim as well, or maybe twill? Thank you so much for all your cheerful and very welcome advice and instruction.
