Great Video! When I make whoopie slings for my hammocks the fixed loop, locked brummel, end and the other end is adjustable with a 12 to 17 in bury with tag end exposed. You could use this to cinch down on the steps to prevent them from coming off due to slack when step off the aider. I think this would be an easier to build as well.
I know this an old video but damn I dont know why there's people bitching about the camera work. I watched this video and within 30 mins had a 2 step built and hanging in a tree. Worst part is dulling out scissors and fishing the bury through . Other then that it's pretty straight forward. Thanks man for uploading this.
If you put the bottom step tubing on, would you have fed one of your end loops through the a tube with a large enough ID? Or would you have fed the tubing onto the rope and then somehow still tied a locked brummel on the other end?
Do you think you could do the bury for the middle step downward? This would give you room to do your 10” bury. I don’t know if this would change anything being buried below the step, but just an idea...
This looks like the best way to make a multi step aider. I wish you would have had better video with close ups of how you do your splicing and knots. Much of the most important fastenings were out of the field of view and so far from the camera, we can't see how you were doing them. Have you, by any chance done a remake or considered doing one? If you could get a second person to operate the camera on a tripod or gimbal, it could all be covered. But it looks like an excellent end product
You asked a better way to get the loop back through the lock. I make my loop just large enough to fit over itself with no protective sleeve. After it’s done slide the protective sleeve over the eye and down the Amsteel then girth hitch the aider to the step. Slide the protective sleeve through the eye to be inside the hitch. Make sense?
