Using Amsteel Safely on your Mobile Hunting Setup. Amsteel Ropes, Amsteel aiders, and Amsteel rope mods are a great alternative to cam buckles or traditional style climbing rope, but there are some things you need to do to your mobile hunting setup to ensure your safety when using these products.
In this video, I go over how I set up my mobile hunting setup and climbing stick to safety use The USA from Sam the amsteel guy.

This should be required viewing. Thank you!! I was TEMPTED to try the rope attachment for my platform but I decided to stick with what came with it. I also use the stock strap attachment on my 1st stick. I found it to be easier to cinch it tight and I can get it higher up than when I use a rope mod.

I know people who do, but I would not run anything but a cam buckle on the stand or platform. It is a little harder to tie the first stick off if you are going for max height.

We use big 2in rope like that on tow boats. Make sure they arnt twisted or it cuts the breaking strength in half

I have been saddle hunting since 2007 but, been mobile for probably 20 plus years. For some reason i just cant stand the fiddle factor with amsteel. Also for me the weight difference between amsteel am buckle pull straps are not personally noticeable. There isnt much quicker method ( for me) thsn pull straps. Great video thanks brotha

Thank you. I was running the USAs on my new beast sticks this year and found that when I added the stealth strips to the sticks, it created too much friction to be able to lock them so I went back to cam buckles. I wont lie, I was a lot faster at setting sicks so I agree with the extra fiddle factor.

Yea take the traction out the steps !

I assume you're talking adding the the heat shrink on the steps which does not remove the traction. The heat shrink used has a very grippy material.

I round all edges with sandpaper. Never had any chafing rope

Chafing ropes 😂. Sanding the edges will do the trick for sure.

I wonder if you could get the used Amsteel ropes under magnification and see if there is any major degradation

That’s a lot of rope to inspect but it’s possible.

Why dosen't someone make a binder like they do for chains off a daisy chain system

I'm sure if you asked Sam over at the Amsteel guy, he would custom make you whatever you wanted.

I bet that amsteel lasts the life of the stick We used to run a wakeboard winch in the sandy river and beach with 500’ of 1/8 amsteel for several summers. Never had a rope break, shits prolly still on there

It's extremely durable, but the being that it doesn't do great on abrasive services like tree bark, that's where the concerns come in. Just make sure you're checking it often and taking the necessary precautions on sticks and stands so it doesn't get cut.

It heavily depends on how much you're using them. For me, I'm getting about 30 sits a season, and I do a lot of testing throughout the offseason so mine see a lot of use. It's more important to inspect them and if they show ear, replace them immediately. Hopefully, that helps. Thanks for watching!

@@MichiganAmBushOutdoors While I certainly can't knock you for being extra cautious, I do believe you'd be safe going a lot longer. I made 7/64" daisy chains in 2019 and I'm still using them. I hang and hunt about 60x per season on average. Some really gnarly rough barked trees too. I don't test much in the off season, but I reckon we're using them about the same amount. Mine show no real wear to speak of either. I've been thoroughly impressed. I should note: I never leave them out in the elements longer than my hunts and I clean them if they get real dirty, so that may aid in longevity. Whatever makes you feel safe though!

What's the cost of a broken arm, leg, back, neck?? And you can always use the thicker ropes like 3/16" or even 1/4" ropes along with taping around the buttons...

Hence why I have stuck with the included cam buckle straps 🤷
