It's just like a I. We are running to the cliff even though we know the fall will kill us. As a disabled person who suffers limitations and sometimes pain it is tempting but I try to keep any prosthesis or tech that helps me within my control. Only when we can specify and fully control our augmentation will we be free to advance.

This definitely a great start. And if you look at human history. This is a result of hundred s of years of research. I'm all for continuing this just to see what comes from it. Of course ppl will always fear possibilities in the beginning. I'm for anything rational that can help be better. But I wonder how this will effect ppls perspective of social issue in the future. I see a lot starnge outcomes happening. Who knows guess well have to see

The main problem I see with our time with evolving ourselves as the human condition indicates is how do we not get carried way. How can we avoid going past the point of no return when everything becomes egoism. In this video its primarily focused on physically impaired ppl. Which is great. They touch on the other side of things too. But the battle will be avoiding going to far. Overall I think there a major societal issues that need to be dealt with now. Unless scientist feel that thus progress will help change ppl. Because if our societal structure doesn't change soon. Were just going to living with the same issues only with bester tech more expensive.

I'm all for technology that enhances our lives.. but these ads need to discuss the dangers that these technologies present as well. These technologies are going to be developed no matter what.. so what we really need to discuss is the dangers so that people are aware and are able to take necessary precautions before its too late. I'm not talking about a robot take over. I'm talking about invasions of privacy, hacking, manipulation, etc. These are already concerns with our current technology, but they will be even more dangerous as the technological blade sharpens.
@TimeisaSquigglyLine

@Xplorer228
@Xplorer228 10 лет назад
***** Or your entire body. And once we start implanting brain chips in our heads to make us smarter, our minds will be hackable as well. My fear is that this technology is approaching faster than we can prepare for it.. Accepting brain chips in our heads seems like a stretch now but these chips will start out as wearables and the gradual build up towards that goal is what sustains our apathy and allows us to accept it without question.

it is the fear in people like you guys which slow down progression. where is the positivity?
@Xplorer228
@Xplorer228 10 лет назад
Oliver King And its the naivete in people like you who selfishly and blindly march forward despite obvious dangers. This isn't a question of "will it be dangerous" its a question of "how do we stop it from being dangerous". I'm just being realistic. In other words I'm not turning a blind eye to reality just so I can feel all warm and fuzzy inside. As of right now our governmental system is broken. Nearly everyone can agree on that. The Govt. has revolving doors that allow CEOs of large corporations to write their own laws. The Govt. is making itself more opaque while making the people more and more transparent under the pretext of national security. Whether national security is a good excuse for eroding our rights and whether it is intentional or not is beside the point so I won't get into that.. the point is that its happening and will continue to happen in this endless war on terror.. and as long as we have no safeguards against the abuse of power in this country it will be too tempting for corrupt psychopathic politicians to take advantage of it.
@Xplorer228
@Xplorer228 10 лет назад
Oliver King Its not just wearables that we should be concerned about. Police departments have already adopted drones for domestic surveillance and have been using them before guidelines can even be set up for their use. They are capable of seeing through walls and using facial recognition. The agencies are also considering equipping their drones with “non-lethal weapons" such as tasers, pepper spray, and rubber bullets. With all of the social unrest, protesting, etc, imagine how these will be used for riot control. The riot police and military are both plunging into the future of crowd control, inventing space-age weapons that won't kill you, but will make you wish they had such as The Pulsed Energy Projectile (which makes you feel like you are being burned alive), and The PHASR (aka Crowd-Blinding Rifle), and The Active Denial System (aka Massive Pain Ray). To top it all off they have already installed (Vegas) and are continuing to install Intellistreet smart street lights onto streets which have the capability of analyzing voices and physically tracking people, features that will aid the Department of Homeland Security in “protecting its citizens.” These are features which are admitted by the company behind them. My desire is merely that we start discussing the issues before it is too late. We can still develop these technologies without major consequences if we are proactive about fixing our government and raising awareness.

Professor Goldfarb just gave a talk here at Vanderbilt, and this issue was brought up. Right now a big hurdle is defining the reimbursement codes that Medicare, etc. use because these technologies don't fit into the current categories for traditional rehabilitation products. That's an ongoing effort before you'll start to see insurance companies really begin picking these devices up.

but WHAT exactly mean ''enhancing ourselves'' ? enhancing what we perceive? enhancing our bodies? is this all we really are? how about enhancing ones mind? is there technology for that ...?
@Xorgoph
@Xorgoph 10 лет назад
Not for now but there is nothing that says you won't be able to insert some sort of chip in your brain to learn and think faster. We need to understand the brain better though.When they say enhancing, it basically mean that, if for example, you think your arms are too weak or you want to run faster, you can choose to leave your biological limbs behind and replace them with artificial ones. And that goes for pretty much everything in your body, heart, lungs, eyes etc. When you see the technology that already exist, it doesn't seems very effective, but give 20-30 years to the technology to evolve and you'll see artificial limbs that will be more effective that what nature gave us and you won't even be able to tell the difference as it will feel and look the exact same. Once we will have reach that level of technology , i think i'll swap my body, or parts of it, for an artifical one, because let's be honest, our biological body is weak. But that's my opinion, some people won't "enhance"because it will not feel natural for them and that's understandable. Anyway, future is going to be awesome !

I would only put a computer inside someone if they aren't a normal person such as amputee or def or blind but if they are normal than I wouldn't turn them into a cyborg
@Xorgoph
@Xorgoph 9 лет назад
Connor Gordon In the beginning, only disabled people will have that technology but as i said once the technology evolves to the point it becomes better than a natural limb , then people will start "upgrading" their body And there is nothing wrong with that. See it's not you that will turn them into a cyborg, they will decide to become a cyborg.Let the people do what they want with their body. If we come to that level of technology, i wouldn't mind having an artificial body. My body is a just a vehicle for my brain, if given the opportunity to have a stronger one, even if it's not made out of flesh, i'll take it.

Tbh I only really see the point in tech that makes up for something that's been lost, like the prosthetics and the colour sensor, those were pretty cool. The vision/hearing "enhancers" just seem like an art project - nice to look at, but pretty pointless.
