This is part two in a series of videos with the Make Noise Morphagene. Here we look at quickly recording in live audio and making killer textures with it quickly. It's an impressive and inspiring unit for creating granular textural work over melodic content, and as you'll see in the video it's fast at doing so.
Every Monday I'll post a new video in the series that will look at recording samples, creating amazing textures quickly, a range of the awesome FREE Reels from a range of artists on the Make Noise Freesound page and plenty more. Gorgeous. I still need to treat myself to one at some point. I have the Phonogene and Clouds so have been holding back for the moment, but it's so very tempting :-)

I am in the process of building a DIY case and drilling the side cheeks and getting everything lined up is taking a while. Once the case gets built, its game on. Till then all I can do is drool over it on Modular Grid www.modulargrid.net/e/racks/view/545257

Really sounds nice. Between this and Rainmaker, which would you recommend getting to come up with complex ambient textures from 'basic' sounds? I have sampling capability with my STS at this point as well.

Rainmaker is much more designed for that specific purpose, wouldn't you think?

I don't know. You can do similar granular processing using short splices with Morphagene as well.

Well to my knowledge the Rainmaker doesn't really do anything thats truly granular outside of pitch shifting. Maybe you mean like comb filtery sounds? Either way, the Rainmaker is a much easier way to end up with cloudy, diffused textures just by the fact that its 16 taps. You can probably do similar things on the morphagene by layering over time, but it's hardly instant.

Yeah ,I see a lot of ambient patches with a Morphagene involved and not a whole lot with Rainmaker.

Thats because they add reverb afterwards ;-) To simplify: If you have good soundsource for your sounds get a rainmaker. If you have good reverbs delay effects and dont need modular control on those get Morphagene

Still my favorite module! A question though. If you're only doing one splice, do you have to hold "record" and press "splice" or can it just be "record"? My experience has been that it can be done either way. Thanks!

How would you compare morphagene and arbhar in terms of sound? I already have a strymon. magneto and I've been doubting between the arbhar and morphagene. I mainly want to make ambient soundscapes from samples ( from the tiptop audio one ) .
