As a huge fan of Make Noise, I own most of your stuff. My entire synth is based around the workflow of your modules. With that said, would you recommend this if I already have the old design? Should I upgrade? Will this work with the new cv bus thing you're coming out with?
Waz Hey thanx and glad you are enjoying the modules. I would say you should upgrade if you need some extra space or a master clock. But for random voltages, your OG MN WB is every bit as good.
I'm an absolute beginner. In the beginning of the video the stepped output makes different tones. Is there something else connected to produce these tones? When I patch mine directly to the output it doesn't produce tones but different rhythmical blips and blops. What do I do wrong...?
The stepped random output is patched to a pitch input on the VCO. One of the VCO's outputs is what is monitored and what you actually hear. The Wogglebug is used to change its pitch; the Wogglebug is not being monitored directly. Hope that makes sense!
0oCalumo0 For that functionality, look to the Malekko Noisering, also based on a Grant Richter design (two stepped random outputs, no smooth or woggle or random gates or VCO outs). The Ego/Id pot on the Wogglebug controls the range of the output, the recursiveness of the pattern, and (if there is something in the Ego jack) the amount of randomization applied to the input.
If this module is so particularly musical for a random generator, why was there such lack of examples of musicality in this demo? NOt enough examples that demonstrate order among the chaos. No examples of rhythmic or melodic application. I want to hear some woggles in time. Wild, crazy and random yes, but also in time to some degree! Surely someone could do better than this demo.
it's make noise, what are you expecting? they're about making noise and playing and experimenting. I wouldn't come to one of walker's videos looking for a pop tune
