Hi, I stumbled across your channel and it's exactly what this newbie to cosplay construction needs. Brilliantly explained concepts and skill developments! Thank you very much for putting the time and effort into these videos!
When you get to the other side of the blade and are pulling it toward you, it looks like you're holding it at a much wider angle than when pushing it away. For example, at 4:24 you hold it almost 90° to the sharpener. Isn't it best to try to match the original bevel angle (~20° said some other RU-vidr) on both sides of the blade? -Asking for a friend.
forevermy hardest issues with foam builds is 1) making clean bevel cuts without needing expensive machines and 2) as I live in an apt finding a glue for foam that is low odor, as I do not want to go outside and have everyone stare at me as I apply contact cement just to avoid sticking up the place for a couple of days.
Thank you, these are both excellent questions and I've added both of them to my list to make videos on! :) In the mean time have you heard of the Lost Wax RU-vid channel? He works with EVA and only uses low odor and no odor glues and has some videos that might be helpful for you :) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KqUxAOILUnM.html
Brilliant! I have heard this from others as well, it will probably take a couple videos to talk through some good tips on this but I am adding it to my list with a 🌟 next to it. :)
@@CosplayApprentice I keep a set of xacto knives and mini chisels together in a travel case with 3 sharpeners between them collectively. It's a nice little set. 12 chisels, 12 xacto handles of various sizes and shapes
Thank you so much!!! I’m a hobbyist & artist and I get frustrated how quickly X-Acto knife blades get dull and they become costly after a while. I get those “gold ones”. Wonder if this might work with throwaway razor blades??? So that’s my question however I can try and GENTLY see what happens. Extremely helpful!!!👍🏼🙏🏼👍🏼 I have never thought about this & wondered if there is a way; how do I do it??? A RU-vid video popped up when exploring PVC foam sheets. Extremely durable and strong yet as light as foam board. They’re also waterproof yet hard enough you can drill through them, nail, cut with an X-Acto knife blade that will cause it to break when bending. Have not bought one yet but they come as thin as 1mm”. Hope this tidbit helps you too!!! Check it out!!!😊
Totally, same here, it was ridiculous how quickly one can go through blades and it definitely adds up. Hmmm, I haven't thought to try it with shaving blades. That might be hard to do with all the tiny blades they have. :/. Sounds awesome, was it called Sintra?
Thanks for the heads up we will work on that:) I'll hop on right now and see what I can find. :) Do you have any recommendations for connecting to a cell phone?
I've been using this technique for 5 years and it continues to work for me and the blade stays plenty sharp. If it ever dulls I use a super high grit blade sharpener to bring it back and then keep it honed. Have you had problems with trying this technique?
Thanks for the heads up, yeah if you type in honing steel it should give you what you need. I like to have a smooth rounded end on the handle as I can use it to press into the foam and use it to help shape it. :)
Hahaha, right!?! What's his deal. ;). Thanks for the advice. :). Luckily I've improved my production quality significantly since this video. You should check out one of my newer videos that's not a live stream. :). Thanks for watching!! :)
