What's up Woodworkers! Today we're back to the dresser build! I'm making shaker style panels for the sides of the dresser. Because of that I had to learn how to use a router table with special tongue and groove style router bits! It was my first time and I wanted to share my experience with you all, as well as offer the tips and tricks I used to do it!
We also had to cut rabbits into the center panel to fit into the grooves along the rails and styles. Another thing I've never done! I used the router table to do it but here is a link to a video from another Wood worker that I think offers a lot of great ways to cut rabbits depending on your particular setup!

Buy a sheet of foam insulation to put under your plywood while using a circular saw, and set your depth so it barely cuts into the foam…no falling pieces

Honestly the fact that I haven't done this yet is surprising. I see people doing that all the time. I just hate to keep a large piece of foam board in the shop. But I know it makes life much easier. One day soon I'll upgrade to a track saw and then I'll be sure to take advantage of the foam board!

I don't think you're supposed to glue the panels into the grooves. they're supposed to float freely to accommodate for seasonal wood movement. theres little ball things that you put in that hold them in place so they feel snug but allows them to move. great video otherwise. the music is pretty loud. had it cranked up to hear what you were saying and the music came on and woke up the pets in the next room. Is that the 7485 table saw? it says you can't use a dado stack in it, but you can safely use it but only a 3/8" dado stack.

It’s actually a DeWalt 7491RS, so a bit bigger than the 7485. I’ll have to look into dado compatibility. Thanks for the tip though! I do need to better balance the music/voice audio ratio! I’ll continue to fine tune that. As for the center panel glue up, I’ve seen that if you use a solid wood center panel then yes, you want to avoid gluing it into the grooves of the rails/styles. However, since my center panels are plywood with a walnut veneer, I believe I should be safe from seasonal expansion/contraction. But time will tell!
