Im 5'8" shooting guard. My handles are ok, my shooting is pretty good but my weakness is my left hand. Alot of people people are trying out but most of them are just show offs/hogs I rarely get the ball sometimes because I'm a team player.

Hey, I am 6'1" post player, 155 pounds, and 14 years old. I'm very strong with the ball, have decent handles and a good jump shot, and when I play with all my friends that are good I compete with them and do well. However, when I'm in front of coaches and trying out, when I get the ball, a lot of the time I freeze up and forget my post moves. What should I do?

Coaches love guys who can and will rebound. Not everyone will be as shooter. Give it all you have. EFFORT is a key!

I don't know what to do in tryouts because they only pick the tall people even if they're horrible all around. Our team always loses every game but they still don't change the way they do tryouts plz help me coach!

My schools the same way. In tryouts we literally just do scrimmages and king of the court. I dominated in both. Show well and finished in the paint over bigger players. But they didn't take me as their PG(4'11 in 9th grade. Short I know.). Instead they took a taller player who's 5'6 but couldn't shoot or finish or dribble anywhere near as good as I could.

So I have tryouts this monday and i am getting kind of discouraged. I am trying to get on my high school freshman team. I played in the summer with the team and the coaches sort of know me but now i feel very nervous because i don't really stand out. There are about 25 dudes trying out and 13 make it. Im 5'9" and i can shoot pretty well, but i am not that strong or quick. Any advice?

i can't wait to go to our school basketball tryouts tomorrow!! i got rejected TWICE on the team and what i've learned from last year's tryouts is to try not to show off, don't let pressure get in to you, and don't let your emotions cloud your judgement. i will bring my A-GAME tomorrow and convince the coach that i deserve to be on the team!!

Coach, my school is having basketball tryouts soon (Gr.7 + 8's), but it's snowing :( I really want to practice, but I can't go outside and public basketball courts are always full! What do you think I should do to practice?

Keep watching videos of basketball games over and over and over again. And maybe do Ball handling practices at home.

YES!!!! Relax!!! Most of the guys there are just as nervous as you are. Nerves are really our fear that we will screw up. When you focus on this fear, you usually screw up. RELAX!!!!!

Brianna, don't be scared!!! Be PREPARED!!!! Go over this video and select several things that you can exhibit during the try outs. Oe thing we recommend is to show "EFFORT" in everything you do. Good luck!

They might! Size does affect where coaches tend to play you, but sometimes they don't follow that as a rule. That may be affected by what you can do!

The list is endless! Leadership, decision making, creating for your team mates, breaking down the defense, being a good team mate, recognizing defenses, EFFORT, outstanding ball skills, etc, etc. These are just a few!

Thanks Coach ! I made the team ! they loved my hustle getting every loose ball even though I'm the tallest, They liked my versatility, My point guard like handles, 3point shooting , Low post game and leadership. I learned most of my low post moves on your videos ! Thank you so much!

This video really helped me a lot. I went from not making my junior high team to making a freshman team in high school. My suggestions for tryouts is to not try to make every flashy play. Just stick to the basics and work hard leading up to the tryouts. If I can make it, you can to!

@ShotScience Well this is what their deal is. Someone from the football team found out about my heart condition and told the coach. I made the team but I can't actually play the whole season because its to risky until next year.. So im not playing but... Im getting recruited or drafted to a travel ball team in a few months! Thank you so much for the tips they helped out drastically! I will be right there next year!
