juanbargoalkeeper just look up Make Total Destroy Nolly and it should be one of the first videos. Thumbnail is the bass neck and it looks like the video is sideways.
Nolly is a beast! I mixed one of the Periphery songs in Nail the Mix, and was floored at his playing and tone. It's awesome to have such talented players changing the game. He sure doesn't fit Glenn's rule #2 lol.
Tangalang22 He still writes with them, but he's doing his own thing for GGD. If you watch the P4 documentary, he explains how it works. Long story short, he just doesn't actively tour with them. Since that's the case, they have the pre-recorded bass tracks so the mix isn't screwed up.
The pick sounds more clear and satisfying to me in this particular style of playing i don't get guys who finger style everything just for the sake of it.
I’ve never heard the instrumental version of this song. So much detail I’ve never noticed before. Not to mention the complexity of the bass part jeez! What an incredible musician you are!
I mean him using a pick and how he attacks the string is a large part of his sound, he did a talk with Scott's bass lessons about it, its definitely worth checking out
I would try to double thumb this i love the slap stuff he did there he is a phenomal bass player he writes a lot of music its a pleasure to listen to playthroughs like these bass is very essential in metal music
I started listening to periphery about 2 months ago and haven’t been able to listen to anything else. Nolly explains that he fits in the mix with Misha and Jake like one big instrument that just blasts your ears off. Their soft stuff is great and Spencer is just the icing on the cake. Definitely check them out if you’re a fan of heavier/melodic stuff. Thanks for listening to my rant.
I've wanted a Dingwall for years now. Specifically the transparent white gloss Combustion that shows off the wood grain. Life doesn't give many breaks though.
Sikth, the criminally unknown forebears of djent and a band that Periphery are heavily influenced by , make fantastic use of slap and tap in odd time signatures and their bassist, James Leach, is brilliant! The outro of “Skies of the Millenium Night” is a great example
Nobody talks about the immediate transition from intricate picking to slapping. He doesn’t even toss the pick. And then he goes straight into chugging again. This man is actually not human.
I would like to start playing an instrument. I really like the battery. And I'm really close to getting started. But videos like this lead me to the electric bass, like a magnet ... 🤯
I was super bummed when Nolly left Periphery. I dunno how they'll find a replacement. He's an amazing bassist. Nolly and Geddy Lee are the reasons I want to learn bass. If I could ever have a quarter of this dude's talent, I'd be pretty stoked.
He's still very much a part of the band, but he just no longer tours with them. He has continued to play all the bass parts since Periphery III and is heavily involved in the mixing/production side of things. It is a bit weird that they play to his backing track live though! I agree regarding his talent, no questions, but his tone is also legendary... it sounds so massive but yet it cuts through the mix excellently. Love Nolly.
@@ChrisS-mk1yr I thought I heard he wasn't going to be writing anymore after P4. And if you're not touring anymore, either, and you're just producing, you're not really *in* the band anymore, are you?
You know ive been watching some videos about this cover, some with other tunings on the upper strings but keeping the low A but with some differences on the tabs, at the end dude… your playing sound is amazing specially your notes they sound for some reason SO GOOD! And what makes it’s even more special is that I own a MM sterling bass 😳 keep it up my man it was just PERFECT 👌 btw just a little bit curious, what gauge of strings where you using for this tone ?
Thanks Scott!! The way this is lit, the shadows of the strings...it's very cool! Adam is a beast for sure, too bad the guitars get all the credit in this band, half the time they're stepping all over the bass.
@@speckon Yeah. He's actually an absolute monster of a guitar player, and some of my favorite Periphery riffs are Nolly riffs, (Omega intro for example)
@@speckon It's so true though, if you look at his old RU-vid videos from about 10 years ago he was already nailing Sikth songs and they are a god tier band from a technical point of view. The man has immense talent.
That's what has always put me off joining, I'm a pretty broad minded player and enjoy playing solo stuff but there's only so much Jaco, Thundercat and staccato Jazz skiddley-bop chord progressions I can handle.
