Hate to tell you, Lola, but we wore our hair in a center part in the 70’s and early 80’s. Like the song goes, everything old is new again! That might be a fun segment for you guys to do - which fashion trends have repeated themselves over time.

I can't see a center part without thinking either "Flower Child" or "Weird 1830s-1880s Frumpy Jane Eyre dog-eared hairstyles." Personally, I don't care about fashion. I'll never wear a center part because I look like Morticia when I do. I don't need to see the world through Goth Curtains.

As an elder Millennial, I came into makeup right as the era changed, & 1 thing I do really miss is how simple + "fresh" late '90s/early 2000s base was; you did concealer, then foundation (probs w. your fingers), subtle blush, & then powder only where you got greasy* - & the aim was to look natural. Funnily enough, Lola's stripped-back look is pretty close to what was fashionable then. I can't get used to the modern glamazon ultra-matte/super-dewy 6+-step-base dichotomy. Don't get me wrong, I think girls look beautiful in it, it's just that sometimes it gets all a bit Uncanny Valley - especially when filters are added to the mix, lol. And seeing 14 year olds down at the grocery store - in the middle of the day - in the sort of hyper-dramatic, drag-inspired eye-looks w. false lashes & the lot, which we would only have dreamed of wearing to our high-school formal or _maybe_ out clubbing, is something I may never get used to.😅 Damn little sophisticates, get off my lawn.😂 *This video has shown me that this may have been either location-dependent, or maybe the difference is in the fact that Mrs Holderness is talking sort of mid-'90s whereas I'm referencing the very turn of the century, so it's possible the trend for the desired "finish" evolved to be less matte in that time.

In the 90's I had two extremes for my lipsticks....it was either that frosty pale pink or really dark brown (like I just wiped chocolate on my lips brown lol). I learned how to do my makeup through Seventeen magazine and music videos lol. I remember teaching myself how to do a winged liner by watching Sweet Sensation's video for, "If Wishes Came True"...rewind, pause, rewind, pause and quickly learned that black liquid eyeliner made me look like a racoon because I didn't wear enough eyeshadow to kind of offset the harshness of that liner lol. Ironically enough I'm a Makeup Artist now haha...I've learned the errors of my ways 😂. This was such a great video haha. I think a mom/daughter shopping trip is definitely something that needs to be done! Hugs to guys ❤️

That hairbandcomb thing, loved it despite the pain it gave me, much like my then boyfriend 🤣🤣 Ahhahahaa I wouldn't go back to that. Love this!!!Both mother and daughter look absolutely beautiful. It just goes to show the different styles and trends and changes over the years. In the 70s and 80s, we used great lash mascara by Maybelline, and Maybelline kissing potion lip gloss. Preferably bubblegum flavor. In the 90s, I simply could not let go of the frosty blue eyeshadow. I had no one to teach me proper make up application, so I just went by Magazine and my peers. It was an awkward time. My daughter shows me how to apply makeup now and it’s very much as the daughter does in this segment. What shades are being used for the lips? It’s a nice natural look. I honestly want to get rid of all of my old make up and start over.

Yeah I remember those days. We didn't have sephora or access to high end makeup, makeup brushes and no social media. We used those sponge applications. Foundation was very limited in colors so we looked pale and unmatched lol. I also over tweezed my eyebrows I think everyone did to look like those famous young celebrities like Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stephany etc. I wore dark brown eyeshadow with thick winged liquid eye liner, dark mocca lips, I never overlined my lips on the outer corners never liked it and I wore my hoops, comb hairband, or butterfly clips. I always used to get compliments on my makeup, but it was like a though girl look. We had so many skin care options in the drugstore aisle, but they all sucked and smelled like alcohol hated the astringent. Nobody used a primer back then, no eye creams etc. I also loved my glossy lip balms, chopsticks that smelled like candy.

I graduated high-school in 97. I did some of this stuff but not all of it. I used eyeliner around my lips (sometimes) but then followed with a plum shade of lipstick or a deep berry red. I used lip liner normally though. I also tried to match my foundation to my skin. I used concealer that was too light under my eyes probably. But I did full makeup with foundation and everything. I look back and it does look good even today. Still it may have been a bit lighter than it should have been. However, I tanned far too much and didn't bother buying something else to fix that. I read a lot about make-up starting in middle school and combined techniques. I still do that. I never follow trends but use what works no matter what decade it comes from!

OMG, I totally used pancake makeup too! Mine was in a black plastic tube thing that you could twist the bottom and it would push the foundation up. My goal (because I was prone to breakouts in high school) was to make my face look as smooth as possible. I also used the blue eyeliner that you mentioned in a previous video and I probably had some of the blue mascara too. I mean, c'mon, color was cool. :) I would curl my lashes AFTER putting mascara on (yes, I know that is terrible and no, I don't know how I still have eyelashes!) and I used eyeshadows that came in a long metal box and had all of maybe six colors. Oh, the '90s were so fun. :)

Great video 😊Ohhh yeah i remember 95 97 matte... for the air brushed flawess look.. mac studio fix.. all in one pressed foundation. It was hard to match to your skin tone with drugstore foundations with no testers... so moving to the city.. using mac test to your actusl skin tone. The flash and the zero lines on face from the foundation... it was like the photo filter of thr 90s We got our make up yips from pages of seventeen magazine as teens and glamour allure..etc. no youtube tutorials. But there were step by step pics.. sime looks looked better than others. Grateful that msgenta and frosted pink lipstick of 80s is gone I barely wear make up now If at all mac concealer after ivr moisturized face...my version of the primer... then concealer seems to smooth out better snd not so cakey. Powder blush doesnt sray on si cream blush in dots snd blend.. good on lips n lids too in terra cotta Looks natural.. and bit of mascara. But make up days are few n far between now. Concealer helps brighten up my dark circles. Cream bronzer on top of cheeks and on forhead..wherever sun hits.. sunkissed look.

I grew up as a teen between the years of 2001-2007. I can testify that my makeup routine was very basic. But! I did use bareMinerals foundation in my mid-late teens. I preferred to use organic products besides using for example mayballine, even though I used that before coming to using more “natural” Ingredient makeup line. For my lips I would use lipstick then apply gloss over it. My eyeshadow was neutral or at times I would use blue or pink shade. I didn’t wear blush at all. I would use a lip line to fill in my brows and wear black mascara (not waterproof either). 😜☺️

I’m freaked out by how much products teens nowadays feel they need to be “made up.” The internet is doing so much harm. My face moisturizer is my primer. Then goes 60 SPF sunscreen. Then I have to camouflage the white cast. So BB cream it is. Peach eyeshadow to make my white cast eyelids look human again. Finish with Shea butter lip balm. And voilá! My natural look is finished. Anyone offended that I didn’t care to camouflage my teen acne scars can cry about it.
