Make way for a Snowball Viburnum - In this video I take out a Chindo Viburnum and replace it with a Chinese Snowball Viburnum. The Chindo Viburnum was going to get way to large for the spot is was in.

I think I need one of each of these now! But it’s good hearing you recommend removing things we don’t like, I have a lot of guilt taking out good plants even when I don’t like them.

I planted three snowball viburnum in 2020 and they are huge already. We bought them because they get huge and will make a gorgeous privacy screen. If you keep up on the pruning it'll be a beautiful tree shape.

My grandmother had one on the side of her house when I was a child, but probably the larger European variety. I thought it was magical, such huge blooms had to come from a fairytale.

I had no idea viburnums could grow so large! Glad you have someone to gift it to. Nce. I have a Prague and snowball viburnum. Yesterday I purchased a Chicago Lustre viburnum. Love the flowers and berries for pollinators and birds.

Thanks for mentioning that it is a sterile specimen! Snowball viburnums are highly invasive in my area. Yours is a beauty!

I have a snowball vibernum - last year all the leaves were eaten off by some little critter & when I treated it, I thought I’d killed it. It’s come back strong & grown almost a foot since last year. Just pray I see snowballs this year!

There's a tree that grows around my town, high desert 8a, that everyone calls Chinese Snowball. I think you've found it! Mystery solved. Now I know what to actually look for at the nursery. Thank you ❤️

I found one on clearance last year but couldn't get it in the ground until now. It's bright green and full of buds so I'm excited to see it bloom this year!

I found one alone on clearance at Lowes two years ago. We planted it in one spot and didn't like it there so we moved it about 6 months later. It grew 2 feet last growing season and was covered in blooms. Can't wait to see it bloom this year.

As the Spring roles in, I am most interested in the color combination in your garden and if they will look the same in my zone. I am planning to redo my front flower bed with more structural plants first, evergreens and ornamental and then add in my perrinials or annuals as I go. I am looking for more year round interest

Got my Eastern Snowball last season and it didn't bloom at all. This year, its got a lot of small lime green blooms already. Looking forward to what it's going to look like this summer.

Viburnum opulus is a good one as well. A lot of variation in that plant across the trade

So excited for this! Got several of these to place around the yard and eventually limb up into trees. I think I have a problem with white flowering plants...snowball viburnums, limelight hydrangeas, and Natchez crape myrtles 🤣 I need some color! Thanks for the video!

Me too! I have 3 Chinese snowballs, 2 reiflers dwarf, and a David viburnum. Limelight, Incredible and blushing bride hydrangeas and white crepe myrtles. I do have a good number of pink lorapetalums too though.

I just bought two European snowball viburnum I’m hoping to trim/train like a tree too but have been looking for a good video on doing that without hurting it. How long to wait, how deeply to trim the soft shoots now or wait later? It’s in a three gallon pot. If you see this and have suggestions, I’d love to hear your expertise!

I love the snowball viburnum, it should look fantastic planted in that spot! I need to plant something with a similar growth habit, to add privacy between my yard and the neighbor's house, zone 5a. Do you have any suggestions for shrubs or small trees, that I can use? The area is shaded, except when the sun is directly overhead, and the soil is mostly clay. Help!

Jim when built in 2004 planted lorapetulum in front of house not realizing they would grow so high. They are beautiful but way to over grown about 10 ft high. I would love to cut back to grown and try to control better. Will it kill them whats your thoughts live in chatham county love your videos Cynthia

Hi Jim, I am in zone 7b in the high elevation desert of NM. I just bought a snowball viburnum at Lowe’s and planted it today. I am covering it with a plastic bin at night because our temps are getting to down to 28-32. Our day temps are high 50’s for the next week. Is this going to be okay?

I planted a snowball viburnum two years ago and the first year did pretty good this year. I only got one blue and the tree just looks pitiful. It’s in a part. Shade area and gets plenty of water, so I don’t know what the problem is.

Jim, does the Chinese Snowball Viburnum suffer from the viburnum leaf beetle? We eventually had to toss a beautiful Eastern Snowball Viburnum because each year the viburnum leaf beetle would defoliate the entire plant.

Hi Jim, - I planted one of these last fall; hubs “pruned “ it; now I have blooms forming Lowe on the shrub, but many taller shoots without blooms- should I trim the taller shoots back?

In one of his earlier videos he said he would take his down by about half after it finished flowering. I have 4 crazy long branches on mine which is about 2 years old. I will take those long branches down by half after the plant finishes blooming this year.

No, I put down compost in all these beds and my old mulch is getting mixed in as well. It may help, but I just can't see a difference. I would recommend it to a retail customer just so I know they would water at least once🤣.

You can actually use Eastern Snowball. Also Viburnum dentatum and Viburnum prunifolium and Viburnum trilobum.

Such an amazing "hydrangea"!!! :P I have three of them I want to plant along a fence and tree form them as well! How far should I plant them? Your Sunshine ligustrum is gorgeous. I planted three along the foundation last Spring and it has lost 2/3 of its leaves, I'm in zone 7B. I thought it's an evergreen, any tips? BTW....I love your channel!

I think it's a Carolina Midnight Lorapetalum. It's definitely a Loropetalum but I'm not positive the variety. They are warmer climate plants for sure.

To keep the macrocephellum as a tree form might be more of a challenge than you realize....they don't like to stay that way....

An irrigation shovel? A real shovel could have that plant out with a max six cuts and not beat it to death. Bonus, sharpen the shovel blade with a grinder and it cuts like a razor.

To the incredible hulk, Robert Brown, more often the narrow, sharp and light weight shovel does the better job and it's easier on the back and knees.

Shouldn't be spraying anything in the garden really, has a very negative impact on wildlife but then I'm all about having a garden that is a haven for wildlife.
