Follow video instructions and enjoy your very own homemade Vanilla Extract in a few months. Make an extra bottle so you never run out. It’s less expensive and tastes so so much better.
I have enjoyed using my own vanilla in all my baking treats for a long time. Now here is the recipe for you to begin making your own. It’s really more of a technique than a recipe.
You will need:
Vanilla Beans
Bourbon or Vodka
Glass jars with lids (be sure to mark the date)
Cover beans completely with alcohol.
Set in cool, dry and dark place.
Shake gently for the first few days, then every other week is fine.
Once a month after that.
In about 4 months it should be ready even if there is a tiny bit of alcohol smell + but there should also be a very strong vanilla scent and lots of floating beans.
Save your beans and just refill.
ENJOY!!

For some reason I'm obsessed with vanilla video while my first batches are going. I love that you don't pretend to know everything about "THE" way to make it because so many vidoes so you have to do this this way or that way. I've got some going now with vodka and some with Captain Morgans. I can't wait to see if there's a difference and which I prefer. I also like that you keep it going that's my plan as well.

Thanks! I have been making my vanilla for years! I use the really big Mason jar; 1/2 gallon. I put my beans in it and fill the jar up with the vodka. I pour it in a smaller container when ready. The beans are exposed. I have never had any issue. May Jesus continue to bless you and your family

I've been making homemade vanilla for about 3 yrs. and it's delish. I use vodka, and the only difference is I split all my half lengths of the vanilla bean. I don't think there is any right or wrong way to do it, and I like the little specs of the vanilla bean in whatever I bake. The hardest part is in the aging process of several months or even a year.....but worth it! Ina Garten, The Barefoot Contessa, has a big vanilla jar that she's kept going for over 30 years she said! It will be interesting for you to test the difference in taste with your bourbon one when it's ready! :) ~~M~~

Good morning guys!! So wonderful to hear from you. Yes the wait is hard! The only reason I do not split all the beans is because I read that they break down so much quicker then just leaving them whole. That’s why I only do a few. Now I could be wrong but it was from a very good source. Also all the beans come out on the first go round🤷‍♀️. Does that make sense to you?? After all the research I’ve done I finally said ok let’s just do this. I could be right or I could be wrong. But my first batch 8 months ago was a huge success for me. I’m so glad you enjoy doing this. It’s really fun. I’ll look up Ina. Thanks for that scoop😊Lord bless, Darlene

Oh boy!!! Now I HAVE to get some grade B's to try this!!! I had previously gotten some Madagascar vanilla beans (grade A) a few months ago, but never did anything with them. I just bought more vanilla this past week and it was almost $10 for 2 oz!! That's what I get for not starting those other beans when I got them!! Lol!! Live and learn!! Thank you for sharing Darlene!! Have a great day! Tina 🌺

I can literally say he specializes in chicken breast (a bit too spicy for me, but he makes mine milder) - delicious. The stove, oven, his rice cooker, his air fryer, pots, etc were always cooking up tasty food😋 That vanilla recipe looks divine I shall try making it for sure! Thanks for showing. 😇 Sam

I’ve got some going (3) that I’ll be using as a gift (well some of it, the rest will be for us lol) but the 3 I have going is: 1 in rum, 1 in bourbon, & 1 in vodka. I started them in late 2020 & in mason jars too (yep, same type of lid lol) & have been shaking them every month or so (I keep them in the dark part of my pantry so that light doesn’t get to them). The longer they sit in the alcohol, the more decadent they are supposed to be… So it should be some fantastic presents!!!

Why don’t you semi-slice all do the beans?
@Souperat60
@Souperat60 2 года назад
Hi Autumn. I heard that if you slice all of your beans it’s possible that they would break down very quickly and you could lose all the vanilla beans in your first batch and there would not be enough left to flavor another jar of vanilla. Someone suggested slicing just a few and to leave the rest whole. It made sense to me-and it has worked with mine so far🤷‍♀️. I hope that helps you. I should have explained that.

I case one cuts through the pod can you just strain the liquid out once it's ready to give as a gift?
@Souperat60
@Souperat60 2 года назад
Nooooo way!!!! The good stuff is the itty bitty vanilla bean specks that float around in the liquid making the vanilla. I opened just a few of them simply to get the vanilla started a bit. Those specks inside the beans are gold!!😊. But you do not have to slice any of them. Just cut them in half and put in jar. You will still have excellent vanilla my friend.

@@Souperat60 I’ve just found that it gives a deeper vanilla flavor when the suggested oz are used instead of flavored alcohol - it’s more science then anything but we all have our ways and suggestions- I prefer to split and cut all my beans then dehydrate them when extract is finish in 4-6 mo. Then use the powder for vanilla sugar and salt - blessings to you as well

I never slice but one bern. The rest I keep whole. The sliced ones I find break down and can’t be used with more alcohol. They just turn to mush. But yes to that wonderful vanilla sugar. It’s the best for frosting.

Im not a fan of the mother jar concept plus I split all of mine for a faster extract so the alcohol gets into the fibers of the pods and gets all the vanillin out of them - I like the idea of fresh beans, I also like to try diff types of beans from diff regions and the co op groups I have found have amazing pricing plus they have lots of options from all over the world - it’s a fun hobby for sure and the family is loving all the experiments with the diff flavors
