If we take one lesson from Steve's plentitude of knowledge, it's that without a strong gestural foundation all of the fancy rendering is useless. Thank you Steve for sharing this wisdom.

Question. How many hours a day/ week does Steve study figure drawing, illustration, etc before he works on his own illustrations ,commissions and comic book pages. In other words, how is a Steve Rude work day broken down?

Excellent advice and demonstration,Steve! Pencil layout is like the foundation of a house, the structure has to be there in the rough shape! Keep up the great work!⚡️🎯👋

Just from observing, I see that the pitch of your drafting table allows you to move a lot more freely and draw from the shoulder, but with your experience, you're still able to commit to lines once the gesture is complete. I am going to have to try that with layouts and then maybe lower the table to render the work if necessary. I am no where near your level Master Rude, but hopefully one day I will be. Thanks for this video.

This is reverse engineering, but for an original drawing you have to start with coming up with the gesture, which this exercise doesn't help with.
