Modern air travel can feel like a hassle, but you can make it enjoyable by opting for longer stopovers. I'm currently in Istanbul, midway between two long-haul flights. This city is perfect for a layover, with easy access by taxi or public transit to many highlights on foot, by ferry, or by local transportation. Istanbul, straddling Europe and Asia, is one of my favourite cities.
Many European cities have downtown areas connected to airports by public rail, just 10 or 15 minutes away. So, next time you're planning a long trip, consider extending your stopover to a full day.
Take the opportunity to catch fresh air, stretch your legs, and visit a new city. Turkish Airlines even offers free overnight accommodation for connecting flights with more than a day in between. Plan a stopover and make your journey more enjoyable!
