Dude thanks for putting this together. I'm still trying to get my head around the IR stuff and the Radar specifically. I get the impression that the IR gives you a sense of air being moved in the room from what you're playing.

Exactly, it’s like it adds the sound of the room to cab sim. Also, to me, part of the sound of a real speaker is almost a percussive sound with your pick attack. It’s like the speaker That’s something that no cab sim had really done before IRs.

@@Chucksguitargeekery I ended up picking up the Mooer Radar and I'm so happy with it. Do you have any go to IRs you'd recommend? So far I'm just surfing the stock ones

@@Two-Eyed_Boy nice! The one I use 99% of the time is the stock Kitty 1x12, I haven’t even tried loading 3rd party. I remember reading at some point it’s a Celestion V-type speaker in a Badcat combo. I use the SM57 mic sim on it, to me it’s just a very balanced sound.

I’m doing the same thing with my old modeler. The tone is unreal! Only difference is I use the Johnson JStation and a NUX mini studio. I recorded the IRs from my cabs and use them. Perfect for practicing and recording late at night! If you have a solid state head and get noise complaints at home, you should get an IR loader. Once you record the IR of your cab, just load it and run the DI from your head into it. The sound is identical! Blew my mind. If you got tube amp, you will also need a good reactive attenuator. Those are more expensive but claim to sound the same. Beware, passive/resistive attenuators do not sound the same...tone is fizzy. Learned that the hard way.

I have an Zoom G2.1u that I bought after a stay in the hospital years ago, I got out of the hospital and just bought it and never used it at all really. You have inspired me to get that pedal out of storage and see what it can do, maybe I should make a video. Do you know the pedal I am talking about? Anyhoo cheers.

I really liked the line 6 cab at 11:09, the champ 1 x 8. I'd reckon that would sound sick for that 80's rock tone double tracked in a mix.

Nice review dude, where are your headphones conected to? And could you tell me what is the signal chain in this vídeo? Everytime when conected my POD with the Radar Makes a lot a Noise when using headphones conected to the Radar, thanks for your videos.

I have the 1/4” going out of the Radar to a Roland Go:Mixer interface to my phone. I have the headphones plugged into the interface to monitor.

I haven’t played the sonic, but just looking at the feature difference, I think the mooer is worth the extra money. The power amp sim really does take it to another level, plus you can adjust mics, mic positions, and the EQ on the fly.

So you're saying that the pod doesn't use impulse response to achieve cab simulation? Maybe that's why I'm not noticing much difference in the sound on my pod. But if I add the Moore Radar it makes the difference. Then what is the technology that's failing to achieve it with the red bean if not IR?

IRs are basically just EQ, and that'll be what the POD is using, but a lower resolution version. The POD's ones are probably a guess as opposed to a capture, but it'll be the same idea.

This was helpful. Would you happen to know which cab sim and mic config in Mooer radar would be good with the Roland JC 120 amp model in Pod 2.0?

Hmm, I would think the Twin models might be the closest. But the Radar allows for 3rd party IRs, so you could probably find one of a JC120 to load into the Radar. Or just trial and error to see which one you like best.

@@Chucksguitargeekery Hi! Your advice was really helpful. I have been working with the twinverb silverface cab sim with my Roland JC 120 in Pod, and it works very well. Also looking for JC 120 ir cabs. Anyways, thanks so much!!! An issue I found also that when I am adding the power amp in Radar, creates extra noise although in my signal chain my guitar output goes into Noise supressor then a send from the NS to the Pod 2.0 then the output from the pod 2.0 to the NS again then output goes to other pedals and lastly radar. What I am not geeting is without the power amp in mooer there is no noise, but the moment I add the power amp there is a lot of noise in the back!!!
