This video tutorial shows how to use UreCoat® coat coat tool handles. The coated handles are easier to hold and safer to handle.
More Information at www.smooth-on.c...
UreCoat® is a two component urethane (A+B) that can be mixed and brushed onto a variety of surfaces to provide a flexible, tough and impact resistant coating. UreCoat® will bond to many surfaces and can be used as a flexible coating for expanded polystyrene (EPS foam), fabric, some metals and plastics, wood, rope (make vines for zoo exhibits) and more. Cured rubber is tough and UV resistant.

is the high surface area tinfoil there to dissipate heat and slow the cure for workability? Otherwise why not leave it in the pot if painting it on anyway? Available or equivalent in NZ?

Hello, the tin foil is used as a tray to hold the mixed material. We don’t want to keep it in the cup because that is a large mass and the material will cure faster in a large mass versus pouring it into the tin foil tray and reducing the mass. That gives us a longer working time in a the thinner mass. Here is a link to our distributors in Australia and New Zealand. www.smooth-on.com/distributor-regions/australia-new-zealand/

Is this product suitable to use on tools used for automotive repair, where they may be exposed to several chemicals like oil, transmission fluid, brake fluid, brake cleaner, etc? You can buy some tools with pre-molded rubberized handles which stand up reasonably to most of these chemicals. Can this product or one of your other products be applied to a tool and resist those sorts of chemicals reasonably well?
@smoothon

Yes, this material is solvent resistant.

So, basically a two part less effective version of the original 1 part plasti dip that was used to do the same thing, except that you cannot dip it as you can with plasti dip; or am I missing something?
@Anthromod

How much could this be thinned? I'm interested in using it as a sealant/line filler for a flexible 3d printed part, but it looks pretty thick. I'm looking to ensure the parts are airtight, without adding significant material.
@smoothon
@smoothon 3 года назад
Our XTC-3D would be a better choice for our application, as it is designed as a line filling material.

@@smoothon What I've read suggests that would be too rigid. The TPU's will likely be in the range of 75-95A hardness and experience significant deformation.

Understood. If you were going to thin UreCoat, you can do so with mineral spirits. The recommended ratio is 100 Parts A + 10 Parts B + 25 or more Parts of mineral spirits depending on the application.

I live in a humid environment. Do you think there is a potential for rusting (moisture forming between the plastic coating and tool surface?
@stinkycheese804
@stinkycheese804 7 лет назад
No, as long as the coating is intact it will seal out moisture. However if it is work abrasion damaged or applied to a dirty (contaminated) surface, it may not adhere well and allow leaks.

Just started the video but damn, would it not be easier to just remove the adjustable portion of the (adjustable pipe wrench) ????? And perhaps just dip the tool a few times, painting it on seems like a total waste of time
@jennhill8708
@jennhill8708 5 лет назад
Agreed!
@smoothon
@smoothon 5 лет назад
Dipping into a 2-part system would result in a large amount of wasted material as the remaining material would cure in the dipping container. Thank you for watching!

Could you dip an item in the cup? Like if I had a small tool I wanted to make a handle for
@smoothon
@smoothon 8 лет назад
You would end up with a lot of wasted cured material still in the cup.
@Ruthless9o7
@Ruthless9o7 5 лет назад
So yes, just like he had tons of wasted material after that super thin coat he painted on. This is basically plasti dip that you mix 2 parts and then dip or paint.
@paulthompson1654

hi Is the coating similar to grip enhancing rubber or smooth plastic coating ???
@smoothon
@smoothon 2 года назад
It is, it has a 'grippy' surface.
@paulthompson1654
@paulthompson1654 2 года назад
hi Do you make a dip or coating that gives a smooth slippery surface??
@smoothon
@smoothon 2 года назад
Because our materials are 2-component materials, there would be a lot of waste involved in a dipping application.

Can this be used on the jaws of pliers to create a non scratch surface for gripping metal sheet and wire (silver, copper brass) in jewelry making- it MUST have a perflectly smooth finish on the gripping surface..... can it be cleaned off and reapplied when the surface does become marred over time?
@smoothon
@smoothon 7 лет назад
Sheri, it may be able to work, but cannot be cleaned off. I would recommend testing on an older pair of pliers for suitability.
