In this sewalong tutorial, I show the step-by-step construction of a Bikepacking Stem Bag. Also commonly called a Feed Bag, pairing these up on your handlebars makes for easy access to snacks, electronics, and sunscreen for those long tours or gravel rides. This popular pattern is free on my website and a great project to use up small scraps and is easily customized to match the colors of your retro ride.

Glad to hear it! Next one will be half that time and by your third, the circular bottom won’t be so tough. Just takes practice.

Aaaand time! I've made one, yay! My first ever sewing project! I used neoprene and lined it with silnylon. I didn't know what "laminated" means when ordering materials, so I learned that I want it to be laminated on both sides, the hard way... I used one side pure neoprene, one side laminated with jersey/nylon. But me and my mom (thanks, mom!) managed to handle it anyways. With a bit of hand sewing because two layers of neoprene was too much for our machine. It also couldn't transport the non-laminated pure rubber side. Learned a lot! Thanks for the pattern, materials list and tutorial, Mister LearnMYOG!

Made my first bag from your tutorial. Great job with clear directions. Will get better at putting in the bottom. Did fairly well for the first one, but not perfect. Used recycled tent material for the collar and liner, and a screen for the side pocket. We shall see how long that lasts. Will make more! Thanks for the video!! I'd send pics, but can't figure out where to upload on your website??

This is awesome, I think I'm going to try to make a few for some close friends. Any tips to share on recycling materials? I have some older polyester/vinyl bags & fabric that could be repurposed, obviously they won't be as waterproof or awesome as the X-pac. TIA

Congrats on almost hitting 1k subs! I enjoyed this, nice job on the video - thanks for sharing! I'm nearly done with a video on a stem bag myself and interestingly, although the end result is arguably very similar, our construction methods could not be more different!

Questions here, Im looking both on your website and on the PDF and trying to match up the materials. The amounts needed and the types of materials. On the PDF what type of material do you use for " Light weight cord channel fabric, 40 x 12 cm" Just trying to make a shopping list and want to get it all straight. THANKS FOR the Video and all the great info on your wedsite :)

Hey, really anything lightweight that cinches easily will work. Ripstop nylon, silnylon, similar polyester, taffeta nylon, hex70, etc are all viable options. I used a cheap Nylon oxford cloth that is pu coated 200d and about as stiff as I’d recommend for a cinch collar.

what do you use for the stretch binding and why isn't it included in the materials listed?
@LearnMYOG
@LearnMYOG Год назад
FOE. Use whatever binding you want or hem the pocket. Its up to you how you finish your raw seams.
@hypnolobster
@hypnolobster 3 месяца назад
Thought about construction, is there a reason you couldn't build the outside, stitch the collar on, tuck the collar around the outside of the body, insert the finished liner, stitch it on and then bind that inside seam with grosgrain? I guess it might be a little bit bulky inside, but that would work right? I'm thinking about making one without a collar as well and that seemed like the most obvious way to construct it.
@LearnMYOG
@LearnMYOG 3 месяца назад
Yes it could. Most people put the seam on the outside of the bag not inside. So the collar can easily fold into the bag.

Hey I want to start a sewing project with some X-Pac very similar to this one, and you mentioned near the end that you shouldn't topstitch X-Pac. What is the reason behind this?
@LearnMYOG
@LearnMYOG Год назад
Bc it adds more holes for water to enter

what is the utility of the liner? I'm new to this
@BensMis-adventures
@BensMis-adventures Год назад
Makes the bag cleaner on the inside, without the liner you have seams visible. You can bind them but they are still visible. With the liner, especially assembled in this manner, the whole bag has a much more finished appearance.

I have a sewing machine for making clothes, can it be used to sew bags?
@LearnMYOG
@LearnMYOG 2 месяца назад
sure just don't push the limits. bent or broken needles or motor strain are signs you're trying to sew materials too heavy for the machine.
