To all the haters posting negative comments, firstly this guy had never made a concrete counter in situ before and was good enough to show every stage warts n all so we could learn from his mistakes. Someone with a bigger ego would have never posted this video because we all know the "experts" will being telling us how it should be done. Maybe post a comment with a link to the video of the perfect job you did so we can all learn, but we all know 99% of people posting negative/what you should have done comments are pathetic individuals who use this channel to try feel better about themselves, let's see if you could carry out all types of construction to his standard. Check out all the videos home renovation have posted and you will realise this guy is a top multi skilled tradesman with an impressive attention to detail.

If you pull the filter off your sander, you can connect your vacuum to that port and you're working virtually dust-free. I do it that way with my Bosch sander and dust extractor. Leaves the house spotless! Lastly, great vids, I just found you and have been binging all your stuff. You are so easy to watch and a wealth of knowledge.

I have been watching all of your videos back to back. I just bought a house, and plan on finishing the garage + a lot of other projects. I feel like im sitting through the entire project with you. the banter chit chat is amazing. I have worked in design and engineering for 20 years, and watching your videos i get it. you take a lot of the mystifying parts out of the work, and explain the over complicated approaches. I enjoy seeing the products I would never look for randomly. I have quite a lot of work ahead of me, but you've shown its a one man weekend job for a lot of these things. A DIY that will save my family a boat load. Thanks, and keep it up!

Here's a guy taking the time to show us how projects can be attempted without a background in the building trade. This one highlighted why construction projects can easily go past a deadline but more importantly - don't start crying about how this or that didn't go as it should have, but roll up your sleeves and get in there and finish it out like a champ. This z form system can turn out to be an easier and nicer looking project than building a counter outside and lugging it in - once you have the process down. This was a first attempt and it was excellently filmed and not edited to look prefect, teaching is how to get the same or hopefully better results for ourselves. Thank you for making this video!

You can use the other method with melamine moulds, do your countertops outsides then have a friend to help you carry em inside once they all done and clean. Thats what im gona do.

Very informative. I had a turquoise cement kitchen island and counters done after searching for someone who would do it in northern Arizona. He had me check samples several times at his shop/adding miracle gro - yes; and acid to get the swirls of copper imitating real turquoise. Its very cheerful in my mountain cabin, rather than typical black, white or gray. I did not know about the Spectrum bee's wax every six months. Its just been one year; but will go out and buy that to protect it. Thank you!

I did a counter about 2-3 yrs ago and they had a mesh net with these little clips that keep it midway in the thickness of the tops. I been a carpenter for 25yrs and had my fair share of concrete work and I tell you honestly if it was a customer and not a buddies that talked me into helping him. I would have been buying them new tops! One and done for me and I usually welcome a challenge lol

I've been doing a variety of construction projects for a long time now. I'm very good at what I do. But I will say this, we don't get good at what we do by doing things right the first time. We get good by learning how to fix all the mistakes we make trying to make it look good. It's one thing to have everything in a project go smoothly and come out perfect, but it's a whole different beast when something goes wrong but we still have to make it right. So I can relate to this video. This is more realistic of what the outcome usually is. And why people like myself make money doing it.

I did the flip method by forming using shelf board and added lots of colourful granite stones. I did it 5 times for different pieces and messed up the first attempt completely. I then ground down the surface by maybe an 1/8 and polished thcrapnout of it. Definitely things I did wrong and wish I had watched this first, but it was fun and ended up with a great result.

I think you will like the laminate or tile option better. large format tile counters are back and looking better than ever. Cheers!

@@HomeRenoVisionDIY my island is tile now and I really hate it, I plan on enlarging it and adding an eating bar - laminate is looking super doable. I have 4x6 white subway tiles for the backsplash, looking at ikea navy/black for base/door. 21 feet linear wall to work with (12 one side, corner, 9 other side), going to almost double the island from 3x4 to 4x8. Keeping costs down is a must, lol 🍻

I just did my counters in concrete after watching this segment. I used the Quickcrete product. seems like it's being discontinued. none in-store at lowes but at HD. Now in the process of cupping and sanding. It's as easy as it looks.

I’ve been looking for a video showing how to cut out the concrete in front of the sink so install an apron or farm style sink. Mainly how to cur the concrete and hopefully avoid cracking or breaking where you don’t want it to. Idea for a future video. Thanks!

turned out great. jigsaw or sawzall without a blade makes for a decent vibe aswell. Definitely a lot of work!

Personally speaking, it’s easy to make fun of people, but I don’t like seeing anyone fail at anything! The guy isn’t afraid to show his goofs and thats a quality I admire. God knows I’ve royally screwed up my share of first efforts.

I am excited to see that I can do the concrete countertops in place (I do not trust the moving process.. lol)- but can we skip the mess of sanding but adding a layer of epoxy to protect it?

This video inspired me to do my whole bar in concrete....the only thing different I did was use a foam insert for the sink flush with the z forms
