Make your own DIY metal detector - turn transistors and other electronic parts into a metal detector 

I made a beat frequency metal detector from a kit from radio shack. It was a great metal detector. It had to be tuned all the time but i got pretty good at it. I could almost tell u what and how big stuff was.

I'm good at soldering things I've done my own micro sized FM transmitters and build a AM radio and a few other things like that should be able to easily do this

I kind of imagine using a small hand held O-scope as the interface and it being an visual alert. Requiring reading the scope to see changes In the sent frequency and received frequency. Possibly moving to an audible alert after it is perfected! I have learned a lot about electronics in the last 5-6 years, studying on my own, watching videos. I wish I had gotten into electronics years ago when I was younger! I was tearing apart things to see how they worked before I started school! I guess I had a damper put on my creativity due to me getting in trouble for taking stuff apart. I always seen myself as being a possible inventor in the future, or a repair guy/tinkerer when I grew up. Ended up being non of them, an electrician,but I have worked in nearly all the trades. From carpenter, brick and stone mason. Electrical, plumbing, moving mobile homes, and prefab homes. And always been into mechanics. Worked on cars all my life, not professionally. Mostly my own stuff however I have done some repairs for other people when called on. Mostly things like breaks and wheel bearings clutches, gear shifter cables. I do wish I had gotten into electrical engineering 25-30 years ago, I got a bad taste of schooling as a young kid. I was held backs year because I only passed test didn't do homework and class work was hit and miss. I was bored out my mind. I only paid attention to the class work if I be was interested in the subject and passed the test because I could just answer the questions and be done. I'm fairly certain i have one of the things they called lazy. Hyperactive , trouble maker, and s host of other inaccurate names. I think maybe it's asbergers (probably definitely butchered the name ) from the little I studied on it , seems it describes me better than I could myself. Things that didn't exist back in the day. Yet caused kids lives to be destroyed because of the way they were treated because of it. I was always looking ahead in the textbooks. Even looking into the next grades books. The classes had a little pass through in the back. Sometimes I sit back there, and s book I'd left in reach. So if get it and look and read through it! Going off the rails a lot a bit!! Maybe I can get myself an electronics work area worked out! There is a few things I need it for! A GOLD FINDER,/DETECTOR could just be one of them. As long as it doesn't require coding. Me coding Is like getting a chicken to play chess! I can peck at it , seem as if I'm doing something. When it comes down to it NO. No, nothing to see here!! Analog electronics I can handle it! Maybe we a Coil connected to a frequency generator that the Duty cycle as well as frequency can be adjusted along with voltage . Then a pickup coil , tuned to work in the operating band of the sending coil. So the pickup coil will be able to sense the secondary tones from the sending coil! I believe as visual interface is the simplest.it may not work the best in the field, in operation however it should work and fairly well. Discrimination should be simple as far as background iron . The hot rocks and heavy iron oxide deposits could be a different story. This could be another upgrade handled by the addition of micro controller and possibly amplifier and speaker/headphone. The pickup coil could possibly just just be the coil ran through a pre amp and then connected to the input of the amplifier! Using band pass filters to block slot of the sender coils frequency. And possibly operating in ultra high frequencies. Maybe use a ultra high frequency as a Carrier frequency and pulse it at a much lower frequency. And possibly a coil more like a sat. dish. With the dish being the pickup coil. Or maybe flip that. The large sender coil. Using a small pickup coil to be more precision on the pickup of small targets. The ability to pickup a bit of gold a fraction of a grain of rice would be awesome for a home built machine! Especially below 1/4-- 1/3 grain. And really special if it is 12" plus deep in iron rich soil. It would be really awesome if be someone built something similar to Nickola Tesla's coil that required s ground rod. Then sent serious high voltage frequencies into the earth. And a series of coils picking up everything in the soil easily up to 12' deep! If the time is spent to Scan and "Draw the picture" with the Machine. With different power ranges it can pickup deeper objects. Possibly with higher frequency, pickup with greater detail. The ability to take a 5gal. Bucket place 3 items inside of at 3 levels. Then someone use the machine to tell you within 1-2" where and a good estimate of the size. Within 1-2" of the Diameter and thickness. Or at least the mass of the object and it's material make-up. The majority of the metal. So s gold silver alloy 30/70 gold/silver. Would show as a silver target possibly with s close by gold target! At about 11"-13" and weight around 2-4 grams! A machine like that would be able to name it's price! And it be paid!

... and all that seems to be just the beginning of the challenge. The discrimination between gold from other types of metals is a further step which involves a vectorial analysis of the received signal: that means you don't have to consider only the "amplitude" of the received signal but also its "phase". Diamagnetic, paramagnetic and ferromagnetic materials have indeed different effects on the phase shift of the received signal.. In practice a vector demodulator is needed on the receiver to measure in-phase (I) and quadrature (Q) components of the picked up signal respect the transmitted one... So, further difficulties must be considered in design of this hardware and in digital signal processing algorithms definition... Good luck! 🤗

hello brother, I'm looking for an accurate metal detector for the Yamashita treasure that can detect even 5 meters below, I saw legit signs engraved on the rock and pointing the direction but I don't have a detector so I can point to the correct location where it's buried if you can sponsor a detector for me to use, I will give a percentage of whatever I get from treasure.

Whats the best frequency for finding gold? I read 10 Hz is the best for gold. And is it possible to get metal detectors that only detect gold and not other stuff?

This is quickly becoming my favorite channel! I like learning new stuff and this is the place. I'm struggling with wiring the guitars I make, so I think I'll have to step back from making a metal detector for now...

One simple thing most people do not know: Iron is ferromagnetic, copper is paramagnetic, and gold is diamagnetic. One thing that people need to know, is how to read the magnetic flux feedback to be able to build a discriminator circuit. This will require some learning, but at least people now have a little leg up on building and tuning one.

How about generate static electricity to pick up the gold when its dry, cause its positive loaded the gold. Like with an electrostatic motor with a turning positive plate and a standing still negative plate.

If a man had an old White master of coin so said anyway. Had possessed for 0ver 30 years...and had never worked. Looking now @ Seeing that the board itself is compromised is corroded on the back side. Like if a man could or would be able to clean and recoat that back side. Would it be worth even putting it back together or trying to fix or enhance? Heathkit was my dads favorite.

Oh no! Not another project!!! But seriously, I have a Radio Shack model Micronta 4003 metal detector. I modified it to make the head much lighter by cutting out most all the plastic except for a skeleton of what it was. The coils look exactly like the heathkit 1290 coils. I have been experimenting with litz wire and I wonder if I could make a more sensitive coil set using this wire. Also had an idea to design a detector using sine wave circuitry - My Micronta sounds like it uses square waves throughout the detection.

i dont think i'm gonna do as good a job as minelab. ordered a equinox 700. ,i live 3 miles from the beach. the gold monster is bad ass , but not a beach detector. have a good day.

My best gold day in Louisiana was two very heavy 14k men`s rings, a thick but smaller 14k diamond ring, a 14k small earring, and gold rim glasses that I couldn`t find any information on. Found all of this 9in under an hour on a low lake in a swimming area in 1996 with a 250 dollar Radio Shack metal detector with a 7 inch coil, manual ground balance, all metal threshold mode with a simple symbol target ID mainly designed for American coins. Large rings rang up as aluminum screw caps or 5c typically. I found a lot of jewelry and rings with it. If tuned right it was very sensitive to very small targets. I dropped my only very thin wire fishing hook I used to catch very small bait fish in tall hay grass one day on the riverbank and had my detector in the boat and it easily detected the hook although seeing it took time. But it allowed me to continue fishing. So they come in handy. I have a Minelab Vanquish 340 now that I got on a damaged box deal. It`s a great all around machine for what I look for here. Plus I have a Bounty Hunter Pioneer 202 with simple coin based target ID if anyone wants to go with me. It`s perfect for someone with no experience to find some shallow quarters and relics and have fun.

There are tons of designs all over the net. But you should understand theory and how to source, solder, use test equipment in particular osilloscope.

I´m not able to design something like a metaldetektor from scratch, but i do know how to use a soldering iron and a bit about what the different components are and what they do. Metal detectors have always fascinated me and i have built several metal detectors from the very simple BFO designs found in old books and on the internet to more complicated detectors like the pulse induction whites idx pro/vdi clone which can be found on the internet. It was a lot of fun making the pcb, winding the copper coils and find the right components and soldering it all together. I found several coins on the beach with the whites clone and dug up a lot of pull tabs from beer cans... I finally gave in and bought a brand new XP detector.

It is possible i made many times. The critical part is the coil

I thought I clicked on this video to learn more about metal detectors and their circuits, but what I really wanted was 25 min of discouragement and only about 10 min of info. I especially liked how you said the same thing over and over and over but still managed to keep your sparse technical info concise.

I probably have every component I would need, before I even watch this, because I have tons and tons of electronic components, some I got through auctions, some buy buying various electronic components, some by literally soaking up old television sets people throw out. And on top of that I have a custom built coil winding machine where I can mount any capstan on I want to on it and it has a counter so I can make an exact number of turns. My dad taught me electronic theory and gave me various radio kits to build as a child, and I have built high power driver systems, so generally, I'm pretty confident that I can do it. And if not, my younger electronics engineer brother can fine tune it.
