@@CertainExposures ATG & Yoshihisa Maitani are geniuses in photography. M-1 was made by Maitani. The son improved with TTL into 4/3, m4/3 & mirrorless. ATG suggests placing IR filter or film on *sensor *after removing the blocking filter.
Good tip, thank you. I am wondering, however, if the cost of the film plus the cost of the processing may add to more than the cost of a "reasonable" infrared filter that you can buy for about USD$40. Thanks.
Some infrared filters are now very cheap indeed. I would say that the advantage is that it gives you a filter that you can cut as you want, as glass is more difficult to work with. But for the money, that is a good observation.
Very interesting and valuable. But second part is left unanswered. Once I make IR filter from slide film, then what? How to use it? Should I put the filter behind the lens or in front of lens? And How to do it?
@@PhotoGlobeTrotterGo You are correct. Then finding a place to get it developed. So much for playing around or shoot Infrared. Not going to pay over $70 for 4X5.
@@PhotoGlobeTrotterGo They are not going to be cheap if I need 10+. Then I still have to cut to fit. So you know where I can find & buy to cut to 24X36? Also, know where I can buy UV bandpass filter, no UV blocking filter? This ultraviolet bandpass filter costs much more than IR filter. I just don't know where I can buy tools to cut & file glass down without hurting myself with flying glasses. Can you assist?
Inside a digital camera, no, it's not glass, not thick enough, you probably would have autofocus issues. Lozeau, not sure, Gosselin no. Photo Service has it. Cheers ! :-)
How would I attach the filter(s) in front of any lens? Do I buy or build a filter attachment frame then slide the filter(s) into a space that totally covers the size of the lens? Are there any options or suggestions for using my hand made filter(s) with my point and shoot or iPhone? Thanks for any thoughts.
for a regular camera, you can make a filter holder, but careful, it has to be light tight. For a point and shoot or cellphone, it's easier, just use gaffer's tape, or any light tight tape that doesn't leave glue when removing. Cheers !
Do you know where I can buy something to cut/grind/sand Infrared or Ultraviolet Pass Filter (round or square glass)? I would like to cut and install filter onto the camera's sensor (after removing out the bandpass filter).
No, if the flashlight does not emit IR light, the filter will not make the flashlight suddenly emit IR light. Some remote controls are emitting IR light, but you don't need a filter to use them anyway...
@@bueb8674 I’m not a photographer but do have friends who are. I will be doing this for sure. Just red celephane over the lense of an iPhone is too simple
You can use C41 exposed instead of unexposed E6 too. That way you skip the reversal process, you could open the roll in the shop and then ask for it to be developed. Shouldn't be a problem with 120.
Thanks for the video. I need a 950nm infrared pass filter for a lens with a 77mm filter thread. I will try using 4x5 inch color slide film to make my own infrared filter.
Hi ! :-) You can use and reuse the filter, but this is not for taking dark pictures, it's for IR, which is a different spectrum of light. I am using gaffers tape to keep it in place on the lens, then I can store it somewhere else when not using. I also use it on the camera of my cell phone, and keep it inside the case when not using so I have it whenever I want it :-) Cheers !
@@PhotoGlobeTrotterGo tank you very much . What i means by dark pictures . Its a pictures wich are taken by infrared filter and some parametres in camera and after that enhacing them in photoshop . My second question is .can i use to layer of this filter to get 920 nm filter . Can this work . ? Thank you again for this interessting video
@@rasheedmaghrani1610 Yes exactly, by using 2 layers, it cuts around 900-950nm, which gives much darker skies. Not sure I understand you question about darkness. You can do dark or bright images with any camera or film or filter, with or without photoshop... Not sure what you mean...
@@PhotoGlobeTrotterGo am sorry if my english didnt help me to explain very well . What i want exactly is to take a pictures with infrared filter to catch the aura of metals . This aura can't appear in picture taken by this filter .we need photoshop or any logiciel to made the aura clear . Cause the picture wich is taken by infrared filter must be dark .and to get this dark picture we must use some parameters in camera . Hope you understand me . And you helped me to get this infrared filter wich i was thinking about it before .
so expensive options for IR filter there is only one pros in my opinion if you have this sheet of unexposed slide you can put this inside camera like in your video not on the lens so this is much easier to shoot because you can always see hat you shoot, of course you must remember that for example rollei Infrared 400 is around 25ASA with IR720nm filter like i use in normal way
Can u suggest any glass filter or rigid flat IR filters ? Flexible filims are excellent but i like to have something straight in front of my camera sensor. did u find any such filters in aliexpress ? I think the correct term is IR bandpass filter.
